Applications are open for the 2024-2025 AHRI/UCL PhD Studentship

This is an exciting opportunity for up to three potential candidates to register for PhD at UCL while undertaking their research project at Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI).

The award is funded by UCL’s   Division of Infection and Immunity   and is open to applicants who permanently reside in South Africa. The AHRI/UCL PhD Studentship award covers tuition fees and living costs for candidates to undertake a PhD at UCL.

The proposed PhD research must be in the field of  medical sciences  and/or  population health . This covers everything from single molecules through to cells and tissues, to whole organisms and animal and human populations for improved human health and wellbeing worldwide.

Students will be expected to spend most of their time in South Africa, conducting their research at AHRI. Students will also spend time at UCL and while there they will be expected to attend seminars, postgraduate club meetings, and other UCL doctoral student events.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

• Be domiciled in South Africa at the time of application
• Have completed, or be about to complete, a Masters degree or equivalent
• Hold a letter of recommendation from a proposed supervisor at UCL*
• Be working with AHRI already or hold an approved letter of support to complete a PhD at AHRI*
• Be willing to stay in London for up to one year during their PhD studies. This time can be split into two periods of six months if required
• Must hold a valid passport at the time of application

Applications to the PhD studentship are competitive. The selection panel will look at academic achievements of the applicants, their research experience, the quality of the supervisory team and strengths of the proposed project.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a formal interview with the selection panel.

Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

• If awarded, applicants must be able to take up the award immediately
• MPhil/PhD students registered at UCL cannot be registered to any other course, undergraduate or postgraduate
• Applicants are required to apply to both AHRI and UCL

The PhD studentships will fund:

• All fees for a three-year doctorate at UCL
• Two round-trip economy air fares to and from SA to UK (per award)
• Support for reasonable London living costs for up to one year
• UCL bench fees
• Support for Durban living costs for two years

PhD students pursue their studies in one of the Operations & Technology, Strategy & Entrepreneurship, Marketing & Analytics, and Organisations & Innovation groups. All four groups offer a unique education and research experience to a small number of highly motivated students, with the intent of preparing them for scholarly careers at the highest level.

PhD studies in Operations and Technology

Across the different research themes , there is a shared interest in management science, operations management and business technologies. Topics of interest include R&D management, innovation and new product development, service systems, supply chain management and healthcare operations. For candidates in this area, a degree in engineering (e.g. industrial, electrical, computer, mechanical etc), economics, mathematics, statistics or operational research is preferred. 

PhD studies in Strategy and Entrepreneurship

S&E faculty research  focuses on understanding what makes firms successful, how they cope with a complex and dynamic environment, and what leads to new business formation and growth. Doctoral training involves close collaboration between the doctoral student and faculty members on shared research interests, coursework at UCL and other institutions, and independent research. Doctoral students also benefit from the S&E group’s collaborative research community, a lively program of research speakers from other institutions, and links with researchers worldwide. Topics of interest include digitization, big data analytics, machine learning, information environment, platform ecosystems, new organisational forms, learning, innovation, competition, interorganisational relationships, corporate strategy, entrepreneurial strategy, entrepreneurship for development, social innovation. 

PhD studies in Marketing and Analytics

Topics of interest in this group include branding, retailing, advertising, pricing, product development, marketing channels, business marketing, marketing strategy and e-commerce. The researchers in this group use diverse quantitative methodologies that include big data analytics, regression analysis, choice models, field experiments and Bayesian econometrics.

PhD studies in Organisations and Innovation

O&I faculty research focuses on understanding individual and team outcomes within organisations. Group members engage with a variety of perspectives and approaches including network research, experiments and ethnographies. There is a shared interest in the topics of creativity, innovation, social networks and diversity. For applicants to the PhD programme, prior training in social science (e.g. social psychology, sociology or economics) is highly relevant.

