500 Words Essay on My Favourite Subject

As a student, everyone excels in some subjects and not in the others. Of course, there are some students who do well in all of them, but that number is low. However, almost every student has a favourite subject. It does not matter if it’s related to academics or arts.

Essay on My Favourite Subject

Personally, my favorite subject is English. I have always scored well on the subject because I understand it well. It makes learning effortless and I always manage to get good marks. There are other subjects I like too but English definitely tops my list. I never get bored of it and am always ready to study it.

Reason For Favouritism

There are many reasons as to why I enjoy studying English. The major one is that it enhances my reading skills. Ever since my childhood, my mother has always read stories to me. So, I developed a habit of reading and listening to stories. As my reading skills get polished through English, it helps me in other subjects too. I grasp the concepts better through reading.

Furthermore, through English, I developed a knack for writing. I absolutely enjoy writing essays and articles. It is only through English, that I started writing my own work. This helps me in forming incredible answers for other subjects as well. It gives me the experience to use accurate words and sentences to convey my message better.

Most importantly, I love fictional stories in English. I love how it always has some lessons in them to learn. They also apply in real life and help me make wise decisions. The stories in English novels and plays always keeps me entertained. It also enhances my imagination powers.

A Scoring Subject

English is definitely a scoring subject which makes it even more special for me. I am an average student who does not take much interest in Science. I manage to get decent marks in the subjects, but in English, I score well. When we compare English to other subjects, we see it is most scoring.

English does not demand word to word answers. It gives the child a chance to play with words. It gives them the creative liberty to speak their minds out. For instance, in Maths, you cannot create your own formulas. You must copy the same exact one taught in the syllabus. But, in English, we can compose our own answers based on our understanding and intelligence.

In addition, English teachers are usually more approachable and understanding. In other subjects, the teachers always have to stick by the book and literally make students mug up the formulas and theories. The English teacher takes time to make them understand each phrase. They allow the students to interpret it as per their intellect. This empowers the child too so they can put their own thinking in it.

In short, I absolutely love English. It gives me the chance to excel without putting too much pressure on me. I get to play with words and form my own interpretations. This helps me get the creative freedom I do not get in other subjects.

Essay on my favourite subject -.

A subject refers to a branch of knowledge or a specific topic studied in school or university. It can be a physical science, such as physics or chemistry, a social science, such as history or economics, or a humanities subject, such as literature or art. A favourite subject is a personal preference, it is the subject that someone particularly enjoys or has a strong interest in, and they might find it more enjoyable or easier to learn. It can be different for each person and can change over time.

100 Words On My Favourite Subject

My favourite subject is English Literature . The power of language has always fascinated me, and the way it can evoke emotions, paint vivid images in my mind, and tell captivating stories. Reading classic works of literature, like Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" and William Shakespeare's "Hamlet," is a window into different cultures and societies. I find it particularly interesting to study the historical and cultural context in which these works were written and to analyse the themes and symbolism used by the authors.

English Literature also allows me to improve my critical thinking skills as I learn to analyse texts and identify patterns. It encourages me to develop my own opinions and interpretations. Studying English Literature has helped me to become a better communicator and to express my ideas more effectively.

200 Words Essay On My Favourite Subject

My favourite subject is mathematics. Mathematics is not just a subject but a tool to understand and solve problems in real life. The subject requires critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity . It is a subject that can be applied to many other fields, such as physics, engineering, and economics.

Why Mathematics Is My Favourite Subject

Mathematics has always been my favourite subject because of its logical approach. I love the way mathematical concepts can be explained in a clear and concise manner, making it easy to understand. The subject also has a wide range of applications and is constantly evolving, providing new challenges and opportunities for learning.

One of my favourite areas in mathematics is calculus, which deals with the study of change. Calculus provides a framework for analysing how things change and how we can understand and predict their behaviour. This is a subject that has revolutionised many fields, from engineering to economics, and has had a profound impact on our understanding of the world around us.

In addition to its practical applications, mathematics is also a beautiful and elegant subject. There is a sense of satisfaction in solving a mathematical problem, especially when it is difficult. I love the way mathematical concepts can be related to each other, providing a deeper understanding and a broader perspective.

500 Words Essay On My Favourite Subject

History is a fascinating subject that has always been my favourite. From learning about the great civilisations of the past to exploring the events that have shaped the world we live in today, I find history to be both captivating and incredibly important.

Why I Love History

I have always been drawn to the stories and personalities of the past. From the bravery of soldiers in battle to the cunning of political leaders, I love learning about how people have interacted with each other and with the world around them throughout history. Additionally, I find it fascinating to see how different cultures and societies have evolved over time and how these changes have shaped the world we live in today.

The Importance and Significance of History

History is much more than just a collection of old stories and dates. By studying our past, we gain a better insight into the world we live in today. Studying history also gives us the opportunity to learn from the failures and successes of the past so that we can shape the future in a more positive direction.

For example, by learning about the causes of past wars and conflicts, we can work to prevent similar events from happening in the future. Similarly, by studying the rise and fall of different civilisations, we can gain insights into how societies can thrive or decline.

History also plays a vital role in shaping our identities and cultural heritage. By learning about our own history and the history of those around us, we can better understand our place in the world and our connection to others.

The Origin of History

The origins of history can be traced back to ancient civilisations, such as the Romans and Greeks, who recorded their own histories in works such as Herodotus' "The Histories" and Livy's "The History of Rome" . These early histories were often written with a political or moral purpose in mind, but they laid the foundation for the more impartial and analytical approach to history that we have today.

Real-Life Applications of History

The study of history has a wide range of real-life applications. For example, it is an essential tool for understanding the political and social issues of our own time. By studying the events and policies of the past, we can gain a better understanding of the complex systems and processes that shape the world we live in.

Additionally, history plays an important role in many fields, such as archaeology, law, and education. For example, archaeologists use history to understand the context and significance of the artefacts they uncover, while lawyers use historical precedent to make decisions in court. Furthermore, history is a vital part of our education system, as it helps us to understand the world we live in and the events that have shaped it.

I believe that history is a subject that is both captivating and incredibly important. From exploring the stories of the past to gaining insights into the world we live in today, the study of history has the power to shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

My Favourite Subject – Essay 2

When I was in standard five, I happened to fail in history in the first unit test, and then daddy began teaching me history. He is a professor of history and is an expert in the subject.

He explained to me the events and incidents given in the textbooks as if they were all interesting stories. I did very well in history as in the next examination.

But more than that, I had developed an abiding love for the subject. From then on, history has always been my favourite subject. I love reading about the Battles of Panipat , about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s victories and the great Indian freedom struggle. The bravery of the Rani of Jhansi fascinates me.

I always in search of books that tell me more about these great people, especially their childhood. There is the story of how Gandhiji refused to copy the word he had mis-spelt.

