Our country has a rich history, diverse culture, valuable heritage and many unique aspects. Learning about these aspects lays the foundation of patriotism in children. The pride in their country motivates them to be good citizens and think about themselves as part of a larger community. In school, students are asked to write an essay on their country to increase their general knowledge and improve their writing skills. This can be a fairly difficult topic to write about, as students will need lots of guidance on how to weave the facts with their thoughts. Here are some sample essays on ‘My Country’ for classes 1, 2 and 3.

Writing an essay about their country requires students to balance some facts about the country with their own perspectives. Here are some tips on how to compose an essay on ‘my country’:

  • For short essays in simple lines, stick to essential facts that define the country.
  • For short paragraph essays, children will have to express their thoughts about different aspects of their country.
  • For long essays on the country, students will be required to memorise important facts about the country, balanced with their perspectives.

A short essay for class 1 and class 2 can include facts about the country, and its important accomplishments. Here is an example for a simple one-line essay on our country:

  • India is my motherland, and I am a proud citizen of my country.
  • India has a large population with diverse people.
  • India is peninsular, forming the southern tip of Asia.
  • My country is vast and beautiful, surrounded by great seas to the south and the tallest mountain peaks to the north.
  • India got its independence from the British in 1947. It is now the largest democracy in the world.

My country, India, is an ancient country with a history that goes back thousands of years. We have a rich cultural heritage which is respected all over the world. India has also made remarkable contributions to science and technology.

India is part of the Asian continent. It is peninsular, surrounded by the Bay of Bengal to the east, the Arabian Sea to the west, and the great Indian Ocean to the south. Towards the north, the country is surrounded by great mountain ranges with the tallest peaks in the world called the Himalayas.

India has a vast and diverse population, making it the second-most populous country and the largest democracy in the world. India has various cultures, traditions, faiths, languages and even cuisines. I am proud of my country’s rich heritage and all its achievements.

To write a long paragraph on ‘my country’ for class 3, students will have to remember important facts about India. The essay can start with an introductory paragraph on modern India and its ancient roots. It can then go on to talk about various geographical features and cultures. Here is an example:

India is my country. It is a land of diverse cultures, languages, and religions living in unity and harmony. India is also called ‘Bharat’ or ‘Hindustan’ in its native languages. The Indian flag is tricoloured with stripes of saffron at the top, white in the middle, and green at the bottom with the Ashoka Chakra in the centre. India is an ancient country with a culture that spans thousands of years.

India is the world’s largest democracy, having the second-largest population. It has 28 states and eight union territories. It is the seventh-largest country by landmass. It is surrounded by the great Himalayas in the North and vast oceans to the South. India shares its borders with neighbouring countries such as China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar.

Historically the name India can be traced back to the river Indus, derived from the word ‘Sindhu.’ The country’s national animal is the tiger, and the national bird is the peacock.

India is also known as the land of spirituality and philosophy. People from different countries come to India to seek spiritual guidance. Even the practice of Yoga, now globally popular, originated in ancient India.

I am a proud Indian. If we strive for it, we can make India prosper and become a world leader in the future.

Writing an essay on their country encourages children to learn about their motherland and pick up some facts and general knowledge about their heritage. The essay also teaches children how to assimilate these facts and put them together in a coherent written format for their writing assignments. The essay can touch upon various aspects of the country, such as history, geographical and demographic facts, and noteworthy accomplishments. Students can then weave a good narrative around the facts and express their perspectives.

Essay No. 2

India is my country. She is dear to me than everything else in the world. She is a great country. It has a great past. All of us are proud of her culture and civilization. She has produced great sons and daughters who served her beyond limits. It is one of the oldest countries of the world. The glories of times that it was called the “Golden Sparrow” and traders throughout the world wished to travel here and see its glories glorious ancient period of this country was so peaceful that she produced masterpieces of literature and men of letters. It was the age of Vedas, Mahabharata and Ramayana. The great men and women of that age continue to be the torch-bearers of our culture till this day. The great Shree Rama and Shree Krishna were the products of that age.

