Required Application Materials

The following instructions are a guide for completing the application for the PhD program at Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth (Dartmouth Engineering).

PhD+PhD-I : New students interested in the PhD Innovation (PhD-I) Program can apply to both the PhD and PhD-I within the same application. Follow the PhD process outlined below , and submit the additional required materials for the PhD-I.

Please read the following instructions carefully. Only complete applications will be considered for admission.

Online Application

Applicants must complete the application for admission online. It is not necessary to send us a hard copy. Online applications open August 1 of each year.

Updating Your Materials

Your test scores and mailing address can be updated at any time through your application status page. After submission, other components (resume, statement of purpose, essays, etc.) cannot be updated. Please be sure you have entered the most accurate information at the time of submission. Due to the volume of applications received, we cannot update these materials after submission.

Acknowledgement

After submission, you will receive an email acknowledgement through the application system.

Application Status

To see the status of your application, visit your online application status page. Please note that it may take a few days for application materials to be processed.

Application materials and supporting documents become the property of the Admissions Committee and are not returnable.

General Policies

False Statements/Materials: If a candidate for admission to Dartmouth makes a false statement or submits falsified material in connection with his or her application, and the misrepresentation is discovered after the candidate has been admitted, the offer of admission ordinarily will be withdrawn. If the misrepresentation is discovered after a student arrives on campus or at any time during their enrollment, the student will be subject to loss of credits earned and disciplinary action that could include separation from the College. If the discovery occurs after a degree has been awarded, the degree normally will be rescinded.

Security and Fire Safety Report: Dartmouth prepares an annual Security and Fire Safety Report which is available to all current and prospective employees and students. The report includes statistics of reported crimes that have occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings, or on property owned or controlled by Dartmouth, and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus as well as reported fires occurring in residential facilities. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning sexual assault, fire safety, and other matters. You may obtain a copy of this report by contacting the Director of Safety and Security and the College Proctor at +1 (603) 646-4000.

Application Fee

A non-refundable application fee of $50 is required of all applicants, except for Dartmouth College or Dartmouth Engineering students and alumni. The fee must be paid by credit card. Applications will not be processed until this fee is received.

Letters of Recommendation

Three (3) letters of recommendation must be completed and submitted online directly by your recommenders . Please have your recommenders complete the evaluation form that will be emailed to them and submit a signed letter on their official institutional letterhead. If your recommender’s company or institution has a policy against letterhead they must provide a copy of this policy with the recommendation letter.

Letters of recommendation should ideally come from your college professors using their official school email address. Applicants with work or military experience or currently in another graduate program should submit a recommendation from their immediate supervisor, a current or former employer, or someone who knows them well through some other professional or community activity.

Academic Transcripts

All applicants are required to submit academic transcripts from each undergraduate or graduate institution from which you obtained your degrees (eg. your bachelor’s degrees or other advanced degrees.)

You may scan and upload a copy of your academic transcript (not diploma) issued by the institution(s) from which you obtained your undergraduate degree(s) and any advanced/graduate degree(s) directly to the online application.

For grading scales other than 4.0 grading scales: Please include documentation indicating the scale.

Applicants with international transcripts are encouraged to submit a transcript evaluation from WES (World Education Services) along with their Dartmouth Engineering application. While a WES evaluation is not mandatory for admission, it can help expedite the application review process. If you are admitted, you will need to submit official academic transcripts for all your international coursework and credentials. WES evaluations can be used instead of official transcripts, but they must be sent directly to Dartmouth Engineering by the evaluation service provider, and they must include a copy of the official transcripts that were evaluated.

Non-degree coursework: If you attended institutions other than those from which your degree(s) were granted, you are required to scan and upload your academic transcripts from these institutions (transfer coursework, domestic or study-abroad programs, postgraduate non-degree coursework, etc.).

If you have more than three undergraduate transcripts or three graduate transcripts to upload, please combine them by uploading a file that contains more than one transcript.

  • Scan BOTH sides of your transcript (provided the second side is not blank).
  • Depending on the scanner and software, you may either insert individual images (.jpg) into a single word processing document for upload, OR if your software produces a .pdf, simply upload that file.
  • The file must be less than 1 MB, in a standard format, WITHOUT password protection or macros. Any of these problems will cause the upload process to fail.
  • A diploma is not a transcript.