Or the one about how tilak, in the school he had not thrown peanut shells on the floor. Or the one of how Vallabhbhai Patel took a hot iron to burn a boil under his armpit. These stories show me how brave and truthful these great leaders were, even as children. Many of my friends complain that history is a very dull and hard subject. Thankfully, it isn’t for me. It shall always be my one and only favourite subject.

My Favourite Subject is Maths

Many student fears to Maths subject, I was among them only. Once I failed in the Mathematics, I was depressed. My friends start making fun of me.

I was lucky that my mother was a Maths Teacher, she always prompts me that, Rahul lets ply with maths, but I didn’t take that seriously.

When I told, my mother that I have failed in maths subject, she got shocked. But thankfully, she didn’t shout at me, instead of that she give me an inspirational speech.

Later on she start teaching me Mathematics, she taught me to play with maths and really I enjoyed a lot, from that day Maths became my favourite subject.

I score out of marks in this subject. Now I also teach those friends who really fear to Maths. They have set a mentality of that maths subject is very difficult and it has hell lot of formula to remember.

But my mother taught me maths in fun way; I used that technique to solve the problem. Now I generally search for problem to solve them. From this my confidence level has increase and I’m happy that most difficult subject has become a game for me.

Becoming engineer is my ambition, and in Engineering there are hell lots of complex problem, so I wish it will be easy for me.

My Favourite Subject is Science

My favourite subject in school is Science. It is my favourite subject because I never face any problem while learning it and it came easy to me. I always score good marks in my science test.

According to me, everything that surrounds us is science. Everything that we use someway or somehow is made by science. Science is nothing but discovering something new and then find what it can be capable of and where it can fit in use.

Other subject like mathematics has many formulae and every step in solving problem is done logically. Remembering the formulas and other facts is hard work compared to the ease and simplicity of science. Although it requires a lot of memory work but I never have any difficulty.

While science is simple to me, some of my friends finds it difficult. They often get stuck and give up, so I try to help them out.

The one advantage that I have in being good in science I study regularly and do my homework on time. I prepare some test paper on my own to test my skills. This way I don’t have to spend more time on it and I get enough time to study other subjects as well.

Today science has taken us to a new level, from fast computers to smartphones and it has been a huge breakthrough in science.

Science is both physics and chemistry. In science of chemistry, various elements are discovered and these elements are used in chemical bonding. In physics, there are many discovered laws and properties.

I have come to realize that every person has their own ability. If a person is good in something it is not necessary that he/she would be good in everything. If you’re good in something than don’t make fun others who are not, instead try to help them.

My Favourite Subject is English

English is my favourite subject, because I have never faced any problem to achieve good marks. My teacher Mrs. Leena helps me a lot to improve my grammar.

Earlier, English subject was not my favourite, but once I failed in this subject. I got depressed, but my mother as well as my teacher boost my confidence and help me a lot.

Today I feel English is such a wonderful subject, if you can speak and understand English then you can sustain in any part of the countries.

I feel like gentleman, whenever I speak in English.  One way you can improve your vocabulary, by reading hell lot of good books.

I help my friends when they stuck to any difficulty.  Nowadays I search for good English Novel to read and improve my language.

Really English subject is an easy subject, if you have interest in reading and improving.

250 Words Essay on My Favourite Subject

Every student has a favourite subject that holds a special place in their heart. For me, that subject is Mathematics. It is a subject that is not only intriguing but also provides a platform for critical thinking and problem-solving.

Why Mathematics?

Mathematics, unlike other subjects, is a universal language that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries. It offers a sense of absolute certainty and clarity that is rarely found in other disciplines. The beauty of Mathematics lies in its structure and logic. It is the backbone of many scientific fields like Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering.

The Beauty of Problem-Solving

The thing that fascinates me the most about Mathematics is the process of problem-solving. It’s like a puzzle waiting to be solved, where each step brings you closer to the solution. This process of breaking down complex problems into simpler, more manageable parts enhances my critical thinking and analytical skills. It’s a challenge that keeps my mind engaged and active.

Mathematics in Real Life

Mathematics is not just about numbers and equations; it has practical applications in everyday life. From managing finances to understanding patterns and structures in nature, Mathematics plays a crucial role. It provides a toolset that helps in making informed decisions and logical reasoning.

In conclusion, Mathematics is my favourite subject because it challenges me, keeps me curious, and has real-world applications. It is a subject that encourages logical thinking and problem-solving, skills that are invaluable in today’s world. As I continue my academic journey, I look forward to exploring new mathematical concepts and their applications.

500 Words Essay on My Favourite Subject

My favourite subject is Mathematics, a discipline that many find intimidating, but which I find exhilarating. Mathematics is the universal language that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries, making it a truly global subject. It is the bedrock of many fields such as physics, engineering, and computer science, and it provides a rigorous framework for logical thinking and problem-solving.

The Beauty of Mathematics

The beauty of Mathematics lies in its absolute certainty. In a world full of ambiguities, Mathematics offers definitive answers and clear-cut solutions. It is a subject where precision, logic, and reason hold sway. Every theorem, every equation, and every proof in Mathematics is a testament to the power of human reasoning and the quest for truth.

Mathematics and Problem Solving

Mathematics is not just about numbers and equations; it’s about solving problems, and this is what I find most appealing. It encourages critical thinking and develops the ability to analyse and solve complex problems. The problem-solving skills acquired through Mathematics are highly transferable, with applications in many other academic disciplines and real-world scenarios.

Mathematics and Creativity

Contrary to popular belief, Mathematics is not devoid of creativity. In fact, it is a highly creative field where new concepts and techniques are constantly being developed. The process of proving a theorem or solving a difficult problem often requires innovative thinking and a creative approach. This blend of creativity and logic makes Mathematics a continually evolving and exciting field of study.

Mathematics in Everyday Life

Mathematics is not an abstract subject confined to textbooks; it is deeply rooted in everyday life. From managing personal finances to understanding statistical data in news reports, Mathematics is ubiquitous. It equips us with the tools needed to make sense of the world around us and make informed decisions.

Mathematics and Future Opportunities

In the age of big data and artificial intelligence, Mathematics has become more relevant than ever. It is at the heart of technological advancements and is a key driver of innovation. A strong foundation in Mathematics opens up a wide range of career opportunities in fields such as data science, cryptography, actuarial science, and financial engineering, among others.

In conclusion, my love for Mathematics stems from its logical nature, its problem-solving aspects, its creative potential, its applicability in daily life, and the future opportunities it offers. It is a subject that continually challenges and stimulates the mind, fostering intellectual growth and critical thinking. As the famous mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss rightly said, “Mathematics is the queen of the sciences and number theory is the queen of mathematics.” For me, Mathematics is not just a subject; it’s a way of thinking, a way of life.

My Favourite Subject Essay in English for Class 3 Students

Essay on my favourite subject for class 3 students.

Writing an essay on My Favorite Subject in English helps students from class 3 to express why the subject is close to them and what makes it interesting for them. Here, Vedantu has provided a Short Essay on My Favorite Subject for Class 3 Students so that it becomes easier for them to understand the importance of the subject and compose an essay on a topic of My Favorite Subject.