The modern times saw many upheavals in this country. the foreign invaders looted the rich heritage of this country for hollowed this country. The country suffered foreign rule for centuries together which changed its face to a large extent. Such was the strength of the cultural heritage of the  this country that in spite of suffering the foreign yoke for centuries together , the soul of this country remained unchanged. It tried to adapt with every new influence received with every new ruler. Many foreign cultures, languages, religions and thoughts influenced the fabric of this country but the base remained unchanged because of its strong foundations. Britishers were the last to slave this country for more than a century. They left no stone unturned to leave their influences permanently. It was the last blow. Which left the masses of this country poor, terror- stricken, fearful, needy and diseased.

Then after a continued struggle of our freedom fighters for long decades our country saw the face of Independence on 15 th August, 1947 form the foreign rule and she became the largest democracy of the world but completely bruised. The Britishers played the dirtiest game of the modern times by encouraging her partition and Pakistan came into being. The process took its tool as thousands of innocent citizens were killed in the frenzy of Hindu- Muslim strives.

Now my country is taking strides towards her development though not so speedily but still satisfactorily. We are proud of our mixed culture and secular democratic set- up. It has raised our prestige in the international community as we have been successfully continuing our development processes and democratic institutions despite many hazards.

I wish my country progress by leaps and bounds and keep its integrity and honour quite intact for all times to come.

India was maybe the most important to Britain of the homes in the conglomerate. It was run in a different way from the utmost other corridors of the conglomerate because it had been different from other corridors of the conglomerate. India was largely populated. It had been economically developed. There have been countries with governments that were even as complex as Britain. As a result, Britain couldn't march by and take over. British rule developed through a mixture of military units and alliances with Indian autocrats.

By the 1800s, British rule in India was strong. Still, there were only a bitsy number of British dogfaces and directors in India. Indian civil retainers did the maturity of the day-to-day work that allowed British rule to operate. It's worth noting that Britain was in such bad shape that it entered about one-fourth of the total aid given under the Marshall Plan.

Anyhow, Gandhi or any other leader, Britain would have left India in 1947 purely for financial reasons, due to its wholly collapsed economy. After WWII, Britain left not only India but nearly all its other goods, including Jordan in 1946, Palestine in 1947, Sri Lanka in 1948, Myanmar in 1948, Egypt in 1952 and Malaysia in 1957.

For the same reason, France also had to grant independence to Laos in 1949 and Cambodia in 1953, and had to leave Vietnam in 1954; the Netherlands also left the ultimate of its colonies called Dutch East Indies, mainly Indonesia in 1949. Had there been no Hitler and no World War II, it most presumably would have taken another 30 or farther times for India and some of the other colonies to achieve independence.

My Country Essay

Essay on My Country -Introduction: With the passage of time and a century every nation” changes to some extent. The country achieves success or makes itself developed through working hard in a very much planned and practical way. Coping with time and century, we have already entered a new millennium.

Most of the countries of the world in the meantime have taken their own strategy to face the odds of the new millennium for changing a lot of the people and developing of the country.

History: Bangladesh is a small country in South Asia. It was under a colonial rule for 200 years. It became independent in 1971 through Liberation War. During 1971-1990 we had little political stability. Bangladesh includes in the list of least developed countries.

So as a poor country she faces more problems than the world does in the new millennium. The problems and prospects of Bangladesh in the new millennium may be the following.

Poverty: Poverty means pauperism, a situation for which man cannot meet the basic needs of life. It also means a situation where the living standard of the people is below normal. Poverty is a basic problem of Bangladesh. She is one of the poorest countries of the world. So, it is clear that poverty is going to be one of the great problems of Bangladesh in the new millennium.

If we do not remove poverty there would be no development In this situation the government has taken various measures to eliminate poverty from the country. Side by side the non-government organizations are also engaged in various programs for poverty alleviation.

Electricity: Electricity is an indispensable part of modern life. Proper supply of electricity is a pre-condition for economic development of any country. In the new millennium, we are looking for alternative sources. Bangladesh has a long history of the shortage of electricity. 1994, we had 134 days of load shedding for 434 hours.

Then the maximum shortage was 520 MW and the minimum was 29 MW. In January-June 1997 we had 174 days of power shortages and load-shedding occurred for 2165 hours.

This has now slightly improved in the first of new millennium. In the fifth Five Year Plan, the government has planned to increase power generation capacity to 5132 MW. This is nearly 53 percent increasing If we successfully implement the Fifth Five Year Plan. Bangladesh would like to achieve a 7 percent growth rate in the economy ensuring our development activities in the new millennium.