If you upload a scanned copy of your transcript, you do not need to send a hard copy. The scanned copy fulfills the requirement for the application process. Upon admission, you will be required to supply an official hard copy of your transcript.

Admitted students: If admitted, you will be required to request that ONE official, original hardcopy transcript mailed to Dartmouth Engineering (mailing address below) directly from each college and/or university you have attended in a signed, sealed envelope. We will accept a transcript via email if that is your prior institution’s method of transcript delivery.

International applicants must make arrangements to have their academic records translated and sent along with originals. Where American-style transcripts are not used, the applicant must include all available records including courses, grades, degrees, and rank-in-class. The appropriate university officials must certify these records. Evaluations from WES (World Education Services) can be used instead of official transcripts, but they must be sent directly to Thayer by the evaluation service provider, and they must include a copy of the official transcripts that were evaluated.

Supplemental Form: Research Area, Identifying Faculty, Statement of Purpose/Essay & CV/Resume

Research Area: Engineering PhD students typically are funded through a professor’s sponsored research or a fellowship. Students interested in applying to the PhD program are encouraged to reach out to individual faculty members to discuss potential projects.

Through the PhD program, students may elect one of the six program areas to be reflected as a "concentration." In the application, you will be prompted to select which track you are interested in pursuing. Applicants should indicate all areas of interest in order to be considered for the widest possible range of opportunities. Students can switch program areas after starting the program.

Identifying Dartmouth Engineering faculty members of interest : The supplemental form of the application will be used to match your area(s) to those of faculty or to determine your focus. You must select at least one and may choose up to three faculty from the drop-down list in the application.

Fill this out carefully and list your top faculty interest first. We strongly encourage you to review research by program areas and contact Dartmouth Engineering faculty for an initial conversation about research opportunities.

Statement of Purpose/Essay: You will be prompted to write a brief essay describing your research interests and career goals and the reasons you wish to pursue graduate studies at Dartmouth. Include any information that does not appear elsewhere that will help us evaluate your application. If possible, keep your essay to 1–2 pages.

CV/Resume: Upload your most recent CV or resume.

Optional Essay: Dartmouth Engineering is committed to a climate that acknowledges and embraces diversity of perspectives and backgrounds, supporting a culture that fosters inclusion and actively pursues equity. In this optional essay, applicants are encouraged to share how their personal perspectives and unique life experiences will contribute to Dartmouth and the Dartmouth Engineering community.

TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo (International Applicants)

Non-US citizens must submit language proficiency test scores, with the exception of those who are earning or have earned a degree from institutions in the US or Canada, or who are from the following countries: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ghana, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Slovenia, and Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the US.

For all graduate programs, Dartmouth Engineering accepts the following English proficiency tests: TOEFL , IELTS , and Duolingo . During the application process, self-reported scores are acceptable. However, once admitted, students will be required to submit official test results directly from the testing organization.

IELTS scores should be sent to "Dartmouth College" with the ETS code 3360.

GREs (optional)

GREs are optional for all Dartmouth Engineering graduate programs. If you would like to include GRE scores to give the admissions committee a better understanding of your qualifications, we accept self-reported scores at the time of application. If you enter self-reported scores, you will be required to provide official scores if admitted. Visit the ETS website and use code 3360.

Eligibility Requirements

The foundation for doctoral engineering degree work is undergraduate preparation in science, mathematics, and engineering principles. Applicants must hold a bachelor's or master's degree to be considered for the program, although a master’s degree is not required. Students admitted to the program who are not prepared to complete the first-year requirements are advised to enter the MS program and petition to be admitted to the PhD program. Students who have prior graduate training may be considered for advancement to candidacy after completing one or two terms of the first-year doctoral program.

International Students

Language proficiency test scores are required for non-US citizens, with the exception of those who are earning or have earned a degree from institutions in the US or Canada, or who are from the following countries: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ghana, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Slovenia, and Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the US.

While all applications are looked at holistically, we recommend the following score ranges:

  • TOEFL scores of 100 or higher
  • IELTS scores of 6.5 or higher
  • Duolingo scores of 135 or higher

Students applying to Dartmouth Engineering's PhD program

Students not already enrolled in a Dartmouth Engineering PhD program must submit all required materials for the PhD program listed above in addition to the following:

When completing the online application, check the box indicating "Innovation Program" interest on the program information page of the application.