All students have one favorite subject out of all the different subjects they study at school. For most of the students, English is their favorite subject. English is one of the most interesting subjects. Students from class 3 can learn new words and read so many wonderful stories with English subjects. English not only helps students from class 3 to write better but also teaches them many new lessons.

Essay writing tasks are introduced in the syllabus of junior school so as to improve the English writing skills of young kids. It also helps the kids learn to put their ideas into meaningful sentences and paragraphs. While writing an essay on ‘My Favorite Subject’, kids will be able to communicate what exactly they are interested in when it comes to academics. We at Vedantu have come up with two essays on ‘My Favorite Subject’ that are easy to understand for the kids of class 3.

My Favorite Subject: Mathematics

My favorite subject is Mathematics and Miss Olivera teaches us this subject in school. Our school has given us three books on this subject. One book is for mental math, another book is full of worksheets and the third book has all the chapters explained with example sums.

Of all the subjects, I like doing math homework the most. I like solving the sums on double-digit addition and carry over subtraction. Whenever my mother takes me to the market along with her, I try to add up all the money spent before the shopkeeper makes the bill. Sometimes I can add it faster than the shopkeeper does.

I also like to solve the sums on Time and Calendar. My friends and I make teams and play games on time sums, at school. Another Math chapter that I find very interesting is Metric Measures. I do not like to learn all the conversions in this chapter, but I love to measure the lengths of my play tent and my teddy bear with a ruler. My father asks me to convert the length of my play tent into the other units of length that are given in my Math book. He keeps giving me a new task every day to calculate something.

My father helps me with my mathematics homework on the weekends. He always sets a timer on his mobile phone and asks me to finish all the sums within that time. He takes me out for an ice-cream treat whenever I am able to finish all the sums before the timer goes off. He keeps on telling me that I will be able to do good in Math if I practice more.

My Favorite Subject: English

My favorite subject is English and I love to read the stories in my English book. Miss Stephen is our English teacher at school. Our school follows two textbooks for English of which one is for English Grammar and another is for English Literature. Most of the stories and poems in my English book have interesting pictures illustrating the main plot. These pictures help me to understand the stories even better.

I get to learn many new words from each chapter in my English book. The meanings of the new words in every chapter are always given at the end of it. I find it very interesting to make sentences with every new English word that I learn. Also, our English teacher gives us five new vocabulary words to learn at home, every week. We have to write a spelling test on these vocabulary words, at the beginning of every week. I like to use these new vocabulary words when I write or speak to others in English.

In our school, inter-house competitions are held every month and I always participate in the activity of creative writing. All the stories and poems that I get to learn in the English classes help me perform better in this inter-house activity. My mother always tells me to write simple sentences in English so that the reader can understand my message. I love creative writing tasks as I get an opportunity to explore my imaginations more and to express my thoughts into words.

English is not only a regular subject but it also has a creative side. I like to write and express myself with these writings. English being my favorite subject, I love to read books and write poems and poetries too. This helps me with exploring my skills to write and communicate by learning new words every day through various lessons from the textbook.

One of the main reasons why English is my favorite subject out of all the subjects is because our English teacher is very kind and she teaches us very well. English is a subject that I want to learn more and more about in future.

In English, I not only study grammar but also get to read many different interesting stories and poems. The lessons contained in the English subject have interesting stories and poems that help me improve my reading skills as well as writing skills. When I read these stories and poems from English, I can relate to the characters and love to learn more about them.

Click here to read yesterday’s post about UC Prompt #5.

Prompt #6: Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.

Struggling with writing your college application essay?

Read our Ultimate Guide to Stand Out College Essays to learn the tips and techniques on writing a winning essay and maximize your college admission chances!

This is as straightforward of a prompt as you’re going to get in arguably the entire college application process. There’s no secret interpretation of this prompt; it’s literally just asking you to describe how you came to love and demonstrate your favorite academic subject.

If you had an immediate answer in your head after you read this prompt, this one is a must-write. If this subject is directly related to what you want to major in or your future career path, then this is your opportunity to show the UCs your expertise in this topic. Ideally, it’s a subject that you also excel at in terms of grades and connections with teachers.

Just because the prompt is very straightforward does not mean that your answer should be overly straightforward. Many students fall into the trap of writing something along the lines of, “My favorite subject in school is math, because it’s something I excelled in as a kid and then I continued to have great teachers…”

These are all generalizations about the subject that any student could theoretically say. It doesn’t help admissions officers believe that your interest in the subject is special or worth investing in. In other words, you must provide specific examples that show that you - and only you - have this unique path to why you love this subject.

If you want to give credit to a teacher for steering you to your love of this subject, it’s not enough to just say that you loved that teacher. Tell us what the teacher did specifically or what your relationship was like in detail in order to convince us that this was a special connection.

Moreover, we recommend that you choose a subject that you ideally have some sort of outside-of-the-classroom experience with in order to really stand out amongst your peers. Maybe you were lucky enough to have a related internship, maybe you tutored someone else in this subject, or maybe you started a club dedicated to this subject. Whatever it may be, you need to explain how it furthered your already extensive knowledge of the topic. Universities are looking for students who can take what they learn in the classroom and apply it in the real world.

It’s also great if you include a little bit at the end about how you plan on pursuing this subject in the future . While the prompt doesn’t specifically call for it, it’s always good to remind UCs what you could potentially contribute to their campus.

How you might structure this essay:

An anecdote of a specific instance of you loving the subject, learning a particular topic, or making some intellectual realization

Explain the reason behind why the anecdote is important to your love of the subject

Maybe another anecdote that shows the progression of your relationship with the subject in the classroom

  • I love playing with numbers.
  • I love to do addition and subtraction.
  • When I see numbers anywhere, I love to calculate them.
  • I love to listen to the numbers my mother needs to pay, in the form of money, when we go shopping.
  • I have developed this love for Maths from my mother.
  • She teaches me Maths in a very playful way.
  • Our Maths school teacher is also very helpful.
  • I want to be a great mathematician when I grow up.

Every child has a favourite subject. Let us help your child write a short essay on their favourite subject English:

English is my favourite subject. I love to read stories and poems. When I read, I feel I can see the characters and touch them. I can see the trees, mountains, and valleys and hear the animals and birds in the stories and poems. My favourite subject let me learn the basics of grammar that will help me throughout my life. Reading helps me learn new words every day. I love to write all these words and use them in daily life. I also like to know the spelling of the words and how to pronounce them. I get a lot of freedom to express my imagination with the help of new words.