PhD Structure

• The programme typically consists of five years of full-time study, starting with one year of modules registered as MRes. These modules are typically advanced postgraduate modules to provide rigorous methodological training to prepare students for their PhD research. Along with the School’s modules, students typically take some of these from other UCL departments (e.g., Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology), the London Business School, Bayes Business School, and Imperial College Business School.
• In addition to methods modules, students also undertake a first-year research project under the tutoring and supervision of a faculty member later in the MRes year (Term 3 + Summer period).
• Progression from MRes to PhD is not automatic . Superior performance in taught modules and independent, original research is required for progression from MRes to PhD.
• Our highly selective and small-sized PhD programme ensures that each student receives personal attention and guidance from our faculty members throughout their doctoral study. The close mentorship process forms the foundations of a successful academic career. 
• We expect our PhD graduates to have as their goal an academic career as a faculty member in a top business school or engineering department of a world-class university

Students take a total of 180 credits in the MRes year. This is made up of the MRes Research Project:

• MSIN0135 - MRes Research Project: 8,000-10,000 words . 105 credits.

Students take 75 credits of taught modules, of which the following three are compulsory modules:

• MSIN0131 - Research Presentation and Critical Writing Skills . 15 credits
• MSIN0132 - Seminar in Organisation Theory . 15 credits
• MSIN0240 - Designing Management Research Projects.  15 credits

Finally, students choose elective modules (15 credits each) among those offered by the School of Management, other UCL Departments (e.g., Economics, Psychology), and partner universities in London.

Students can take additional (non-credit) modules at UCL and our partners schools in the remaining years to complement their learning, but there is no requirement to take modules after the MRes year.

The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, and class discussion based on case studies and other activities. Student performance is assessed through simulations, presentations, coursework, group projects, class participation, and examinations. 

Students typically study 3 compulsory modules over Terms 1 and 2. Students will also typically study 2 optional modules which may take place in Terms 1, 2 or 3. Students will also undertake a substantial research project, which would usually be undertaken over Terms 2 and 3. 

Each taught module is delivered over 10 weeks, with 3 contact hours per week comprising lecture content and interactive components. 

In addition, students typically spend approximately 6-8 hours a week for each module on assessment and independent study to further develop the skills and knowledge covered in lectures and seminars. The total number of weekly hours will vary according to the weekly activities being undertaken.

Applying for our mres/phd programme.

Entry requirements and admissions criteria:

We seek to recruit highly motivated, ambitious students with strong educational backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have a first-class Bachelor’s degree from the UK or an overseas qualification of equivalent standard from a leading university. We encourage students from a wide variety of backgrounds (e.g, engineering, economics, business, mathematics/statistics, psychology, sociology, and anthropology, among others) to apply to our programme. Also, notice that a Master’s or graduate level degree is not required for admission, you can apply with only an undergraduate (e.g. bachelors) degree. 

In your personal statement you are expected to suggest one or more faculty members as potential supervisors. On the application form you may see that it states that it is preferred that you contact potential supervisors beforehand – you do not need to do so. In fact, applicants are discouraged from randomly contacting individual faculty members or potential supervisors when applying to our programme. All applications are first evaluated by a joint admissions committee, so contacting potential supervisors separately will not increase your chances.

All MRes/PhD applicants are normally expected to take either a GMAT test or GRE test (UCL’s institution code is 3344, but also make sure you include a scanned copy of your test result on your online application), although the School has no minimum score requirements.  

We also require you to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores if English is not your first language. Our School requires a “Level 1” English qualification which corresponds to:

• IELTS: Overall grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.
• TOEFL: Score of 92, plus 24/30 in the reading and writing subtests and 20/30 in the listening and speaking subtests.

The application window closes 01 February 2024 (17:00 UK time) and a late submission window closes on 05 April 2024 (17:00 UK time). We advise those interested in the programme to apply before 01 February 2024, as those applying in the late submission window will only be considered if there are still places remaining.

• Official Transcripts of Grades / Course marks
• A 2-3 page personal statement or research proposal* that clearly indicates: (i) which research group you are interested in (i.e., Organisations & Innovation, Strategy & Entrepreneurship, Marketing & Analytics or Operations & Technology, (ii) your research interests and preliminary research ideas, (iii) potential faculty member(s) you may want to work with (this is a suggested list, you don’t need to contact potential supervisors beforehand), and (iv) your motivation to do a PhD.
• Your  GRE / GMAT  score report**
• Your IELTS/TOEFL score report, if English is not your first language.

