Visiting My Village

Last month, I and my family went to Banyumas which was located in Central Java, Indonesia. We drove a car. I enjoyed the journey all day long although it took 2 days to get there. We were fun, my brother made some jokes all day. My father told us some stories on the way. My mother slept in the back seat.

My first day in my village, I visited my siblings and friends. We are welcomed with happiness. When I saw my parents, they cried because they looked so happy to meet up their families. The next day, I, my brother, my cousin and my nephew went to a popular place in Purwokerto. It was called “Baturaden”. That was a favorite spot in Purwokerto. We enjoyed local specialty food as a culinary. I was satisfied and so were they. Next, I took a photo with traditional music musicians.

The day after tomorrow, my cousin had a ceremony to say thanks to God for blessing their son. It was called “Nazar”. When the parents had a promise for something and it was realized. They had to make a traditional ceremony. I watched that traditional ceremony and took their photograph.

For the last show, we were entertained by “Ebeg”. It was traditional art. The player danced through traditional music and they were handled by the spirit. It was scary, but it was fun and entertaining.

Time run so fast because the next day was our last day in the village. So I took the last photo to bring it home. They were my family and still family until the last breath in this world.

Finally, we had to go home and brought a love experience from family. Yaps… that was the hardest part.

Recount text adalah teks yang menceritakan kembali peristiwa atau pengalaman di masa lalu selain itu juga menceritakan tentang suatu cerita, tindakan, atau aktivitas. Tujuannya adalah untuk menghibur atau menginformasikan pembaca dan disusun rapih dan menarik bagi pembaca.

Ciri-ciri umum dari recount teks adalah menggunakan bentuk past tense, menggunakan sudut pandang pertama (penulis), menggunakan kata penghubung seperti when, then, after, before, first, at the same time, as soon as she left, late on Friday, On Saturday. Struktur umum paragraf recount teks adalah Orientation (latar belakang cerita), Events (kejadian peristiwa), Reorientation (pendapat pribadi penulis diakhir mengenai peristiwa).

At that time I couldn’t smell the scent, and had a bad cold and a high fever. I was quarantined. It was a really hard time because I had to be separated from my family for 3 months. While in quarantine I really miss my family. I couldn’t stop crying that time. My mother told me to stop being sad if I wanted to get well soon, because mental health affects healing.

Misalnya seperti siapa yang ada dalam peristiwa tersebut, di mana, serta kapan peristiwa tersebut terjadi.

Events merupakan bagian yang menceritakan urutan peristiwa yang terjadi.

Bagian ini menceritakan peristiwa secara kronologis yang ditandai dengan adanya penggunaan kata keterangan waktu.

3. Reorientation

Reorientation adalah bagian yang mengulang pengenalan yang ada di bagian orientation, namun lebih bertujuan untuk merangkum semua peristiwa yang sudah diceritakan.

Bagian ini juga bisa berisi kesan atau opini dari penulis terhadap peristiwa yang ia ceritakan.

Misalnya, ada pertanyaan tentang “ Who ” atau “ Siapa ”.

Maka jawabannya akan berkaitan dengan pelaku atau nama seseorang yang ada di dalam teks.

Jika pertanyaannya tentang “ When ”, maka jawabannya akan identik dengan waktu, seperti tanggal, jam, tahun, dsbg.

5. Soal tentang Referensi Sebuah Kata

Soal jenis ini biasanya ditandai dengan kata “refers to”.

Tipe soal ini memang agak sulit karena kamu harus mengetahui apa maksud dari kata yang ditanyakan.

Tak jarang, soal seperti ini juga harus memahami makna tersirat dari sebuah kata.

Model pertanyaan yang sering diajukan adalah:

  • The word “example” refers to …

What is Recount Text

Recount text is  a text which informs or retells events or experiences in the past that happened to the speaker or the writer. The purpose of Recount text is to inform or to entertain the listener or the readers.         

Teks  recount  merupakan teks yang menceritakan kembali suatu peristiwa/kegiatan yang telah terjadi/berlangsung pada masa lalu. Jadi, teks  recount  merupakan cerita pengalaman/peristiwa pada masa lalu.

Generic Structure of Recount Text/Struktur teks  recount

1.       Orientation  (orientasi): The part gives the listener or reader information about the time, the place, and those involved.

berisi pendahuluan tentang pengalaman/peristiwa yang terjadi, tokoh yang terlibat, tempat, serta waktu pengalaman/peristiwa itu terjadi/berlangsung.

2.       Series of Events : The part recounted as they happened. 

berisi rangkaian pengalaman/peristiwa yang ada dalam cerita tersebut. Bagian ini bisa terdiri atas beberapa peristiwa ( events )

3.       Re-orientation / Conclusion : The part gives the speaker’s or the writer’s own view of the events and the feeling s that aroused of the time.