The curriculum in school plays an essential role in your child’s development. Let us help your child write a beautiful paragraph on their favourite subject, Science. Class 3 students can refer to this to write an essay:

Each of us has a subject that we love the most in school! My favourite subject is Science. I am a curious person who relishes learning about how things happen. Science helps me find those answers in real life. This subject lets us see everything in a very practical way. Science is involved in every activity of nature that happens around us. The leaves sway in the direction in which the wind blows. I find observing these little things very interesting. I can study Science for a long time without getting bored. It is amazing to see the effects of the law of gravity in so many places. For example, when it rains, the raindrops fall from the sky, hit the ground, and do not keep floating in the air. When we throw a ball, it comes down. It happens because of the gravitational force. I think of great scientists whenever I study this subject. We did a science project in school, and I was amazed to learn how life evolved on this planet from a single cell called the amoeba. We did another project where we used a string to outline the cell, and then we stuck different pulses with glue to mark the inside. I love doing science projects we get in school. I look forward to the science class out of all the other classes on my timetable. Our science teacher guides us on how to do these assignments. At home, my mother helps me while I do the projects. My school holds science competitions and quiz contests once every few months. My father is a scientist. I want to be a scientist like him when I grow up because I love science!

When your child writes about their favourite subject, it encourages them to figure out the subject they love among all the subjects that they study in school. It expands their power of imagination and helps them express ideas on paper. This process lays the foundation of grammar and develops their creative writing skills. It also develops their linguistic skills and their vocabulary. Writing about their favourite subject weaves their bond with academics. They realise their love for their best-loved subject even more after writing about it. The act of writing also helps develop your child’s fine motor skills.

We hope the above article will help your little ones to write an amazing essay on their favourite subject. We’ve kept the language simple, and ensured that the concepts discussed are easy enough for your child to grasp. Your kid can take inspiration from the above write-up and pen down their essay on the given topic.

An Essay on My Favourite Subject English [PDF]

English literature is quite popular among the students these days, they love to read, learn, and enhance their knowledge in English. So today we will show you an example essay on my favourite subject English.

english language

English is a language spoken by a large number of people in today’s life after Hindi. It has become the most prominent language to be well-spoken by most of the people for communication.

The English language has always been one of my most favorite subjects, since my childhood due to its purity and creativity. I used to love this subject not only because I attained the highest marks in the whole class but also due to the manner or way in which I spoke in order to communicate with others. It is an interesting subject to know more about it. It is a pleasant subject for studying.

Due to being my favorite subject, I love to read books and write poems and poetries too. This helps me with exploring my skills to write and communicate by learning new words every day. It comes with the benefit of the advancement of vocabulary and grammatical errors with the daily habit of writing.

Sometimes, I face spelling mistakes of some hard words that are difficult to pronunciation, so in that case, I try to recall the spelling of that word into my mind and write it numerous times on a page without seeing it. It provides me with a good formation of sentences in proper form that makes sense when a reader reads it.

English subject is a boon of getting an opportunity in expressing my perceptions and thoughts regarding a particular topic so that I could elaborate in my words using simpler sentences. On a personal note, English is my favorite subject as I can understand it and learn with fewer efforts.

There are a variety of other reasons I have due to which, English has always been my most loved subject as it helps me in improving my reading skills so that I could concentrate on whatever I read. For this, a person needs to polish his or her English as it would help them in grasping the concepts in a much clearer way.

Also, with the help of an English subject, I have built up my flair writing skills as I have adopted the capacity of writing articles and essays.

This is the only thing due to which, I have the dexterity of framing well-liked and good answers with proper grammar and quality words to be used in the construction of the sentences whether I am writing or conveying my message in a much better way.

English teachers are always attempting tasks to help the students in improving their English skills so that they could enhance their usage of words and formation of sentences.

It is a highly scoring subject that even an average student will somehow manage to gain proper marks in it. In comparing other subjects from English, we can rely on it for increasing our percentage.

English is a game of playing with words that gives an opportunity to the students for using various synonyms or replacing the same kind of word in place of the previous word to make the sentence more logical, which tells that it does not really ask for the words to answer.

English subject makes us driven in mind speaking to frame out different sentences composed of your intelligence and understanding. Fiction has always been my favorite genre in English and which is another good reason for English to be my favorite subject.

Every mistake I commit teaches me some important points or lessons that I should keep in mind while I read or write English. Fictional stories are close to my heart as I can frame them easily on my own with delivering quality content for every story.

It is applicable in real life, too in the situations of taking rational decisions. The novels in English have come in various genres written by prominent writers starting from the 18th century and many categories of plays and dramas that bring the sense of entertainment when in reading and advances the mentality thinking with good power to think and imagine things according to whatever you are reading.

Hence, in no doubt, I love English subjects as it an opportunity for me to outshine without trying too much compulsion in using the words to elaborate my thoughts and express them in my interpretations for getting the liberty of creativity in comparison to other subjects.

Now I want to hear from you, how was this essay My Favourite Subject English? Please share your thoughts on the comment section.

UC Essay Prompt 6: Your Favorite Academic Subject

by j9robinson | May 2, 2016

uc essay prompt 6

University of California Personal Insight Question 6:

Brainiacs, nerds, geeks and former slackers—this essay is for you.

UC Essay Prompt 6:6.  Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.

Well, this is probably the most straightforward of the eight Personal Insight Questions (which I call essay prompts) that the University of California admissions has to offer wannabe freshmen for 2016-17.

It’s also your best chance, similar to UC essay prompt 4 , to showcase your passion for learning.

When you read UC essay prompt 6, did an answer pop into your head immediately?

If so, this could be a no-brainer essay for you to write.

You love math. You love history. You love econ. You love art. You love physics. You love English. You love biology.

Now you need to think some more about why you love the one subject so much, and what first got you hooked and why you believe that subject matters in the world.

Then, you need to also explain how you have “furthered this interest inside and/or outside the classroom.”

The UC essay prompt 6 could work perfectly for the student who practically lives in the library studying, gets all the top grades and knows they will major this field in college: This is your chance to tell what inspired you and why you are so driven.

It could also work perfectly the student who wasn’t engaged in school but then had that special teacher who turned her or him onto a subject: This is your chance to tell what hooked you and how you have changed.

uc essay prompt 6

Warning : Even though this prompt seems simple and straightforward, make sure not to fall into the trap of writing too simple of an essay about your favorite subject.

If you start your essay with something like, “My favorite subject is math. I have always been good at it and it comes naturally. I like math because I like to work with numbers….”

…your essay will not help convince UC admissions that you are a stellar, insightful student who is perfect for their university.

Instead of starting with a general statement declaring your love of a subject, try to think of a specific example that can show or demonstrate WHY you are inspired by this subject. (Or what first inspired you)

That will give your essay a more interesting start and set you up to say something more meaningful about it.

Look for experiences you had with that subject that either got you hooked on it, or you found difficult at first but then you loved the challenge.

These experiences did not have to occur inside the classroom, although that’s fine, too. Brainstorm other activities that were related to your favorite subject, and start with one of those.

Then, look for ways your related experience “influenced” or changed how you think about the subject and other parts of your life or world, or what you learned.