* While submission of a full research proposal is not required, you can send us one if you have already written it up.

** You can submit your application even if you don’t have a GRE/GMAT score —simply indicate when you plan to take the test. Funding/Scholarships

We offer fully funded five year MRes/PhD scholarships in the UCL School of Management to all admitted students. The scholarship is open to all nationalities. It covers all tuition fees, and includes an annual stipend of £25,000, which is tax-free.

Additional costs 

This programme does not have any compulsory additional costs outside of purchasing books or stationery, printing, thesis binding or photocopying.  

Students may have the opportunity to participate in conferences in the UK and internationally. The UCL School of Management provides MRes/PhD students with an annual budget for conferences, which students will use to cover the travel, accommodation, food and other costs whilst at conferences, in line with UCL’s expenses policy.

How much does a Master's cost?

Government loans, scholarships, funding for disabled students, other sources of funding, current master's students.

When calculating the cost of a Master's there are two elements to consider - tuition fees and living costs.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees will vary from programme to programme, and depend on whether your fee classification . 

Below are the full-time tuition fees for the 2023/24 academic year - they do not include fees set by other providers. Part-time or modular fees are normally charged pro-rata. Check the Graduate Prospectus for information on what your fees may be for any particular programme.

Living costs.

The amount spent on living costs may vary greatly from student to student and depend on lifestyle and individual circumstances.  Information on the cost of study can be found on  UCL's cost of study page .

Some governments offer loans for students pursuing postgraduate study. Check with your home government to see what funding they may offer.

Postgraduate Master's Loan from Student Finance

Some students may be eligible for a Postgraduate Master's Loan from Student Finance. Unlike undergraduate Student Finance, this is a single loan that acts as a contribution towards the cost of study. It is unlikely that it will cover the cost of both tuition fees and maintenance. For courses starting in the 2023/24 academic year, you could get up to £12,167.

The loan is paid to you directly to use in any way you choose. This means you will be responsible for arranging payment of your own tuition fees, as the loan will not go directly to UCL like an undergraduate tuition fee loan.

Please note that you must be doing a full standalone Master's of 180 credits to be eligible for the loan. You will not be eligible for the loan if you are studying on a modular/flexible mode of attendance, or are using credits from previous study towards your Master's under UCL's Recognition of Prior Learning scheme .

How your Postgraduate Master's Loan might affect your benefits

If you receive means-tested benefits, 30% of the maximum Postgraduate Master's Loan is treated by the Department for Work and Pensions as being for living costs and hence will be considered income when assessing any benefit award. For benefit purposes, you will be treated as having this amount, regardless of whether you actually take up the loan. 

Interest and Repayment

You’ll be charged interest from the day you get the first payment until your loan is repaid in full or cancelled.

Sharia-compliant loans

The government has been looking in to the possibility of an alternative Sharia-compliant funding system which would be available alongside traditional student loans. However at present this system is not yet in place.

UCL participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (Direct Loans). This is the main U.S. Federal funding available to American students in the UK. 

The processing of loans at schools outside the US is different from the process when applying to a school inside the US. Students applying to Direct Loans for study at UCL should follow the instructions carefully as we will not be able to administer your loan unless you submit that application to the Student Funding Office as outlined in the guidance.

Master's students who have a disability may be able to get extra funding for additional costs they incur to study.

Disabled Students' Allowances

If you're a Home student, you can apply for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) to cover some of the extra costs you have because of a mental health problem, long term illness or any other disability.

You can get the allowances on top of your other student finance. You won’t need to repay DSAs.

Disabled students who are not awarded a Disabled Students’ Allowance may be eligible for a Student Health Association Bursary .

Disabled International Students

UCL recognises that disabled students may have to incur additional costs in order to pursue their studies. If you are an international student who would like to discuss this further please contact Student Support and Wellbeing .

As a student, it is unlikely you will be able to claim benefits unless you have a disability or have children.