Don’t Forget to Check: Essay in English

An urban country: Bangladesh is mainly a rural country. More than 80% of her population living in villages. But in the new millennium, it is going to be an urban country. As cities offer more opportunities for employment, business, education, health, and other amenities more and more, the rural people are to migrate to the cities. Population growth, shortage of cultivable land, natural calamities like river erosion, flood etc. are the main causes of migration to the cities. It is high time in the new millennium to take Stian necessary steps to control urban migration.

In the field of information technology: Information Technology is a part of our life in the new millennium. We cannot think of our modern life without it. In order to get better services and more benefits from the new millennium, the government of Bangladesh is going to set up an information technology village very close to Dhaka city. This would be similar to the software technology parks in India. The future of information technology in Bangladesh is bright.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology secured the 24th position in the reputed universities in the USA. In the ACM programming contest on the Internet, the performance of Bangladesh, particularly from (BUET) performed better than those from other countries.

In Agriculture: Bangladesh is mainly agricultural land. More than 80% of her people depend on agriculture. Agriculture will be another thrust area in the new millennium. At present, our agriculture is facing the number of problems such as rising salinity, declining soil fertility, soil erosion in the hills etc.

It is high time to take the necessary steps to improve the agricultural section. Otherwise, we fail to face impending new millennium problems. In this situation, high varieties may become the best choice of the new millennium like a country Bangladesh.

Foreign Investment: Bangladesh is a country which badly needs foreign investment for her rapid economic growth and development. Foreign investment helps supply necessary capital to set up industries, ensure the quality of production. The domestic market of the country where investment is made is expended.

New millennium opens a new chapter for investment. The Bangladesh government has taken various steps to attract foreign voltmeters in Agriculture, Fisheries, Agro-based Industries, Leather, Textile, Tourism, Energy etc. The prospects of investment acility of Bangladesh in the new millennium is bright.

Conclusion: New millennium has opened a new chapter for every country. We expect that Bangladesh will march ahead with the world community for achieving the goal. For this object, we have to be honest and sincere in our every step of action. The politicians can make their supreme sacrifice in this regard to ensure peace and prosperity in all spheres of national life.

essay on my country Nepal

Essay on My Country Nepal For Students

If there is a country’s flag that stands out among all other countries it is the flag of Nepal . Our flag is very unique and cannot be compared to other countries’ flags due to its shape. It also has a hidden meaning behind it which represents the country’s peace-loving and friendly nature, bravery, and immortal history.

My country Nepal is situated between two countries, India and China. Although it is sandwiched between international powers, conflicts have not happened between any, and peace remains. Nepal is a country of various castes and cultures. In other words, it is like a beautiful garden of flowers with people of different ethnicities and backgrounds.

My country Nepal is not only unique for its flag but also its geographical terrain, the variety of castes and cultures you can find, and the rich history of it. It is the land of various great places and important figures that people know far and wide. The temperature here spans from cool to hot and is a heaven for residing in.

There are about 126 castes in Nepal each with its own rich history and culture which makes Nepal a rich place for culture. Some dating back to the millenniums. Not only that, our country is very rich in its geographical terrain. From the lowest point of just 70 Meters from sea level to the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest (8848.86 meters) , we have temperature scales that vary from place to place. It is divided into three regions, Terai, Hilly, and Himalayas each according to their altitude and geographical differences.

Himalayan regions have high and mighty Himalayas that are breathtaking to look at. Out of the world’s top 10 highest peaks, 8 of them fall in my country. It is already a great pride to have come from such a country. The diverse flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes, lush and green jungles, historical and religious places in Nepal are enough to gather the attention of foreigners and locals too. People from all over the world pay thousands of dollars just to see our country’s snow-capped mountains, rivers, cliffs, waterfalls, other beautiful landscapes, the rich flora and fauna, and sites of great religious and historical importance. It just doesn’t end there.

📌 Read –   Essay on the Importance of English Language

Our country ranks in the top 5 for the richest in water resources. With just a small country with an area of 1,47,181 sq kilometers, it has the potential to fuel hydropower worth 2% of the entire world. It may look small in number but taking our country’s small area in context, it is a potential incomparable to all. The Terai region holds fertile land and smooth flowing waters that are excellent for farming and cultivating.