Here’s a Sample Outline for UC Essay Prompt 6

  • Start with a real-life example that shows how this subject inspires you. It’s best if something happened during that example to make it interesting to read about. Then explain what first hooked you, and why you believe you love it so much. (A paragraph or two.)
  • Explain how this favorite subject has changed how you think about yourself, and what you hope to do or study in the future. Share how it has changed you in any way, and why that matters. End by stating what you envision yourself doing with favorite subject in college and beyond. (A paragraph or two)

Here are some additional ideas that the UC admissions provided to help you brainstorm for UC Essay Prompt 6:

Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had inside and outside the classroom — such as volunteer work, summer programs, participation in student organizations and/or activities — and what you have gained from your involvement.

Has your interest in the subject influenced you in choosing a major and/or career? Have you been able to pursue coursework at a higher level in this subject (honors, AP, IB, college or university work)?

The UC also provided this idea to help you brainstorm UC Essay Prompt 6 in the Personal Insight Questions: Freshman Guide :

Think about all of your classes. Now fill in the blank: I would go to [class name] even if I didn’t have to. It doesn’t have to be a class in which you’ve earned good grades – the important thing is you enjoyed the subject and it impacted you in some way.

This short presentation can help you learn  How to Write a Short Essay , such as these short UC essays that need to be fewer than 350 words each.

UC Essay Prompt 7: Volunteer Your Best Story

Do you suggest writing to this prompt even if the subject you intend to write about does not “match” with your intended major? i.e. I’ve always loved history but I want to go to medical school because I think I can make more of a difference that way.

j9robinson

Hi Manar, Again, great question. It’s always helpful when your interests or favorite subjects or any of the topics for these Personal Insight Questions lines up and supports your field of interest. However, don’t force it. Stick with the truth. If your favorite subject is history, write about it. Chances are when you think about it more, you will see that it does line up with your future goals. In the case of medical school, could it be that your interest in history is what helped you develop your desire to “make more of a difference” in the world? Good luck! JR

Kim

Is it acceptable to talk specifically about your favorite class as well as the teacher? Or is it recommended to write about your favorite subject in general?

Hi Kim, I would think it’s fine to mention your teacher of your favorite class, or anything else related to why it was your favorite. All the questions in the prompt and freshman worksheet are intended to give you ideas on how to answer these Personal Insight Questions. There are no rules. Basically, do you best to answer the question(s) and support your ideas and points with specific examples. Good luck! JR

Diego

Hi, my question is general for an essay related to describing your favorite subject (i.e. I’m not applying to any UCs). It actually is about Common App Essay Prompt 1 (interest, background). Do you think that writing about the subject is a good idea? I mean, they know (or suppose) I like it because of my grades, SAT scores, etc. Is it worth using the essay to explain them how much I love Physics or Math? Also, should I write about both Math and Physics or should I just focus on one? I ask about it because I really, really love them and I’m not sure which one of them to choose. Thank you.

Brian

Thanks for all these helpful articles. I’m also thinking about doing prompt 6. If the educational opportunity I plan to write about for prompt 4 overlaps with prompt 6, should I write about the subject for prompt 6 or just pick another subject? The subject (computer science) is what I plan to major in.

Essay 1 (250 Words) – My Favourite Subject: English

Introduction

There are many subjects we study in our school curriculum but every student has an interest in studying and exploring a particular subject.

My favorite subject among all subjects is English. When I was studying in the primary section then only I loved to study English, as the book was filled up with different interesting stories. We had two books of English up to class 8th. Further, we had one book containing drama. We have separate teachers for teaching us grammar and literature. I eagerly wait for the period of English.

Why English is my Favourite Subject?

The subject of English helps me in increasing my vocabulary and reading capability. I am fond of reading stories and poems and later on, I use to write it all in my own words. We also have our assignments. We have to perform skits or presentations on the provided topic. I choose to perform a skit and always did the role of the narrator. English is a subject that helps me in improving my writing skills. I wrote many small stories based on my imagination and my story was published in our school library collection. My love for this subject gave me good English speaking ability.

In the future, I want to become a professor of English in any of the central universities. For this, I have to reveal this subject from every angle. The literature part of English is my priority. I can deliver good speeches on any occasion in my school because of my love for this subject.

The subject of English is helping in personality development and enhancing the communication skills of an individual. I love this subject as it is simple and helps us in getting good job opportunities.

Essay 2 (400 Words) – My Favourite Subject: History

As a student, we have many subjects to study. The subject which I love to study and find the most interesting is History. So I can say that history is my favorite subject. I always score good marks in this subject.

My Views for Choosing History as my Favourite Subject

According to me, history is a subject that gives us an idea about our past, revolutions that took place, and important events. It would help me in ending my curiosity to know about many things and at the same time would increase my curiosity to know more.

The teaching style of my History teacher is brilliant. She teaches us by connecting each and every event. She makes a flow chart on board and further explained each event in the form of a story. This has made the study easier and interesting. I can remember each and every event date-wise. This is one of the reasons why I started developing an interest in the subject. I also have the aim of qualifying for Union Public Service Commission exams and history would be helping me a lot in updating me with several historical facts and events.

Specialty of This Subject

This subject provides us with inspiring stories of great leaders of our nation and world. We can know about the story of the great warriors, kings, and their dynasties. History helps us to know our evolution.

There are several things we can learn from our past. We can deduce an idea after going through the life history of successful people, that what things we should do and what not to get success in our life. We have come to know about the existence of several civilizations from history only. History reveals our culture and heritage. I love traveling to different places and learn about historical monuments. Many times we had a study tour from our school side and my teacher would take us to the places having their historical importance.

I was much interested in knowing about what had happened in our past, how people led their lives earlier, what tools and devices they used, how they traveled, and many more questions. I am able to know about the story of the freedom fighters and their involvement in making our country an independent nation. There are many branches of History but I love reading ancient history. It gives knowledge about the Vedas and great epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata.

I love History as my favorite subject. I am having an interest in revealing and understanding the happenings which took place in the past. I also have a good collection of books related to the subject of History.

Essay 3 (500 – 600 Words) – My Favourite Subject: Science

We have to study different subjects when we are in school and college. It happens that we perform well in many subjects but each one of us has a liking for any one subject. This also helps us in making our way clear to achieve our aim.

My favorite subject is Science. I especially love the Biology and Physics branches of science. I have a great liking for this subject. During school hours I wish that all seven periods would continue with the same subject. I may skip other periods but never miss my science classes. I love to do practicals related to the subject. Understanding any concept or process by practical approach is the best thing I love about science subjects. Everything has a proper logic behind it.

Science as My Passion

Since my father also had a great interest in the subject of science, he taught me to observe things and different phenomenon in our surroundings. When I started studying science I was fond of this subject. The subject is full of innovation and experiential learning. There are reasons which make this subject an interesting one.

Science is a subject which explains the different activities taking place. Science is involved in each and everything we do. It is a subject that does not require rote learning but grasping the concept. Every phenomenon which is happening has a reason behind it; science is providing an explanation to it. I am very keen to find about various diseases in humans and animals and their causal agents. I love practically observing any phenomenon or process.

