With the rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, the classic centralized cloud computing paradigm faces several challenges such as high latency, low capacity and network failure. To address these challenges, fog computing brings the cloud closer to IoT devices. The fog provides IoT data processing and storage locally at IoT devices instead of sending them to the cloud. In contrast to the cloud, the fog provides services with faster response and greater quality. Therefore, fog computing may be considered the best choice to enable the IoT to provide efficient and secure services for many IoT users. This paper presents the state-of-the-art of fog computing and its integration with the IoT by highlighting the benefits and implementation challenges. This review will also focus on the architecture of the fog and emerging IoT applications that will be improved by using the fog model. Finally, open issues and future research directions regarding fog computing and the IoT are discussed.

—Fog computing is a distributed computing infrastructure in whichsome application services are provided at the edge of the network in smart devices(IoT devices) and some applications are handled in cloud. Fog computing operates on network ends instead of working entirely from a centralized cloud. The main objective of Fog computing is to process the data close to the edge devices .The problem that occurs in Fog is confidentiality and security of data. This article describes how the rise of fog computing to improve cloud computing performance and the acceptance of smart devices is slowly but surely changing our future and shaping the computing environment around us. IoT integrated with advances in low cost computing, storage and power ,along with high speed networks and big data, supports distributed computing. However, much like cloud computing, which are under constant security attacks and issues, distributed computing also faces similar challenges and security threats. This can be mitigated to a great extent using fog computing, which extends the limits of Cloud services to the last mile edge near to the nodes and networks, there by increasing the performance and security levels. Fog computing also helps increase the reach and comes across as a viable solution for distributed computing. This article presents a review of the academic literature research work on the Fog Computing. The authors discuss the challenges in Fog environment and propose a new taxonomy.

— This paper investigates the research challenges in Fog Computing. 'Fog computing' also known as edge computing'. The infrastructure which provides services at the edge of the network is fog nodes. IoT works by hosting application in a guest operating system (GOS)running in a hypervisor directly on Connected Grid Router(CGR). There are other similar concepts such as Mobile-Edge Computing (MEC).They overlap with fog computing. The processing delay should not exceed more than tens of milliseconds which may ruin the user experience. Fog servers are capable of providing dynamic customizable optimization based on client devices and conditions of local networks. Fog computing technique can tackle analytics on large data generated by IoT applications. When a new technologies arrive, its name should have proper definition and it should be accepted by the community. Fog has many features which are not present in cloud. Managing billions of varies devices connected to a Network for to implement NFV(Network Function Virtualization)as some network functions are done by software only. In the fog, services and networks returning on top can be deployed on demand in a edge device. Fog computing is a scenario where huge number of heterogeneous ubiquitous and decentralized devices communicates and potentially cooperate among them and processing tasks without the intervention of third parties. These tasks can be for supporting basic network functions or new services and applications that run in a sandboxed environment. This paper would promote a lot of research in the area of application of Fog Computing.

Due to technology problems with cloud computing and it is unable to fulfill real-time applications requirements such as (low latency, performance, and mobility support) and limited storage and computational power with Internet of Things (IoT) devices, Cisco company proposed a new concept call "Fog computing" or "Fog networking" that extend cloud computing to satisfy customer's needs.. However, fog computing faces some security challenges that inherited from cloud computing in addition to new issues that discovered with using fog services. These security issues need to be addressed with practical solutions to provide successful implementation of Fog System. Information technology Researchers and specialist organizations have proposed many solutions to protect systems from malicious activities like inside and outside network attacks. This paper will provide an overview of existing literature on Fog computing to identify common security threats, the impact of risks on the system, what are the current solutions and the effectiveness of solutions. This paper may help to provide a guide for expert concern on designing, developing, and maintaining Fog systems. I. INTRODUCTION Fog Computing is a new technology introduced by Cisco Company in 2014 to extend cloud computing services at the edge of the network. Fog computing aims to reduce latency and improve the efficiency of the network. It facilitates computing, networking and storage services between end-user devices and cloud computing data centres. Due to the fast-growing number of smart devices and applications that connected to cloud computing and consume its services, the new concept called the Internet of Things (IoT) come up to provide more advantages. With the Internet of Things technology, data can be handled efficiently rather than send them to cloud services. In simple words, fog IoT applications will make a smart decision to send data to the best place for processing. If the data is real-time and highly sensitive and need to process as fast as possible, it will send to the nearest fog node (The fog nodes will take different shape such as a router, gateway, switch, and Access Points These fog nodes can collaboratively share storage and computing facilities [1].).But if it can wait for a couple of minutes, it will send to set of fog nodes or cloud for best data analytics.