Nepal is also known as an agricultural country where 60% of the people here follow agriculture as their work. Our country also has huge historical importance. Gautama Buddha the founder and preacher of Buddhism which is practiced worldwide was also born in Nepal. Buddhism is known to preach peace and non-violence and to love everyone. King Janak is also an important figure who holds great importance to communities in Nepal.

Other personalities include Bhrikuti, Araniko, etc. Our country is also known for its bravery. Our country never has to celebrate Independence day as we were never under the rule of any other. We stood and fought against the Britans and other Mongol countries. Brave Gorkhalis were united after a long struggle and fought their way to preserve their country. The courage and bravery of Nepali people are also know world wide. Many brave Gorkhalis went to fight under countries in world wars and won various colors and medals. This brought our country so much respect that we even enjoy it for granted to date.

Although our country’s history, culture, terrains, and achievements make anyone feel proud, the power struggle for the politicians, previous kings, and presidents have made the country weak and fall in the developing country category. Our rich natural resources have not been utilized and we have fallen way behind. Corruption is widely prevalent in our country and the loans we have taken from other countries are in a large number. The amount of food and other materialistic consumption has made Nepal import more and export less.

Our country is poor but the people here are rich. This is because of the corruption and the illegal working/trading that has been done. The government has not made significant progress and the people aren’t responsible. Although I feel proud to be A Nepali, the condition of my country makes me feel bad. People should feel responsible and carry out their duties and not just complain about the government.

The government too should implement proper policies and rules and enforce them accordingly. Utilization of our natural resources should be done in an effective way and social evils such as discrimination according to castes and genders, other superstitions should be slowly removed. Centralized development should stop and we should control the people moving out to other countries with their skills that are wasted abroad. This way we can slowly develop our country.

This Long Essay on Nepal, My Nation My Pride is written by Abhishek Raj Jha

Essay on Nepal MY COUNTRY MY PRIDE [1500 words]

Mother and country are more prominent than paradise. It is a genuine proclamation. We are born in this nation that is brimming with characteristic delights.

We are exceptionally nationalist. We adore the country more than our soul. Nation resembles a paradise for me. My nation’s name is Nepal. It is gotten from two supernatural words ‘Ne’ and ‘Pala’.

The word Nepal implies a nation of peace and love. This is where Master Gautama Buddha ‘ the light of Asia’ was born. This is a nation of Bir Gorkhalies. The most noteworthy crest on the planet Mt. Everest is situated in a nation that makes a nation the best.

There are numerous mountains in my nation along these lines it is called a precipitous nation. Numerous waterways spill out of the mountain to the slopes and plain place where there is Terai.

My nation Nepal is isolated into three geological districts and seven advancement areas called provinces. Nation national bloom is the rhododendron, the national fowl is Daphne, the national color is a smirk and the national weapon is khukuri.

My nation Nepal is little on the planet outline, but for me, my nation whether it is little or enormous is a world. Numerous national identities are born in nation life: Prithivi Narayan Shah, Bahadur Shah, Rajendra Laxmi, etc. The history of the nation Nepal is great.

Every one of the pages of history is loaded with the hot and red blood of national legends. My nation Nepal is the Yam between two major stones. I mean it is between the two greatest nations India and China. Nation Nepal is separated into numerous ethnic gatherings.

The nation is multi-rank, multi-culture, multi-convention, and multi-religious. They are of various positions yet they are living in ‘solidarity of assorted variety’ without battling for the sake of culture, religion, rank, and so forth. They are living in a tranquil condition.

People of diverse religions and beliefs are the dominant features of my country’s society. Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity are the major religions that are practiced in my country.

People have a sense of unity, though living in diversity. Mostly, Brahmins and Chhetris are regarded as Hindu believers and people from the Mongoloid community are taken as Buddhist devotees, but they have good respect for each other in the course of cultural exchange.

A Hindu has a distinct tradition of sacrificing animals to the goddess because they are the symbol of having ferocious power and need the blood of a living being to be satisfied. Lord Shiva is considered to be the supreme God in Hinduism.

The way of life in my country is a collection of music, engineering, religion, and writing. Our mountain kingdom is multi-ethnic and multi-lingual. The land is rich with interesting social gatherings like Tharu, Yadav, Ahir, Newars, and others.