On the PhD Supplemental Form of the online application, you will be prompted to submit the following two essays for the PhD-I Program, in addition to the materials required for the main PhD program.

Statement on PhD-I Program Interest (two-pages max): Submit a statement specific to the PhD-I Program that addresses the following:

  • Reasons for interest in the PhD-I Program
  • Why the program is relevant to your long-term career goals
  • An example demonstrating creativity in arriving at a solution

Statement on Broad Technology Development Problem (two-pages max): Describe an example of a broad technology development problem that interests you. It should be written in the general form of a proposal for funding. Specify one or two potential Dartmouth Engineering faculty advisors for your proposed work (prior contact with those faculty members by email is recommended).

Post Bachelors:  A total of 64 graduate-level credits, 32 of which must meet the MS-EE requirements. A successfully defended PhD prospectus may be used to satisfy the MS thesis/project requirement.

Post Masters:  A total of 32 graduate-level credits.

The PhD in Engineering provides maximum flexibility for students to address 21st century challenges through their studies and research. Emphasis Areas enable students to focus in either a specific disciplinary specialty or interdisciplinary area.

Degree Program Summary:

To define, develop, adapt, and disseminate knowledge and technologies for engineering and management of interdisciplinary engineering systems.

The Ph.D. in Engineering encourages exploration and definition of new engineering approaches and new engineering fields with an open structure for connecting and integrating for solving problems. Graduates will be prepared for successful careers as teachers, researchers, and inventive engineers in a world of unpredictable future changes. They will learn about university-industry-government interactions by preparing research proposals, papers, and disclosures of intellectual property for competitive peer evaluation. They will also have opportunities to master essential skills for introducing products in start-up and large company environments. Typically, twenty-four hours (and six hours of dissertation research) are required in addition to the Masters coursework. The plan must contain at least 16 hours of 8000 level courses. The Russ College’s Mechanical and Systems Engineering Ph.D. program is a collaborative effort between the departments of industrial and systems engineering and mechanical engineering. The mission of the Mechanical and Systems Engineering Ph.D. program is to graduate engineering professionals who continue to contribute to their discipline after graduation, who can contribute to the wellbeing of society, and who are prepared to become leaders in research and teaching in academic, government, and industry positions.

We offer two specialization tracks, one in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) and one in Mechanical Engineering (ME). The ISE track includes specialization areas in manufacturing systems, manufacturing information systems, artificial intelligence, systems simulation, process planning, warehousing, genetic algorithms, data mining, human factors, transportation logistics, supply chain management, reliability, and neural networks.

A minimum of 60 semester hours beyond the Master of Science (M.S.) degree is required consisting of:

  • A minimum of 30 semester hours beyond an M.S. of dissertation work and
  • 30 semester hours of approved graduate coursework

An interdisciplinary component, for which graduate coursework is taken outside the program track, is a general program requirement. In addition to general program requirements, specific track requirements must also be satisfied. Students must pass qualifying and comprehensive exams, and must successfully propose and defend a doctoral dissertation.

A plan of study is approved by the student’s dissertation advisory committee, the specialization track coordinator, and the chair of the program steering committee.

Admission Requirements

To apply for our doctoral program, you’ll need:

  • A Master of Science degree in engineering or a highly related field, i.e., chemistry, physics, or applied mathematics, computer science, production/operations management. (Applicants holding degrees in closely related fields or from non-accredited engineering institutions may be required to compensate for deficiencies with additional coursework.)
  • Minimum M.S. GPA of 3.3
  • GRE general test with a quantitative score of at least 158
  • TOEFL or IELTS test with a score that meets the minimum university requirement, if applicable
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who can attest to the applicant’s academic and research aptitude

Admission to the program is restricted to those students whose educational plans fall within one of the two specialty areas.

Why study Engineering Education?

The University of Cincinnati’s graduate degree in Engineering Education will prepare students to design and execute a research agenda that advances the knowledge base in engineering education, while in parallel advancing their expertise within a technical engineering discipline of their choice. In addition, each student will specialize in one of three focus area options: higher education in engineering, engineering education in PreK-12 levels (formal and informal environments, for- or non-profit), or engineering industry and workforce development. A degree in engineering education can lead to a career in academia, industry, or government.