Council Tax

Full-time students do not need to pay council tax

Some charitible organisations provide small amounts of money to students with particular backgrounds or studying particular subject areas.

From time to time external organisations contact the UCL Funding team with funding opportunities. We place these on an online Hootboard notice board . Some students choose to apply for personal loans provided by private finance companies. UCL is not affiliated with or able to endorse any private loan providers. Information on these types of private loans can be found here. 

The Turn2Us Grants Search database contains information on over 3,000 charitable funds offering welfare and educational grants, as well as other support and services. 

The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding Online is a portal for alternative sources of funding - especially charities - which can make awards (fees, maintenance, research costs) to any student regardless of subject or nationality. UCL has purchased a licence to the Guide so it’s free for all students and staff to use. If you are a prospective student who has applied to the university  email student funding  to get an access PIN.

Guide to Grants for Individuals in Need

There are a number of sources of financial support for Master's students who are currently enrolled at UCL.

The Financial Assistance Fund

The Financial Assistance Fund is a fund for UCL students who fall into unexpected financial hardship. Please note this is for living costs only, and students who have an outstanding tuition fee debt to UCL are not eligible to apply.

Short term Loans

Limited cash loans of up to £250 are available to students who have experienced a delay in their normal funding being paid.

External grants and funding

Some charities and organisations give financial support to current students studying particular subjects or in particular circumstances.

Reduce costs and increase income

If you are struggling to cover the costs of study, you can look at ways to reduce your costs and increase your income .

As a full-time postgraduate student, you have the opportunity to become a Student Residence Adviser  (SRA) and eliminate your accommodation costs completely by living in UCL halls. SRAs deliver inclusive community events and activities, provide peer-to-peer pastoral support, and ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all student residents.

Applicants must demonstrate a high level of analytical and quantitative skills (such as in mathematics and statistics), evidenced by strong performance in relevant modules taken on previous degree programmes and/or through relevant standardised test performance (such as GRE Quantitative of at least 160). The MRes and PhD in Financial Economics is a joint programme between the UCL Department of Economics and the UCL School of Management.

The MRes programme is the first year of the five-year integrated MRes/PhD programme in Financial Economics. The MRes programme will provide you with training in research methods together with an advanced understanding of financial economics, to enable you to conduct insightful and original PhD level research in financial economics. 

The MRes will firstly provide quantitative training in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and finance. These will be taught in the context of cutting-edge research and relevant applications. Secondly, it will provide you with analytic frameworks and transferable skills that will allow you to identify relevant and promising research topics, present ideas in order to obtain feedback, and provide feedback yourself. 

The subsequent years (for students who progress from the MRes to MPhil) will focus on the skills you will need to run research projects to completion and to present completed research projects to various kinds of specialised audiences. Likewise, teaching skills will also be developed.

PhD Structure

• The MRes programme consists of taught modules (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics. Real Analysis and Probability with Economic Application), a hybrid module (Financial Economics) with taught components and research based components, and a research project in the final part of the year. For the MRes project, you work under supervision to design and carry out a substantial piece of original research. This enables you to gain a deep understanding of the entire research process.
• Superior performance is required for automatic progression from MRes to MPhil. In particular, students should achieve an average mark of not less than 60% in the independent, original research components of the programme, and not less than 50% in the taught element.
• Our highly selective and small-sized PhD programme ensures that each student receives personal attention and guidance from our faculty members throughout their doctoral study. The close mentorship process forms the foundations of a successful academic career. At the same time, you will be part of both the School of Management PhD cohort and the Economics PhD cohort, with which you will share most of the taught modules.
• We expect our PhD graduates to have as their goal an academic career as a faculty member in a top business school or Economics department or in the research group of an international institution or a central bank.

Students take a total of 180 credits in the MRes year. This is made up of the MRes Research Project (MSIN0135) and 75 credits of compulsory taught modules.

In addition, students spend approximately 6-8 hours a week for each module on assessment and independent study to further develop the skills and knowledge covered in lectures and seminars.  