Culture is inserted in the high pinnacles of our country, convention streams with its waterways, workmanship crosses through its valleys and religion lies in the core of its kin. Our country is a place where craftsmanship, culture, and religion are a piece of the life of the occupants. Individuals praise each minute with the smell, adding curiosity to the customs without influencing their quintessence.

Further, the craftsmanship and engineering of my country are profoundly impacted by religion. Exceptional craftsmanship can be found in sanctuaries, engineering, sanctums, wellsprings, and the outline of religious articles.

Craftsmanship and religion are so profoundly interlocked that it is difficult to isolate one from the other. All artistic expressions express both Hindu and Buddhist iconography.

Essay on Nepal – Our country, our pride [200 words]

There is a widely famous statement that “Mother and motherland are greater than heaven.” This quote is so true without any doubt. We are born in a country that is filled with natural beauty.

The feeling of patriotism flows in the blood of every Nepalese citizen. We love the nation more than our soul. Our country is like heaven for us. Our country’s name is Nepal.

The word Nepal signifies a country of peace and love. Nepal is a country where Lord Gautam Buddha also known as the ‘light of Asia’ was born. Nepal is a country of Bir Gorkhali soldiers. The highest peak in the world i.e. Mt. Everest is located in our country Nepal.

There are various mountains in our country therefore Nepal is also globally known as a mountainous country. Our country Nepal is divided into three geographical regions and five development regions.

The national flower of Nepal is the rhododendron, the national bird is Daphne, the national color is the smirk and the national weapon is khukuri. Our country Nepal is very small on the world map but for us, whether it is small or big it is the world.

Nepalese can see the whole world in their homeland. Many national personalities are born in our country. For instance Prithvi Narayan Shah, Bahadur Shah, Rajendra Laxmi, and so on.

The history of the country Nepal is very powerful. All the pages of the past are crammed with hot as well as pure dark red blood of our national heroes. Our country Nepal is the Yam between two big stones.

This means Nepal lies in the middle of two leading countries i.e. India and China. Country Nepal is divided into many ethnic groups. The country is multi-caste, multi-culture, multi-tradition, and multi-religious.

Nepalese are living in a very peaceful environment. Nepal is loved by many tourists numbers of tourists is increasing day by day. Tourists are attracted by countries by which country can move ahead in their economic status.

Foreign currency which tourists left in the country helps to make the country more developed. We, Nepalese people, do not need big buildings, expensive things, etc. We are happy by the smell of rhododendron.

We are happy with the natural beauties which are located in the country. We all are well known for the saying, “Hario ban Nepal ko Dhan”. It is true as every green forest in Nepal is wealth for our country.

More than 80% of the total population of the whole country depends upon agriculture therefore country can be said as an agricultural country also. Many rivers, green forests, mountains, lakes, etc. make the country at the top.

Our country Nepal is heaven for us. Our country which is full of natural beauty is everything for me that I want. We all Nepalese are ready to sacrifice souls to our country Nepal. We feel very proud to be Nepali. Thus, we say that our country is a pride for us. We feel proud to say that we are Nepali.

Essay on Nepal – My Country My Pride (Essay in 300 words)

Nepal is known for its natural beauty in the world. There is no sea linked with this country but yet people like to see mountains, hills, forests, rivers, lakes and so many other things. Everyone knows Nepal as the country with the highest mountain in the world.

This is the only country where people have found innumerable kinds of birds which live in high mountains as well as in low Terai. Most people enjoyed mountain climbing, trekking, rafting in the rivers and lakes, and having a wonderful view of wild animals.

Mountains speak their beauty, golden view in the morning, the sun playing in those regions. Bright red light can be observed in the west on the horizon at the sunset. Probably the sun looks playing with young people of the land.

Rivers flow from the high mountains twisting and turning around the hills and through the Terai and reaching the other’s land. The murmuring brooks (rivers) refresh the human heart and mind. Sals, pines, and other trees where rhododendrons smile in full bloom. Leaves and branches move in the gentle breeze.

Lophophorus sing beautiful songs in higher flights. Lovely flowers bloom and. smile in rainbow colors. The cuckoo is seen sitting on branches and calling the spring with rapturous songs. Mechi, Koshi, and Karnali run far in distance carrying calls from Nepalese people for foreigners.