Engineering education research, as a discipline, builds on the theories, methods of inquiry, and ways of knowing that have been and continue to be developed in related disciplines - including anthropology, diversity equity and inclusion studies, economics, education, neuroscience, philosophy, political science, psychology, and sociology, along with education research in science, technology, and mathematics - through the lens of engineering. Students will be introduced to theories related to the teaching and learning of engineering, the applications of pedagogy and assessment, as well as develop advanced knowledge on research methods, including quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods of inquiry.

Admission Requirements

  • GRE - Required of all international students; GRE is exempt for students that earned a degree from an ABET accredited university (or equivalent accreditation) in the USA with a GPA of 3.0+
  • Transcript(s) and Degree Certificates (unofficial transcripts are used for admissions review, only admitted applicants submit official transcripts)
  • GPA of at least 3.0 in a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree program in engineering, mathematics, or the physical sciences from a college or university regarded as standard by a regional or general accrediting agency
  • Research Statement - (1-3 pages) should describe your research interests (see below), with specific reference to the research area(s), engineering education research methodology, and focus area. You may choose to build on or tie in prior research experience. This statement is used by the faculty as an example of your writing, to help gauge your potential to effectively engage in research at this degree level, and to help determine if the Engineering Education program is a good fit.
  • Statement of Purpose - (1-2 pages) should include brief narratives about: a) your academic, professional, and previous research experiences (if not discussed in your research statement); b) your immediate and long-range aspirations; c) how the Engineering Education program will help you to meet your goals; and d) any additional information you feel strengthens your application (e.g., your perspective on the relationship between educational research and teaching/learning). This statement is used by the faculty as an example of your writing and to help determine if the Engineering Education program is a good fit.
  • Curriculum Vita (resume) - should include your name(s), a phone number, e-mail address, and colleges attended with degrees and dates. Also include, if applicable, employment history, honors and awards, publications and presentations, and relevant professional experiences (e.g., research, teaching/tutoring, service). Your CV does not need to be structured with these sections and is not limited to these items.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • International students - English Proficiency Test: TOEFL (minimum 92) or IELTS (minimum 6.5)

Description of Engineering Education Research Areas:

  • Engineering Epistemologies : research on what constitutes engineering now and into the future
  • Engineering Learning Mechanisms : research on developing engineering learners’ knowledge and expertise
  • Engineering Learning Systems : research on the instructional culture and knowledge required of engineering educators
  • Engineering Diversity and Inclusiveness : research on how diverse human talents contribute to the social and global relevance of our profession
  • Engineering Education Assessment and Research Methodologies : research on, and the development of, the quantitative, qualitative, and/or data scientific aspects of engineering education (i.e., how theories are studied, designed for, and assessed), including assessments, instruments, and protocols

Description of Engineering Education Research Methodologies:  

  • Quantitative Research  emphasizes objective measurements and the statistical, mathematical, or numerical analysis of data.
  • Qualitative Research  seeks to produce in-depth descriptions and interpretations of human behaviors and experiences based primarily on the words of selected individuals (e.g., through interviews) and/or through the interpretation of actions (e.g., observations) or artifacts (e.g., analysis of documents).
  • Mixed Methods Research  is characterized by (among other features) drawing on the strengths of both quantitative and qualitative methods for generating possible solutions or holistic understandings of the problem that may not have been possible using either method by itself.

Description of Engineering Education Graduate Program Focus Areas:

  • Higher Education in Engineering : Research will focus on higher education contexts (e.g., undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty).
  • Engineering Education in PreK-12 : Research will focus on PreK-12 contexts (e.g., students, parents, teachers, administration; formal and informal environments, for- or non-profit). (Note: This focus area does not lead to teacher licensure.)
  • Engineering Industry and Workforce Development : Research will focus on industry and workforce development contexts (e.g., practicing engineers; management; translating among technical content, management, leadership, and andragogy).

The Ph.D. ENED program will prepare graduates for careers: at universities (traditional technical disciplines and/or departments of engineering education); at community colleges; in PreK-12 schools; in for-profit and non-profit organizations (e.g., testing organizations, foundations, governmental agencies); in programmatic roles (e.g., assessment and accreditation coordinators, curriculum designers, policy makers, program officers); as corporate trainers and other workforce development positions; and as directors of teaching/learning centers, diversity programs, or outreach programs.