Language Features of Recount Text / Ciri-ciri kebahasaan  recount  teks

1.       Focusing on specific participants (Berfokus pada peserta khusus)

2.       Using simple past tense (Menggunakan  past tense )

3.       Sometimes supporting with past continuous tense and past perfect tense (Terkadang disuport dengan past continuous dan past perfect tense.)

4.       Using adverb of times and place (menggunakan kata keterangan waktu dan tempat e.g. the first day, last month, last holiday, before school started, etc)

I just returned from my holiday in my uncle's house in Malang. During the time, I visited many interesting places, such as Jatim Park 1 and 2, Museum Angkut, Batu Night Spectacular and Mount Bromo. However, the most memorable is my trip to Mount Bromo. It 'is the most exotic place I've ever seen. 

At that time I went with my uncle's family. We went there by car in the middle of night and arrived at around 3:30 a.m. There were already many people there. Later on we moved to Penanjakan Peak to see the sunrise. Later on we witnessed such a magnificent sunrise. Luckily, the weather was so fine that we all could see that shinning golden ball very clearly. Then, we walked up to the top of Mount Bromo. It was really hard because we had to walk through thick sand desert while it was rather cold. Arriving at the top, it was so amazing! Trust me, you should go there one day. What a wonderful place! 

Overall my last holiday is the best moment of my life. I wish I have another chance to explore Malang City.

After we bought several hot chips at the take-away store nearby, we rode our bicycles down the beach for a while, on the hard, damp part of the sand. We had the wind behind us. Unwittingly, we were many miles down the beach. 

Before we made the long trip back we decided to paddle our feet in the water for a while, and then sit down for a rest. While we were sitting on the beach, just chatting, we realised that all the way back we would be riding into the strong wind. 

When we finally arrived home, we were both totally exhausted!

When I was in 8th grade of junior high school, I participated in a painting contest which took place at the education and culture office in my town. I was competing with other 49 students. The theme of the painting was "Preserving cultural heritages in the global age". Everyone was provided with canvas but no oil paint, brush or palette. We also had only been given 180 minutes to finish our work. 

By the time the contest started, everyone immediately drew sketches on their canvas. I didn't do the same since I was still thinking of what to draw. Then, I finally had an idea and joined the others by drawing a sketch. I decided to paint a street vendor selling traditional crafts while taking a selfie with customers. I think that would be a good representation of the contest theme. 

In the middle of my painting, I realised that I didn't bring my orange paint, to paint a realistic brick colour as the background on my painting. For that, I must mix violet and orange colours. I already made the violet colour by mixing red and blue I panicked. Then, I tried to ask other contestants if they had some spares. One contestant gave me one, but it was almost empty. It wouldn't be enough for my brick background. Then, I remembered that I could get orange from mixing red and yellow. I was so surprised that I could forget such a basic combination. 

The time limit is up. I somehow managed to finish my paint at the last minutes. Then, the judge began to observe every work. When they came to my place, one of the judges asked me what colour I used for my background. I said that I mixed violet and orange to get the brick colour and other combinations for other parts of the background. Then, they left to check other paintings. 

Finally, the judges announced the winners of the competition. I was surprised that my painting became the second place. The judges commended me for my technical skill with colour combinations.

My favorite vacation that I can remember was when I visited Bali, Indonesia. I went there when I was 7 years old. It is a beautiful island in Indonesia. It was a long flight to get there from New York, but once we were there, we relaxed on the pure white sands of the beach and enjoyed the rest of our vacation. 

We stayed in a beautiful hotel at the Nusa Dua beach away from the town. The weather was warm and sunny everyday. The hotel had seven lagoons and swimming pools with beautiful blue colored water. They also had a huge waterfall above the swimming pool so I could swim under it. I had a lot of fun splashing water around.

We got a complimentary bowl of fruit in our room everyday. It included an Asian fruit called dragon fruit, which is actually a cactus. Dragon fruit tastes wonderful! It is sweet and crunchy, and tastes like kiwi and pear mixed together. They also served us pears, apples, and plums along with the dragon fruit. Since our guest room was on the first floor, I could walk out to the balcony and dive straight into the lagoon. It was a lot of fun because I could swim while my parents could watch me from the room.

I remember visiting the city of Denpasar, which was half an hour away from our hotel. It was a very beautiful city with lots of green trees and plants. There were a lot of stores selling colorful wooden artwork, which was made by local artists. Balinese people love art so they make different types of art such as paintings, sculptures, and woodcarving. The stores were small shops unlike ot of big supermarkets in America. The people were very friendly, helpful, and courteous. They spoke the local languages, Balinese and Indonesian, which I could not understand, but they also spoke broken English. Bali has one main religion, Balinese Hinduism, which 93.8% of the people follow and other minor religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam. Ball also has man dances such as the Pendet. which is a religious dance; Legong, which is a dance. for entertainment; Baris, which is a war dance; and Topeng, which is a mask dance.