Mechi is in the east. Kali in the west making borders of the country. Mountains in the north and Terai in the south join with neighboring countries. Southern plain lands speak their own words. Green crops and harvest produce their delights. During the plow, planting, and harvesting one can enjoy the songs sung by the farmers.

Temples and pagodas ring the bells and gongs (large bells) to invite the foreigners. Wild animals living in the dense forest make a beautiful show for the people. Who will miss the beauties of Nepal? Who’ll not have the desire to see once the real beauty of Nature?

Essay On My Country

My country is Kenya. It is located in the eastern part of Africa, with a population of about a 53million.  Did you know that the 44 th president of the USA has roots in Kenya? Did you also know that Kenya hosts one of the seven wonders of the world? Locating Kenya on the world map requires understanding its brief history based on its economic, political, and social activities. This discussion describes the various aspect of my country Kenya, based on the past, present, and future activities from economic, political, and cultural perspectives.

A brief history of Kenya shows that it got its independence from the British colonizers in 1963. Before colonization, there was no country like Kenya. It was just a vast land made of many tribal groups with their tribal leadership. These communities had their traditional ways of life that were far from the current world civilization. However, during the colonization, Africa was partitioned and the country Kenya was born. It comprises a total of 42 tribes who have been enclosed in a common border and have therefore experienced a common history. Currently, Kenya is an independent state with its own economic, political, and social organizations that distinguish it from the rest of the world.

Kenya is an economically strong country. It is the sixth strongest economy in Africa after South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Algeria. Its main economic activity is agriculture, which accounts for almost 60% of its total GDP (Ng'asike, Hagmann, and Wasonga, 12). The main crops grown in Kenya include tea and coffee, which are exported for cash. Food production in Kenya is also adequate, with the country being able to sustain the food demand for the entire population throughout the season. Tourism becomes the second sector of the economy that earns the country a lot of income. With many game parks, hotels, and cultural activities, tourists, both locally and internationally flock to the country for a taste of Kenyan uniqueness. It makes Hotels and traveling agencies collect adequate income that boosts the economy of the country. Other economic activities for the country include mining and service industries. Kenya is the home of M-M-Pesa, a mobile banking platform that makes the country to be unique in its way. It is therefore a highly growing economy with many upcoming industries and inventions from both the locals and the foreign investors.

Socially, Kenya is one of the most interesting countries to visit.  It hosts a wide range of social activities that are combined with modernity and cultural traditions. Kenya contains a total of 42 tribes with different unique traditional activities. However, modernization has made Kenya embrace one culture that enables free interaction based on the existing national values. "Harambee” is a Kenyan term that means "pulling together”. It is a social aspect of society that enables people to work together to achieve a common goal. Intermarriages among different tribes of the country have always been the order of the day. Kenya has also a unique social identity that is free from discrimination based on race, or ethnicity. It is for this reason that Kenya welcomes visitors from all over the world through, "Karibu Kenya”, a Kiswahili phrase that translates to "Welcome to Kenya” (Juma and Khademi-Vidra, 4732).  Currently, Kenya hosts all races in the world who work harmoniously and coexist without experiencing any identity challenges.

Politically, Kenya is known for its democratic governance, with the people having a say. It is one of the few African countries that have never experienced any coup deter. Its political stability has been one of the reasons that many local and foreign investors have successfully established their businesses in the country. The ability to have an organized system of government with proper power transition makes Kenya one of the most admired states in the continent of Africa. However, like many other democracies in the world, Kenya has had its share of democratic challenges that resulted in violence (Kamau, 136). Every five years, there has always been fear of political instability due to electoral processes which some people view not to be fair. However, the judiciary has always taken control and solved the disputes that emanate from such political processes. Good political relations with other countries have also enabled Kenya to be a destination for foreign direct investments. The country is hence, considered a role model for many states in the world that are still struggling to achieve a working democracy.

In conclusion, Kenya is one of the most admired states in the world. It is a country that I am proud to be associated with. Despite the existence of small challenges that affect every developing country in the world, there is a lot to be proud of as a Kenyan. Among them is the strong political institution that we have as a nation, especially a working democracy. The availability of diverse economic activities that enable the population to survive makes it a good country to live in. Socially, it is one of the best in the world that respects the dignity of all humans without any form of distribution. Always feel most welcome in Kenya.