The Ph.D. ENED program at UC is differentiated from other similar programs in four ways: 

  • The program has a strong emphasis on developing in-depth educational research skills (based on research methodology coursework requirements).
  • The program requires students to advance their level of expertise within their technical engineering discipline.
  • Thee program allows students to choose one of three focus areas depending on their background and goals: higher education in engineering, engineering education in PreK-12 levels (formal and informal environments, for- or non-profit), or engineering industry and workforce development (to the best of our knowledge, workforce development is not an explicit emphasis in any of the existing M.S. or Ph.D. programs at other institutions).
  • The program leverages the strong foundation of experiential learning within the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) by requiring students to complete a reflective experiential activity.

It attracts 15% of total degree-seekers. 61% of classes have an enrollment below thirty students.

Professional Outcomes: By graduation, 70% of Nittany Lions have found their next employment or graduate school home. 98% of College of Business grads are successful within three months of exiting, flocking in large numbers to stellar finance, accounting, consulting, and technology firms. Hundreds of alumni work at Citi, Salesforce, and Meta, and more than 500 currently work at each of IBM, Deloitte, PwC, Amazon, EY, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Google, and Oracle. 75% of 2022 grads employed full-time earned starting salaries greater than $50k.

The greatest number of degrees are conferred in the areas of the social sciences (26%), engineering (14%), business (14%), biology (11%), and psychology (9%).

Professional Outcomes: Nine months after graduation, 94% of the Class of 2022 had launched their careers or entered graduate school. Financial services is the most common sector for Bucknell grads to enter, attracting 24% of alumni. Across all disciplines, the average salary for a Class of 2022 grad was $69,540. Bucknell saw 18% of 2022 grads go directly into an advanced degree program. Bison alumni heading to graduate school predominantly pursue degrees in the medical field, social sciences, business, or engineering.

Fifteen percent of classes have single-digit enrollments, and 55% contain fewer than 30 students. Business and engineering also the most popular majors with a 21% and 18% market share of diplomas, respectively. The next most frequently conferred degrees are in biology (9%), the social sciences (7%), and health professions (7%).

Professional Outcomes: Within six months of graduation, 92% of 2022 grads had already entered the working world or were pursuing a graduate degree. The top employers of newly-minted diploma holders include Michelin, Amazon, Vanguard, and Wells Fargo. Computing and Applied Sciences reported a median starting salary of $62,000. College of Business graduates enjoyed median earnings of $60,000. Of the 19% of recent graduates directly entering grad school, the largest number retained their Tiger stripes by continuing their studies at Clemson.

Academic Highlights: NC State offers more than 100 majors and 120 minors. 64% of sections enroll 29 or fewer students. Engineering is the most popular area of concentration as 24% of Class of 2022 graduates earned a degree in that field. Business/marketing comes in second at 17% followed by biology (10%) and agriculture (7%). NC State has an exceptional regional reputation and an expanding national one with the College of Engineering near the top of many rankings. Programs in design, architecture, and animal science are also very strong.

Professional Outcomes: 54% of students graduating in 2022 had already accepted full-time jobs before exiting; 27% were heading to graduate/professional school. Members of that class reported an average starting salary of $62,024 (with a slightly higher median). Including all graduating years, the companies employing the largest number of alumni are Cisco, Red Hat, SAS, IBM, Lenovo, Amazon, Microsoft, Intel, Google, Deloitte, Facebook, and Salesforce. Many recent grads also work for the university itself and for the Wake County Public School System.

The largest number of degrees are conferred in mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering. In fact, 78% of all earned degrees are classified under the engineering umbrella.

Professional Outcomes: Members of the Class of 2022 landed industry jobs or full-time graduate school positions at a clip of 93%. Companies employing massive numbers of Mines’ grads include Lockheed Martin, BP, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Chevron, and Shell. Those finding employment enjoyed an average starting salary of $81,000. Nineteen percent of freshly printed diploma-holders directly enter graduate school, and the most popular institution is Mines itself, which is the choice of 82% of those pursuing advanced degrees.

The areas of study with the largest number of degrees awarded were biology, the social sciences, psychology, and engineering. Programs in engineering, computer science, and animal science are nationally renowned.