Different science quiz competitions and debates were organized by our school. I always participate in the competition but could not win every time. We also have a science exhibition on our school campus. Many times I have been rewarded for the best project award. I used to score the highest marks in science from the 5 th class onwards.

Science – My Favourite Subject

  • Science is a subject that is full of interest, fun, and logic.
  • It requires practical work along with theoretical knowledge to know better about any topic or activity.
  • Science is included in our daily activities.
  • Science helps me in understanding the environment and letting us know about its existence and working.
  • Science has the capacity to give solutions to different problems.
  • Science develops in us the capability of critical thinking which in turn enhances the understanding power of any individual.
  • Since I want to become a doctor in the future so according to my perspective science has contributed a lot in the medical field, and is regularly thriving for better results.
  • I am a person with immense curiosity to find out the reason behind any process or work. The process is connected with the concept which lies in science. I could not simply accept the things in the way they are presented but is eager to know why the same is happening. This made me develop an attraction to science.

Nowadays we could see various problems related to climate, health, and pollution are becoming a serious issue. The solution to these problems could be only possible by the regular researches and discoveries made in the field of science.

All subjects are store-house of knowledge. The subject we like to study and know about it becomes our favorite. We love to find out more related to that particular field. Science is a subject that is based on logic. We need to carry on experimentation to get an inference. I love studying this subject. I find difficulty in simply learning about anything but understanding and getting the concept is easy for me and hence science is my favorite subject.

How to Write the Academic Subject UC Essay

This article was written based on the information and opinions presented by Vinay Bhaskara in a CollegeVine livestream. You can watch the full livestream for more info.

What’s Covered:

Choose your academic subject strategically, how to structure your essay, focus on the process over accomplishments, notice overlaps with other essays.

The sixth University of California personal insight question (PIQ) asks students to respond to the following prompt:

Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom. (350 words)

In this article, we will discuss choosing your academic subject, structuring your essay, and strategies to avoid common pitfalls.

For more information on University of California’s other supplemental essays and writing dos and don’ts, check out our posts on how to write University of California essays and on great University of California essay examples

Think Beyond the “Headline Subject”

The first step when approaching this essay is to choose an academic subject to write about. Instead of choosing a more general “headline subject,” like physics, history or calculus, try to dig deeper and select a more nuanced, specific topic within a discipline.

Doing this allows you to show off that you are genuinely passionate about the subject you choose, and that you truly know it. This will help you stand out among the students who chose more general, common academic subject essays.

For example, if economics is the headline subject that you are interested in, you could explore sub-disciplines like econometrics, which is a mixture of economics and statistics, or monetary policy, which focuses on how the federal reserve affects the economy. To go even deeper, you could write about a hyper-specific concept like Okun’s Law, which explains the relationship between unemployment and economic growth.

Connect It to Your Intended Major

As you consider topics, keep in mind that the academic subject you choose should align with your intended major.

While the topic does not have to be exactly the same as your intended major, it should connect in some way. For example, if you are applying as an engineering major, writing about a science or math subject will be beneficial to your application.

This essay is a great opportunity to elaborate on your intellectual interests and passions, and by doing so you help the admissions committee understand the type of person and student you are.

Discuss Why You Find the Subject Interesting

After you choose your academic subject, the next step is to determine the structure of your essay. It is important to discuss why you find that subject appealing and interesting, and the steps you have taken to learn more about it.

Let’s continue using economics as an example. If you decide to write about Okun’s Law, you could write a story about how you became interested in learning more about it. Maybe your excitement about Okun’s Law took you down a road of discovery where you found some economics blogs that you really liked, which in turn crystallized your passion for economics and ultimately led to your habit of reading economic news for an hour each day.

An essay like that is much stronger than a simple response, such as, “I like economics, and I’ve studied it by looking at blogs.” While both essays have the same ultimate endpoint and share that you have independently studied economics through blogs, the example above approaches this prompt in a much more interesting and memorable way.

Think Outside the Classroom

Often, the best essays for this prompt tend to focus on things that students do outside the classroom, as opposed to inside the classroom.

While the prompt states that you can write about either, essays about exploring academic topics inside the classroom are most common. Choosing to write about how you have pursued your academic interest outside of the classroom can help your essay stand out and keep readers engaged. It also highlights how you take the initiative to learn more about, and be involved with, your academic passions outside of the classroom. Admissions officers are always looking for students with the drive and desire to learn new things, so this is a great opportunity for you to showcase this side of yourself.

Keep It Interesting

Because this prompt is so academically focused, students can sometimes end up writing essays that are too academic or dry by focusing on the concepts too heavily or relying on complex jargon.

While it is helpful to include details that demonstrate your knowledge of a subject and keep your reader engaged, it is most important to focus on why you enjoy the subject and how it impacts your personality or mindset.

A common pitfall with this essay prompt is for students to talk mostly about their accomplishments related to a particular academic subject, like getting a strong grade in a class or winning an academic competition.

While this information can be useful, it highlights an outcome rather than showing the reader what you actually did to develop your expertise in that subject.

Instead, it is better to focus on the process by which you pursue the subject, learn more about it, and explore your passion and your interests.

This PIQ prompt shares some similarities with other college essays, including Common App Prompt #6 , which reads “Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?”

While these two essays are similar, they are not exactly the same. If you choose to reuse part or all of a Common App Prompt #6 essay for PIQ #6, make sure to adjust it accordingly so that your essay still authentically responds to the prompt.

My Favourite Subject Essay 1 (200 words)

General Knowledge is and has always been my favourite subject. It was introduced to us in grade I and since then I have loved it. During grade I, we were taught common general knowledge things such as names of monuments, recognition of sports people and celebrities, recognition of country flags and the likes. I found it very interesting as I got to learn many new and interesting things.

I always looked forward to the general knowledge class in the school. As I grew up and went to higher classes, I did not only study the general knowledge books prescribed by the school but also borrowed such books from the library to expand my knowledge. Looking at my interest in the subject my father decided to subscribe to a monthly general knowledge magazine. I eagerly waited for it every month and finished reading the entire magazine in around three days.

I earn appreciation for my knowledge in this subject at school, home as well as in my friend circle. This inspires me to read and learn all the more. My teachers always recommended my name for GK quiz competitions. I have taken part in many such competitions and have also won many prizes for my school.

My Favourite Subject Essay 2 (300 words)

Introduction.

Ever since I was a pre-primary student, I loved drawing. I just loved drawing different things and colouring them. I always looked forward to the drawing class in school. It was my favourite part of the day. I also indulged in drawing as I came back from school. My parents bought me different types of colours including pencil colours, crayons and water colours.

My Love for Drawing

It was actually my mother who encouraged me to draw and colour. She tried to do so to distract me from watching television as she indulged in household tasks. However, drawing eventually became my favourite subject. I tried to draw different sceneries and other stuff and coloured them diligently. My mother soon enrolled me for drawing classes to hone my skills. I learned to draw a lot of new things in my drawing class. My drawing teacher also taught me different colouring techniques. It was quite fun. I went to the drawing classes for almost two years regularly. Even now that I am in V standard, I still join art and craft classes during my vacations. I have also leaned sketching and glass painting.