My Country Knows What Happens When You Do a Deal With Russia

A statue of Vladimir Lenin outside a government building.

By Paula Erizanu

Ms. Erizanu is a Moldovan journalist who focuses on politics and the arts in Eastern Europe. She wrote from Chisinau, Moldova.

More and more people, including Pope Francis , are asking Ukraine to drop its defense and sit at the negotiation table with Russia. Citing the stalemate on the battlefield and Russia’s superior resources, they urge Ukraine’s leadership to consider a deal. What exactly that would involve is largely left unsaid. But it would clearly involve freezing the conflict, resigning Ukraine’s occupied territory to Russia in exchange for an end to the fighting.

My country, Moldova, knows all about that kind of bargain. A small western neighbor of Ukraine, Moldova experienced Russia’s first post-Soviet war of aggression, which ended with a cease-fire agreement in 1992. Thirty-two years later, 1,500 Russian troops are still stationed on internationally recognized Moldovan territory, despite the Kremlin’s formal agreement to withdraw them in 1994 and then once again in 1999 . The case shows that Russia simply cannot be trusted.

But there’s a bigger problem for Ukraine than Russian untrustworthiness. It’s that freezing a conflict, without a full peace deal, simply does not work. For three decades, it has fractured Moldova, hindered national development and given Russia continued opportunities to meddle with Moldovan life. A frozen conflict, we should remember, is still a conflict. Anyone calling for Ukraine to settle for one should heed Moldova’s cautionary tale.

The ground for the Russian-Moldovan war was Transnistria , a strip of land in eastern Moldova with about 370,000 people. With support from Moscow — but no formal recognition — the territory declared independence from Moldova in 1990, setting off violence that escalated into conflict. Russian-backed separatists clashed with government security forces, and troops from both sides fought each other. Hundreds of people died. Russia stopped providing Moldova with gas, leaving people in cities to freeze in their apartments and cook their food outside on bonfires.

After four intense months of fighting, a cease-fire deal was signed in the summer of 1992 by President Boris Yeltsin of Russia and his Moldovan counterpart, Mircea Snegur. It established a security zone to be patrolled by so-called peacekeeping forces, effectively locking Moldova out of Transnistria. For 30 years, Transnistria has maintained a separate government, set of laws, flag and currency — all under Russian protection. Moldova has never recognized Transnistria’s independence, nor has any other member of the United Nations.

The self-proclaimed republic hasn’t fared well. It has become known for its arms and drug smuggling and a poor human rights record . Dissenters are persecuted and independent journalists are detained ; last summer an opposition leader was found shot dead at home. Most of the region’s economy is dominated by a single company, Sheriff, founded by a former K.G.B. agent.

Transnistria cleaves Moldova in two. On the right bank of the Dniester River, in democratic Moldova, there is a free press in Romanian, the official language of the country, along with Russian and other minority tongues. On the left bank, in autocratic Transnistria, the media is controlled by the authorities, who use it to transmit Russian propaganda.

Perhaps the starkest division is in education. Above Transnistrian schools, the Russian and Transnistrian — but not Moldovan — flags are mounted. There, as well as in the press, Romanian is written in Cyrillic rather than Latin script, just as it was in the Soviet Union. In history classes, pupils learn that ethnic Romanians on the right bank of the Dniester are fascists who want to kill them. With limited education and meager work opportunities, most young people leave the region after they graduate.

Some of them go to Chisinau, Moldova’s capital. But being in Russia’s sphere of influence has forestalled Moldova’s economic development. While Moldova used to export wines, fruits and vegetables to Russia, following the Soviet trade model, Moscow traded mainly gas and oil.

The Kremlin has always weaponized these commercial relations. In 2006 , Moscow placed an embargo on Moldovan produce after Moldova refused to accept a Russian-devised federalization plan. The Kremlin came up with new bans on imports in the run-up to Moldova signing an association agreement with the European Union in 2014 and again after Moldova became an E.U. candidate country in 2022 .