My vacation to Bali was the best vacation for me because it was unique. I loved the hotel we stayed in and the delicious fruits I ate as well. I hope every one can visit Ball at least once and enjoy it as much as I did!

Sekarang, kita akan bahas tentang teks bahasa Inggris yang membicarakan tentang pengalaman (experience) dan riwayat hidup (biography). Kita sudah pasti pasti punya pengalaman: pengalaman kita ketika liburan sekolah atau pengalaman lainnya yang menyenangkan ataupun yang tidak mengesankan dan pengalaman tersebut adalah peristiwa yang sudah terjadi dan pastinya dituliskan secara naratif (bentuk narasi). Jadi recount text  (sama halnya dengan narrative dan spoof text ) adalah teks yang dituangkan secara naratif (berbentuk cerita).

Recount adalah teks yang menceritakan pengalaman seseorang atau rangkaian kejadian/peristiwa di masa lampau yang dituangkan dalam bentuk cerita. Recount juga menjelaskan tentang biografi (riwayat hidup seseorang). Namun, yang membedakan recount dari narrative text adalah recount text tidak memiliki complication (krisis atau masalah) dan juga resolution (penyelesaian masalah).

Tujuan (purpose) dari recount text adalah menceritakan kejadian/peristiwa di masa lampau (to retell past experience)

Generic Structure

Untuk membedakan dari teks bahasa Inggris yang lain, recount text memiliki struktur atau kerangka sebagai berikut:

  • Orientation (pengenalan): Bagian ini menjelaskan tentang latar (setting) waktu, tempat, dan orang-orang yang terlibat dalam cerita pada teks tersebut. Biasanya teks recount melibatkan kata ganti I (saya) atau we/our (kita) sebagai sudut pandang (point of view) orang pertama.
  • Events (peristiwa): Bagian events menjelaskan tentang kejadian-kejadian yang berlangsung secara kronologis di masa lampau dan dituangkan secara naratif.
  • Reorientation (penutup cerita) : Bagian ini bersifat opsional. Menjelaskan tentang akhir dari kejadian-kejadian dalam teks

We spent a whole day to play playstation. On the next day, we decided to do jogging at Lapangan Pegok. After spending time there, we went home. Saat itu sangat gelap tetapi aku tidak merasa khawatir karena sepupuku adalah pendaki profesional. Kami mendaki perlahan dan menikmati momen tersebut. Setelah mendaki selama kurang lebih 4 jam, kami sampai di puncak gunung.

Masih banyak pendaki lain yang mencapai puncak itu lebih cepat dari kami. Kami menunggu matahari terbit sambil memasak makanan dan minum kopi untuk menghangatkan diri. Setelah melihat matahari terbit, kami bersiap-siap karena ingin menginap di sana selama tiga hari. Kami sangat menikmati momen tersebut dan melakukan banyak aktivitas menarik di sana. Finally, we managed to finish the assignment at 2 p.m. and sent it right away to Mr. Wirya. That was my experience of studying at home during this Coronavirus outbreak. The activities were fun because my friend and I got to experience about new way of learning. However, I really missed my friends and I hoped this outbreak ended soon.

Metode belajar dari rumah pertama kali dilaksanakan pada tanggal 16 Maret. Kelas online belum siap pada saat itu. Pak Rudi, wali kelasku, menginstruksikan ketua kelas untuk membuat grup WhatsApp untuk kelas kami. Ketika ketua kelasku sudah membuat grup, dia menambahkan semua kontak anggota kelas kami dan juga Pak Rudi ke dalam grup.

Setelah itu Pak Rudi bercerita bahwa kami mendapat tugas dari guru Biologi kami yang bernama Pak Wirya untuk membuat rangkuman tentang virus dan kami harus mengirimkannya ke email beliau setelah kami selesai mengerjakannya. Rasanya lebih menantang lagi jika mengerjakan tugas sendirian di rumah.

Akhirnya kami berhasil menyelesaikan tugas pada jam 2 siang dan langsung mengirimkannya pada pak Wirya. Itulah pengalamanku belajar di rumah selama wabah virus Corona ini. Kegiatannya menyenangkan karena aku dan temanku mendapat pengalaman tentang cara belajar yang baru. Namun, aku sangat merindukan teman-temanku dan aku berharap wabah ini segera berakhir.

Setelah bertanya kepada penjual buah, aku mengetahui bahwa pencuri tersebut mencoba mencuri dompet seseorang tetapi seseorang melihatnya dan berteriak dengan keras. Setelah itu, banyak orang yang tiba-tiba mengasarinya dengan keras. Itu adalah momen menakutkan yang pernah ku alami dan aku berharap hal itu tidak akan terjadi lagi di masa depan.