Students will also undertake a substantial research project, which would usually start in Term 2 and be completed over the Summer. The total number of weekly hours will vary according to the weekly activities being undertaken.

Entry requirements and admissions criteria:

Applicants to the MRes+PhD programme must hold a distinction in a master’s degree in Economics or a closely related subject. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of analytical and quantitative skills (such as in mathematics and statistics), evidenced by strong performance in relevant modules taken on previous degree programmes and/or through relevant standardised test performance (such as GRE Quantitative of at least 160). Submitting a GRE test result is encouraged but not compulsory and is only one of the components used to assess the strength of applications. 

We only have a single intake in September. We accept applications throughout the year. Successful candidates who have submitted their MRes application by 31 January 2024 will receive a scholarship (full fee waiver plus a stipend). Successful candidates who have submitted their application after this date may receive a scholarship subject to availability, or will come with their own funding.

In your personal statement you are expected to suggest one or more faculty members as potential supervisors. On the application form you may see that it states that it is preferred that you contact potential supervisors beforehand. However, we strongly discourage applicants from contacting individual faculty members or potential supervisors when applying to our programme. All applications are first evaluated by a joint admissions committee, so contacting potential supervisors separately will not increase your chances.

We also require you to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores if English is not your first language. Our School requires a “Level 2” English language qualification which corresponds to:

IELTS: Overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the sub-tests.

TOEFL: Score of 96 overall, plus 24/30 in the reading and writing subtests and 22/30 in the listening and speaking subtests. 

Application Deadline

The application window closes 31 January 2024 (17:00 UK time) and a late submission window closes on 05 April 2024 (17:00 UK time). We advise those interested in the programme to apply before 31 January 2024, as those applying in the late submission window will only be considered if there are still places remaining.

Apply via UCL Postgraduate Admissions System here . When starting the application, you must select the MRes Financial Economics option. In addition to filling out the online application form, please upload a copy of the following documents:

• Official Transcripts of Grades / Course marks
• A 1 page personal statement that clearly indicates: (i) your research interests and preliminary research ideas, (ii) potential faculty member(s) you may want to work with (this is a suggested list, you don’t need to contact potential supervisors beforehand), and (iii) your motivation to do a PhD.
• Your  GRE  score report, if you took the test.
• Your IELTS/TOEFL score report, if English is not your first language.

Funding/Scholarships

We offer fully funded five year scholarships to all admitted students who apply before the 31 January 2024. The scholarship is open to all nationalities. It covers all tuition fees, and includes an annual stipend of £25,000 which is tax-free. 

Successful candidates who have submitted their application after 31 January 2024 may receive a scholarship subject to availability or will come with their own funding.

Additional Costs

This programme does not have any compulsory additional costs outside of purchasing books or stationery, printing, thesis binding or photocopying.  Students may have the opportunity to participate in conferences in the UK and internationally. The UCL School of Management provides MRes/PhD students with an annual budget for conferences, which students will use to cover the travel, accommodation, food and other costs whilst at conferences, in line with UCL’s expenses policy.

THE KEELING CENTRE

FOR ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY

SCHOLARSHIP

The UCL Philosophy Department offers up to two Keeling scholarships annually for graduate research in ancient philosophy, for students admitted to the MPhil. Stud. or the PhD programmes.  

AMOUNT AND ELIGIBILITY

These scholarships will fund tuition fees (UK, or international), and provide full AHRC-equivalent maintenance plus London allowance, and an annual research allowance of up to £1000. The duration of the scholarship will be for two years (MPhil. Stud.), or for three years (MPhil/ PhD, PhD).   

Only applicants to UCL Philosophy research programmes can be considered for a Keeling Scholarship.  MPhil Stud. students awarded a Keeling Scholarship in ancient philosophy are required to specialise to some extent in ancient philosophy over the two year programme, by completing at least two half year modules in the area of ancient philosophy, attending the weekly ancient philosophy reading group, and by writing their research thesis (25,000 - 30,000 words) on a topic in ancient philosophy. Other taught modules can be taken in any area of philosophy, as well as in the relevant ancient language as required. MPhil/ PhD and PhD students awarded a Keeling Scholarship will be pursuing a doctorate on a topic in ancient philosophy.  