Environmental Studies – Another Favourite Subject

As I was promoted to standard I, few new subjects were introduced and environmental study was one of them. Apart from drawing, I also love environmental studies. This is because it gives knowledge about so many things happening around us. We learn about plants, animals, air, water and so much more by way of this subject. The facts learned in this subject can be applied in real life and that is what I like the most about it. We also require drawing diagrams in this subject and this is also one of the reasons it is one of my favourite subjects.

While drawing is my favourite subject, environmental studies comes a close second. Both the subjects are close to my heart and I can never get bored practicing any of these.

My Favourite Subject Essay 3 (400 words)

I am quite picky about a lot of things in life including friends, food and activities. Most people around me find my choices quite different and unique. My choice when it comes to subjects is also quite different. The subject that most students find boring seems quite interesting to me. I just love History. It is my favourite subject.

History – The Most Interesting Subject

People often laugh at me and question me about my choice when I tell them that History is my favourite subject. I, however, wonder why students don’t like such an interesting subject. History takes us to different eras and places and we learn so much from it. It is almost like time travelling for me. It associates us with our roots and gives more meaning to our life. I find it all very fascinating.

I love reading about the different kings and queens and how they managed the common people. Many of the kings in the history of India have been harsh on the commoners while there have also been some who have been very kind to them. They helped raise the standard of living of the people living under them. Besides, the chapters included in the syllabus I try to look for books on different events that took place in the history to learn and explore more about the same.

I have read in depth about how the British invaded our country and the way they began ruling it. These real life stories are far more intriguing than any of the works of fiction.

Another topic that I find interesting in this subject is the position of women in different eras and various dynasties. Women had to face a lot of injustice in the past. They were mostly confined to the household tasks and were not allowed to work outside. Their whole and sole duty was to serve their family by carrying out the household chores. They did not have the right to question or go against the will of the man of the house. Another disturbing fact was that the kings were allowed to marry as many times as they wanted and be in a relationship with all their wives simultaneously while queens were expected to be true to their husbands. It shows that we have come a long way since that time when it comes to gender equality.

I have always been fascinated by historical facts and monuments. Not just the Indian history, I love reading about the history of various countries.

My Favourite Subject Essay 4 (500 words)

My favourite subject is English. I feel that, this is one subject that I can learn effortlessly. In fact, to me studying English does not feel like studying at all, it seems like pursuing a hobby. I also love geography and computer science and look forward to studying them. However, English has always been on the top of my list. I can study the English chapters anytime and anywhere.

Why is English My Favourite Subject?

One of the main reasons why I love English is that I like reading fiction and this subject gives me a chance to read a lot. My mother always told me a bed time story when I was a small kid. She soon brought books for me to read on my own. We made it a habit to read at the bed time before falling asleep. She read some novel or magazine for around half an hour and I read story books. I also developed the habit of reading all the chapters from my text books even before they were done in the class and still do the same. This helps me grasp better when those chapters are done in the class.

I also have flair in writing. It comes naturally to me and English is all about writing essays, articles, letters, long and short answers and other similar pieces. This is another reason why English has always been a hot favourite subject of mine.

Scoring High is a Breeze

I am an average student in my class. I score around 70% marks in my exams on an average. However, when it comes to English, I am the one who scores the highest. I score higher than even the brightest of students in the class. I leave behind the top rank holders too when it comes to this subject. Many of them even come to me to understand the subject better. This makes me proud of my skills in this subject. It is also a motivating factor for me. I try to enhance my skills even further. Be it English grammar or essay/ article writing or the question answers section in the exam – I am equally good in answering all these.

I believe it is all about ones interest. If something interests us, we put our entire mind and soul into it. The results then are bound to be excellent. This is the reason why I am able to score so well in English.

My English Teacher – My Inspiration

My English teachers have also been amazing so far. I am particularly fond of my current English teacher. She has in-depth knowledge about the subject. Besides, teaching us lessons included in the syllabus she also encourages us to read novels and short stories to improve our English. As reading interests me, I often seek her suggestion on which books to read. She is my role model and I aspire to be as good in the subject as her.

I aim to excel in English language and become a proficient writer in the subject as I grow up. I have discussed this plan with my parents and they completely support me in this direction.

My Favourite Subject Essay 5 (600 words)

Our interests keep changing from time to time. Be it our favourite colour, favourite food item, favourite person or favourite game – everything changes as we grow up and favourite subject is no exception. Many students love certain subjects in their primary classes but completely despise those subjects as they begin to get tougher year after year. My experience has been quite similar. I have also had a shift in interest and my favourite subject has changed with time.

Mathematics – My Favourite Subject

I have been a big fan of mathematics right from the time numbers were introduced to us in nursery. While my teacher had taught numbers up to 10, I learned counting up to 50 with the help of my mother. I was so curious and keen on learning this subject that I soon began learning addition. My mother introduced fun ways of learning addition by the use of different things such as spoons, oranges, soft toys. I also learned subtraction using such innovative methods.

Looking at my interest in the subject, my mother soon made me join abacus class. I also accompanied her to the toy shop to get an abacus for myself. I simply loved doing calculations using this ancient method of learning maths. Joining abacus helped me enhance my knowledge about the subject. It laid a strong base for me and I performed extremely well in the subject. I scored high in maths. Most of the times, I got full marks in it.

I practiced the problem sums quite often. Whenever I was asked to study, I opened my mathematics book and began solving the sums. I cleared the maths Olympiad with good score. I was also sent for quite a few inter-school maths competitions. Many of my classmates came to me seek help in the subject. Many still come to me to learn different topics. I help them with the subject whenever they need any kind of assistance.

My Love for French

While I am still good in mathematics and my name is recommended for various mathematics competitions, I personally have grown fond of French ever since I have entered sixth standard. We had an option of choosing between Sanskrit and French as a third subject in grade sixth and I decided to go for French. While my parents insisted that I should take up Sanskrit as my mother is well versed with the subject and could help me with it, I convinced them otherwise. Though, they did not like the idea initially however they realized I took the right decision after I started scoring high in the subject. I was always keen on learning foreign language. It was something new and fresh and thus I was interested in it.

My interest in the subject keeps me glued to it. Besides, since I took it up against the wish of my parents, I learn it with all the more zeal to prove to them that my decision was right. My French teacher is quite helpful and supportive. Her method of teaching is quite innovative. She makes us understand this new language with ease. She has made learning so much fun and interesting. I always look forward to the French class. Me and my friends also try to use the sentences we have learned as we converse with each other. I have also started following French artists and listening to French songs.

French has certainly become my favourite subject and mathematics is my second favourite subject now. I am planning to leave Hindi and take up French when the option to choose between the two is given in the ninth standard. I might even take it up as a main subject during graduation.