Fog computing is a prototype that protract Cloud computing and services to the edge of the network. Like Cloud, Fog provides data, compute, storage, and application services to end-users. Fog Computing terminology is given by Cisco that implies extending cloud computing to the edge of a network. Broadly called Edge Computing or preparatory, fog computing reinforces the operation of cloud, storage and networking services between end devices and conveyed processing data centers. Fog computing is a gifted computing aspect that protract cloud computing to the edge of networks. Similar to cloud computing with distinct characteristics, fog computing faces new-fangled security, privacy and trust issues, control information overhead and network control policies resist other than those obtained from cloud computing. One of those hurdle is data trimming. Because redundant communications not only burden the core network but also the data center in the cloud. For this purpose, data can be preprocessed and trimmed before sending to the cloud. This can be done through a Smart Gateway, accompanied with a Smart Network or Fog Computing. We have reviewed these defies and prospective plans briefly in this paper. We have provided a state-of-the-art survey of Fog computing, its challenges and security issues.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a paradigm where everyday objects are equipped with sensing, identifying, communicating and processing capabilities that will allow them to network with other devices and services over the Internet to accomplish some objective. Fog computing is extension of cloud computing paradigm to edge of network, which is a more highly visualized platform which provides computation, storage, and networking services between end IoT devices and back-end cloud servers. Fog like computational and storage buffers, which are located, locally between the IoT nodes and the cloud infrastructure process a significant amount of regional data to reduce huge network latency and overhead at the backend cloud infrastructure. In this paper we are going to propose Fog to be the appropriate platform for critical Internet of Things (IoT) services and applications for Smart cities.

Emerging technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) require latency-aware computation for real-time application processing. In IoT environments, connected things generate a huge amount of data, which are generally referred to as big data. Data generated from IoT devices are generally processed in a cloud infrastructure because of the on-demand services and scalability features of the cloud computing paradigm. However, processing IoT application requests on the cloud exclusively is not an efficient solution for some IoT applications, especially time-sensitive ones. To address this issue, Fog computing, which resides in between cloud and IoT devices, was proposed. In general, in the Fog computing environment, IoT devices are connected to Fog devices. These Fog devices are located in close proximity to users and are responsible for intermediate computation and storage. One of the key challenges in running IoT applications in a Fog computing environment are resource allocation and task scheduling. Fog computing research is still in its infancy, and taxonomy-based investigation into the requirements of Fog infrastructure, platform, and applications mapped to current research is still required. This survey will help the industry and research community synthesize and identify the requirements for Fog computing. This paper starts with an overview of Fog computing in which the definition of Fog computing, research trends, and the technical differences between Fog and cloud are reviewed. Then, we investigate numerous proposed Fog computing architecture and describe the components of these architectures in detail. From this, the role of each component will be defined, which will help in the deployment of Fog computing. Next, a taxonomy of Fog computing is proposed by considering the requirements of the Fog computing paradigm. We also discuss existing research works and gaps in resource allocation and scheduling, fault tolerance, simulation tools, and Fog-based microservices. Finally, by addressing the limitations of current research works, we present some open issues, which will determine the future research direction for the Fog computing paradigm.

To optimize the concept of the cloud, organizations need a way to deliver content to end users through a more geographically distributed platform. The idea of fog computing is to distribute data, compute, storage to move it closer to the end-user to eliminate latency and numerous hops, and support mobile computing and data streaming. Already, we're seeing ―everything-as-a-service‖ models. The user is asking for more data access from any device, any time, from anywhere. This means that the future of the cloud must support the idea of the ―Internet of Things (IoT).‖ That's where Fog Computing comes in.