Applicants should indicate on their application form that they wish to be considered for the Keeling Scholarship by writing 'Keeling Scholarship' in section §29 'Funding'. The deadline for applications to these programmes is July 2021, however those who wish to be considered for a Keeling Scholarship ought to apply by 31st January 2021. Call for doctoral Scholarships "South Partnership"

UCLouvain is organising a call for applications for doctoral scholarships, or for mobility scholarships in the framework of a doctoral or post-doctoral stay, for nationals of developing countries. Through this approach, UCLouvain wishes to contribute not only to the strengthening of the academic fabric of developing countries, but also to the establishment of new partnerships between UCLouvain and research or higher education institutions in these countries.

The 2023-2024 call is a joint call for two streams of funding opportunities for Doctoral candidates:

• UCLouvain's Conseil de l'Action Internationale (CAI) South Partnership Doctoral grants
• ARES-CCD (Commission pour la coopération au développement) Doctoral mobility grants

Both instruments provide funding for doctoral theses for nationals from the Global South, with slightly different conditions for access and funding. In addition, post-doctoral stays are also funded by ARES-CCD:

1. Eligibility criteria

To be eligible, the applicant must meet ALL of the following criteria:

• UCLouvain-CAI Doctoral scholarship “South Partnership”: Eligible countries are: Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Belize, Bhutan, Bolivia, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo, Congo (Democratic Republic of), Ivory Coast, Cuba, South Africa, Djibouti, Ecuador, El Salvador, Eritrea, Eswatini (Kingdom of), Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Haiti, Honduras, India, Iraq, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Micronesia (Federated States of), Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Uganda, Philippines, Central African Republic, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Chad, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tunisia, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.  
• ARES-CCD mobility grants in the framework of a doctorate or post-doctorate: Eligible countries are: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe.
• Be supported by at least one member of the academic staff of UCLouvain;
• Having initiated the process to be admitted by the Doctoral Domain Commission (CDD) of the candidate's research field at UCLouvain;
• Be free of any commitment to return to the country with respect to a granting organization that has financed training;
• For students who have already started their doctorate and are regularly registered at UCLouvain, not be a recipient of a scholarship.

Nationals of a country eligible for this call who, because of their administrative status within the EU, are comparable to Belgian students in terms of residence and/or social rights , are not eligible for this competition.

2. Selection criteria

The International Action Council (IAC) of UCLouvain will select the beneficiaries of the doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships on the basis of the following criteria:

Research dimension

• Academic quality: CV of the candidate.
• Quality of the research project.
• Quality of the environment: Suitability and quality of the teams at UCLouvain and in the partner institution(s) supervising the candidate

Development cooperation dimension

• Partnership: it is expected that the projects will directly involve a partner from a Southern institution (co-supervision or other form of collaboration with a scientist from the South). At a minimum, the project will describe one of the following elements: the involvement of one or more scientists from an institution in the South in the supervision of the thesis or post-doctoral research, collaborations with other ongoing projects in the South or in the North, or dissemination, awareness-raising and/or networking activities that are foreseen at UCLouvain and in the partner institution(s) in the South with a view to transferring skills and knowledge.
• Relevance in terms of global development and societal issues: scientific projects are expected to address development issues (in the sense of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs), beyond the objective of quality education (higher education), or the development of competences that are relevant for the partner institution or at least the country of origin. The project should refer to at least one of the following elements: the link with one of the MDGs, the capacity building components for the Southern partner(s) or the relevance of crossing South-North views on the project theme.
• It is expected that the project respects, where relevant, the dimensions of human rights, ethics and integrity, academic freedom, gender equality, and plurality of South and North views.

In case of multiple applications for new theses from the same promoter, the IAC members will select a maximum of one application, except for reasons deemed exceptional by them.

After the selection, a reasoned feedback will be sent to the promoter and the candidate upon request.

The deadline to respond to this call is February 28, 2023 . The application file and the exact conditions of each scholarship are available on the university intranet and can be requested from the promoter who will lead the project.