Long Essay on my Favourite Subject – Essay 6 (800 Words)

Science is one of my favourite subjects in school; in fact, it is the most favourite subject of mine. Logic makes science interesting and the fact that a principle of science applies to our everyday activities, makes it more interesting. Early morning dew drops over flowers, is science; the flying of birds is science; flowing of water in our taps is science; boiling of rice is a science; the running of electric motor and the occurrence of dawn and dusk, all have a scientific principle working from behind. You might not notice or could be oblivious of its presence, but science is always there in the things you do or witness.

What is Science?

Science is a systematic study of observing, analyzing, recording and finding logical justification for an event or activity. Science provides a logical explanation to every incident from – pricking of skin and feeling of pain to the Landing of space ship on moon.

One of the most interesting facts about science is that, it is in a continuous process of development and there seem to be no end to it. Scientific principles have come a long way from Stone Age to today’s modern world equipped with jets and satellites. This development, however, has been made possible only by humans and their curiosity to explore. Man’s desire to find out reason and improve his surroundings, has led to scientific and technological developments that we see today and the exploration still continues.

Modern science of today as we know is divided into three branches. Firstly, natural science consisting of physics, chemistry and biology; secondly, formal science, consisting of logic and mathematics and thirdly, social sciences consisting of economics, psychology and sociology.

Advantages of Science

The advantages of science are so many that it isn’t able to mention all of them in this article. We will go through some of the basic advantages of science in our daily life. Science has made our living easy, comfortable and secured.

Today we live in houses with all the comforts which have been made possible only due to thousands of years of scientific research and development. Science has made it possible for humans to instantly communicate even when separated by thousands of miles. Today it is possible to travel thousands of miles in just couple of hours; which has been made possible only through science and its development.

All the modern equipments one can’t part with like – mobile phones, computers, laptops, bike etc, have been created applying very basic principles of science and further developing the idea.

Science has also made our life more secure both from natural calamities as well as from diseases. Today we know beforehand when a storm is going to arrive or have the prior information of an oncoming natural calamity. This has been made possible only by advancements in earth and climatic sciences.

Similarly, advancement in medical sciences has led to invention of life saving drugs and vaccines against diseases like cholera, malaria and diarrhea etc. Today life expectancy is increased as never before; thanks to the advancement in medical sciences.

Disadvantages of Science

Despite having numerous advantages, there are also some disadvantages of science. The most common disadvantages of science are over dependence and irresponsible handling. Today we depend so much on our scientific gadgets and technology that it is impossible to live a day without them. Over dependence has made us lethargic and lazy. We resist walking for even few miles and rather prefer to take a cab. Science and technology has invaded our everyday life up to dangerous level and made us victims of lifestyle diseases like diabetes and blood pressure.

You must have heard the phrase “curiosity killed the cat”. It fits extremely well in the scenario of science and human’s curiosity to explore it. History is replete with many scientific experiments which took potentially dangerous turn for ex – project MKUltra one of the CIA’s most shocking programs of all times killing nearly 10000 Americans and the Trinity test, a detonation of first ever nuclear bomb in the desert of New Mexico on 16 th July 1945.

Nazis carried out medical experiments on thousands of prisoners, grossly neglecting human life and dignity. Prisoners were injected with deadly viruses and poisonous substances and were made human guinea pigs. But, despite the fatal consequences man’s quest for experiments and explanations continued.

Science is an absolute necessity and its principles are applied in almost all of our everyday activities and gadgets, devices or instruments we use. Advancement in science is also unavoidable, but care must be taken in order to not cause harm or injury to humans or any other living being. Carelessly and abruptly executed scientific experiments could have fatal consequences and history has hundreds of such incidents to retrospect. Such experiments must be carried under the supervision of a trained scientific or instructor.

Sample Responses for “Describe Your Favorite Subject in School”

“I’ve taken a lot of subjects in school, but I have to say, history was my favorite subject. I’ve realized how vital it is for us to understand our past in order to construct a better future. I was so enthralled by my experience of reading and learning history that it became my university major. Learning about the past provides us with important information about our country, our heritage, the world we live in, and the human race as a whole.

When I was in seventh grade, I decided to take history seriously for the first time. I became really engrossed in it that I started reading history books by various authors. I learned about the ancient world, how social and economic situations were at the time, and how events throughout history influenced the world. I had the chance to apply what I learned from my history textbooks, which was not the case for a few other courses we were studying at the time. I developed an odd love for it and attempted to study as many history books as I could at the time, which is a bit surprising because the majority of my classmates at the time found the subject too difficult.

After I graduated from high school, I decided to major in history, which has tremendously shaped the way I view the world, as well as the past and future. Reading and studying history was like taking a journey through time and generations, which piqued my interest. And to tell you the truth, it still does. It’s still something I love to learn and know more about.”

Follow-up Question 1:

Do you think teachers play a major role for a student to like a subject?

“In a way, yes. I think that students would be more interested to learn a subject if they like the teacher or the professor. However, there are those students who are really interested in a subject or course regardless of whether they like or dislike the teachers.”

Follow-up Question 2:

What does the phrase ‘History repeats itself ’ mean to you?

“For me, it means that we should learn from our mistakes or those that are committed by others, especially those that have happened in the past. Otherwise, we might be committing the same mistakes and go to show that we did not learn at all. That is one of the main reasons why I am interested in history.”

“I’ve always considered Math as my favorite subject in school, and my love for it has greatly aided me in better understanding other science-related courses. I recently earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science, and I couldn’t have been a successful programmer without a strong grasp of mathematics and a passion for it. Statistics, algorithms, data structures, and programming are difficult to learn without a solid understanding of mathematics.

My father works as an architect; and seeing him work, I’ve always been fascinated by his interest in mathematics and architecture. He had a noteworthy impact on the expansion of my mathematical interests. He meticulously explained mathematical concepts, their applications, and practical ramifications to me, and as a result, I began to enjoy this topic from a young age. During my scholastic years, I was fortunate to have some excellent teachers who also served as a source of encouragement for me to excel in mathematics.

I was able to tackle math problems since I had a strong foundation in the subject. My class professors frequently requested me to explain a math problem to them. This increased my self-confidence, and by high school, I was convinced that I could solve any arithmetic problem in our textbooks. As you may be aware, young people frequently enjoy the subject in which they excel and devote more time to reading and studying it. This was also true for me, and math was always my favorite subject throughout my academic career.”

Why do you think is Math considered a difficult subject by many?

“That is actually an interesting question, especially for someone who loves Math. I think it is because it involves a lot of complicated theories that need to be applied. In addition, there are some teachers who cannot simplify complex explanations, and thus, students are lost.”

How important is Math in our everyday life?

“I think having knowledge in Math is highly essential. We wake up in the morning and estimate the amount of time to get ready for work, and we use basic knowledge in Math. We take the subway or buy breakfast at a local diner, and we use Math as well. We may not need those complicated theories in our everyday life, but we definitely need the basic ones.”

Below are some words from the sample responses for the cue card topic ‘ Describe your favorite subject in school.’ with their definitions and example sentences to guide you.