Professional Outcomes: Many recent grads found homes at Silicon Valley or other California-based employers. Corporations employing 200 or more Aggies include Genentech, Google, Apple, Cisco, Meta, Oracle, Amazon, Microsoft, Salesforce, and LinkedIn. Ten years out of school, median earnings rise to $112k. Within one year of graduating, 39% of Aggies elect to continue their education; the most popular degrees pursued are master’s, MDs or other health doctorates, law, and MBA/MPA.

Business is the most commonly conferred degree accounting for 18% of all diplomas earned in 2022. The next most popular areas are biology (14%), engineering (10%), the social sciences (8%), and family & consumer sciences (6%).

Professional Outcomes:  Among 2022 graduates, 87% quickly secured their next job or grad school opportunity. For the 68% who landed their first job, the average salary was $57,489. Overall, 88% of those surveyed stated that this job was related to their career plans. Common employers include Charles Schwab, Deloitte, Fidelity Investments, Lockheed Martin, and the US Air Force. The most popular grad schools include CU Boulder, the University of Michigan, UIUC, and Columbia University.

It makes sense that so many flock to the business and engineering schools as they are among the highest-rated undergraduate programs in their respective disciplines. 40% of sections enroll fewer than 20 students, and approximately 20% of students gain research experience.

Professional Outcomes: Upon receiving their diplomas, 56% of Class of 2022 graduates were entering the world of employment while 17% were already accepted into graduate or professional school.  Hordes of Buckeyes can be found at many of the nation’s leading companies. More than 2,000 alumni work for JPMorgan Chase, more than 1,000 are employed by Amazon, and more than 600 work for Google and Microsoft. Of the grads who directly matriculate into graduate or professional school, many continue in one of OSU’s own programs.

Professional Outcomes: 96% of Class of 2022 grads found their first job or advanced degree program within six months of receiving their diploma. The most commonly entered industries were healthcare (23%), entertainment/the arts (14%), finance and insurance (11%), and marketing/PR (10%). Companies that employ hundreds of alumni include Wells Fargo, Collins Aerospace, Principal Financial Group, Amazon, Accenture, and Microsoft. The median salary for 2022 grads was $50,000. 28% of recent graduates went directly into graduate school; 76% remained at the University of Iowa.

Fifty-two percent of sections contain 19 or fewer students, and just a sliver under 9% of sections contain fifty or more. Looking at the number of degrees conferred by discipline, the big three at Drexel are business (25%), health professions (21%), and engineering (17%). Visual and performing arts (9%), and CS (8%) round out the list of majors with a sizable representation.

Professional Outcomes: One year after graduating, 97%, Dragons have arrived at their next destination; 81% were employed, and 13% had matriculated into graduate or professional school. The largest employers of Drexel alumni are Comcast, Merck, Vanguard, and Johnson & Johnson. The average starting salary for Drexel grads with a full-time job was $64,774. Drexel’s medical school acceptance rate was 60%, roughly 20 points higher than the national average. It offers an accelerated BS/MD program with its own Drexel University College of Medicine.

The Samueli School of Engineering has a solid reputation as does the Bren School, the only independent computer science school in the UC system. Programs in public health and biological sciences earn very high marks.

Professional Outcomes: Accounting, aerospace, internet and software, K-12 education, real estate, and retail are among the industries attracting the greatest number of Anteaters. Companies employing large numbers of recent grads include Boeing, the Walt Disney Company, Google, EY, and Microsoft. Hundreds of alumni are also found at Kaiser Permanente, Meta, Apple, Edwards Lifesciences, and Deloitte. The median salary is $69,000, with CS grads earning close to $120k right off the bat. UCI has a very strong reputation for premed.

Professional Outcomes: Michigan Tech has a stellar 93% placement rate for alumni within six months of earning their diplomas. The median early career salary is $71,100. More than 400 companies attend the school’s career fairs and that leads to a steady flow of graduates heading to companies like Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Cummins Inc., Caterpillar, Stellantis, Dow, Medtronic, Stryker, Amazon, and Magna International.

Professional Outcomes: Within a few months of graduating, 94% of 2022 grads entered full-time employment or full-time graduate or professional school. Engineering, nursing, business, and information sciences majors had 73-86% employment rates while other majors tended to flock to graduate school in large numbers. Employers scooping up the highest number of grads in one recent year included the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (170), PNC (57), BNY Mellon (36), and Deloitte (19). Median starting salaries fluctuated between $37k-65k depending on major.