Similarly, Moscow has exploited Moldova’s reliance on it for energy. By signing contracts only at the last minute, reducing gas supplies ahead of winter and threatening to stop deliveries, Moscow exerts considerable control over the country. While Europe invests in good governance and infrastructure in Moldova, Russia has invested only in propaganda and agents of influence, fueling corruption, division and instability.

Russia has played on fears of renewed conflict since the 1990s. Since the invasion of Ukraine, those efforts have gone into overdrive . Rumors about Transnistria requesting Russian annexation and false reports of attacks in the region are common. Kremlin officials repeatedly threaten Moldova and claim it is a second Ukraine , adding to the anxiety people already feel living next door to a full-blown war.

This is a particularly bad year for Moldova to be under such pressure. In October, Moldovans will vote for their next president, as well as in a referendum on joining the European Union. With accession negotiations set to open this year, Moldova is looking to move closer to Europe. But Russia won’t let it go lightly.

For Moldovans, the war in Transnistria is a wound, constantly picked at in books and films. “Carbon,” released in 2022, is a good example. Set during the war in 1992, the film centers on a veteran of the Soviet war in Afghanistan and his younger neighbor who wants to enroll in the Moldovan volunteer troops. On the way, they discover a carbonized body, which could be from either side of the conflict. They try, often comically, to find out its identity and provide it with a dignified burial.

Based on a true story and made by a crew with personal connections to Transnistria, the film broke national box office records. Mariana Starciuc, the scriptwriter, summed up the subtext. “Transnistria,” she said , “is the root for all of our problems for the past 30 years.”

Today her words ring truer than ever. It is because of the frozen conflict that Moldova is still under Russian influence, with its constant threats and endless jeopardy. Yet Moldovans fear escalation not because we haven’t sat down at negotiation tables with Russians but because we have, and the result was deeply damaging. Ukraine must not make the same mistake.

My Country Essay in English for Class 10, Class 12 – 500+ Words

The name of my country is the “Islamic Republic of Pakistan.” It is very dear to me. It is my homeland and I am proud of being Pakistani. Pakistan came into being on August 14, 1947. It was a united country before it. At that time it was ruled over by the British. The British were foreigners and ruled over this country for about 200 years. It was the age of slavery. The British were very cruel to the Muslims. The Muslims were leading miserable life. Their condition was pitiable. Before that, the Muslims had ruled over this great country for 800 years with great pomp and show. Unfortunately, they were made slaves by the British.

“In Pakistan, lies our deliverance, defence and honour.” – (Muhammad Ali Jinnah)

At last, the Muslims started a movement for their freedom. A number of great Muslim leaders created a wave of religious, social and political awakening in Muslims. Among these great leaders, the names of Tipu Sultan, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Syed Ahmad Shaheed, Maulana Nazir Ahmad, Maulana Halim Maulana Shibli, Ali Brothers and Maulana Zafar Ali Khan are worth mentioning. Allama Iqbal tops this list. In his poetry, he gave the Muslims the message of hope. He taught them self-respect and gave them a sense of dignity. He showed them their glorious past and gave them the hope of a bright future.

In his speech at Allahabad in 1930, Allama Iqbal expressed the idea that Muslims of India should have their own independent state. In this way, he was the first Muslim leader to visualize Pakistan.

“The ultimate aim of an ego is not to see something, but is to be something.” – (Allama Muhammad Iqbal)

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a great leader of the Muslims who united the Muslims under his great leadership. As a result of his struggle, Pakistan appeared on the map of the world on August 14, 1947. Hence he was the founder of Pakistan. He was appointed as the first Governor-General of Pakistan. His health went down day by day due to his overwork. He died on September 11, 1948. he lives in our hearts. His motto was “Faith, Unity and Discipline.”

The aim of the establishment of Pakistan was to establish an Islamic Society and Islamic state. Pakistan is in fact, the fort of Islam. It stands for the support of the whole Islamic World. God has blessed Pakistan with rich resources. Now it is our entre duty to make Pakistan a great, strong and prosperous country.

“Men Love their country, not because it is great, but because it is their own.” – (Seneca)

The population of Pakistan is about 150 Million. It has four provinces, Punjab Sindh, Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. The capital of Pakistan is Islamabad, a beautiful and worth seeing place. Other famous cities of Pakistan are Karachi, Lahore Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta and Hyderabad. The national language of Pakistan is Urdu.
