Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Classes Sample Answer One for IELTS Writing Task 2

Online teaching and learning have grown in popularity among students in recent times, and this is viewed differently by different learners. Many students see this as a helpful learning tool, although others believe it is not as successful as classroom instruction. This article would explore the benefits and drawbacks of digital education.

Advantages of Online Classes Essay

Students who study online have more flexibility in their schedules and spend less money on their education. They will study their desired courses and subjects at their own pace. This is a fantastic opportunity for learners to learn new skills and expand their experience while remaining in the comfort of their own home. For example, a Nepali student seeking an Australian degree in business administration does not need to travel to Australia; he can train and complete the course while remaining at home. As a result, distance learning is both cost-effective and time-efficient.

Disadvantages of Studying Online

That being said, online classes offer more emphasis on the analytical aspect of learning and there is less instructor and student contact. It ignores realistic learning elements and encourages passive learning. It is clear that students perceive it to be less successful than classroom instruction. According to a new survey, a larger percentage of students considered classroom instruction to be much more successful than digital education.

Conclusion: Merits and Demerits of Online Teaching

In conclusion, the ever-increasing availability of digital education has gained traction among young adults for many years and is viewed as helpful by many and less successful by others. The focus should be placed on its efficacy in order to identify it as the most cost-effective learning method other than classroom instruction.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Classes Sample Answer Two for IELTS Writing Task 2

Recently, the course has grown in popularity, resulting in more excellent learning options for students. While this movement may have some benefits, it may also have some risks and challenges as a result. Both sides of learning will be addressed in more detail in the following chapters. On the one hand, distance education has certain benefits. For starters, the simplicity of distance learning is essential.

There is no time constraint and the online classroom and teacher are (theoretically) accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As a result, students will stick to their schedules without impacting their learning outcomes.

Second, the advantage of learning is that it saves resources. Tuition at online schools is often smaller than at conventional universities. Building repairs, grounds maintenance, food service, class accessories, and other expenses that impact the cost of credits are not needed.

Learners, on the other hand, may suffer from a number of disadvantages of simulated learning. To continue, students can encounter technical issues, which can have a variety of implications.

Furthermore, some students are not equipped with the good internet access that online courses necessitate, and therefore fall behind their simulated classmates: poor monitors find it difficult to obey the course Management.

The system, as well as their learning process, becomes troublesome. Another downside to digital education is the scarcity of accreditation and the poor standard of instruction. The growing demand for digital education has resulted in an uncontrollable proliferation of colleges, including some unregulated schools, and there is no way to check the content of all courses. As a consequence, illegal organisations can con several students out of money.

Finally, online education can be helpful in terms of scheduling flexibility and reduced tuition. However, immersive learning has some drawbacks, including poor student conditions and a lack of quality control over classes.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Classes Sample Answer Three for IELTS Writing Task 2

These days, online learning is becoming increasingly popular. Many conventional colleges began to make their classes available for free. It represents a simple and convenient way to gain expertise in almost any area, from law and accounting to social sciences such as sociology, anthropology, and history. Digital education is a fantastic alternative to conventional universities, particularly for people who do not have the time or resources to attend traditional universities. So what are the benefits and drawbacks of online learning?

While many people still believe that traditional colleges are the only way to gain expertise and obtain a diploma, digital education has proven to be an excellent option. Students should study on their own time, and particularly for free. It is an excellent way to learn a variety of subjects while still increasing self-motivation. Online learning is so successful because students can complete their assignments easily, leaving more time for hobbies or job search.

Access to all of the opportunities of a typical course allows learners to practise wherever they are, giving them the opportunity to prepare wherever they choose. An individual may attend various courses with only an Internet connection. Students’ accountability and self-discipline are among the benefits of digital learning.

Limitations of Online Learning

An individual can only learn properly in a small group. Learners learn at school how to make new friends, be polite, deal with failure, and, most importantly, compete. Competition among colleagues can be very exciting, and students can learn greatly from it. Human contact is not possible for digital learning.

Another drawback is that online classes cannot handle the thousands of students who attempt to participate in debates. Furthermore, if digital education is intended for disciplines that need preparation, it can be challenging.

Conclusion of Studying Online

Finally, digital education can be seen as a supplement to and expansion to traditional ways of learning. Even the best online course cannot completely substitute physical interaction with an instructor or the human connections formed in a group. As a result, standard classes can not be replaced by digital learning.

Any essay can be satisfactory if addressed correctly. It is critical to remember in IELTS writing that each type of essay necessitates a different approach. In the case of an ‘advantage and disadvantage’ essay, a mixture of solid structure and appropriate data is a game-changer. As a result, in order to achieve a 9 band in your exam, you must devote some time to planning and structuring your essay.

IELTS Task 2 Writing – Online Education – Band 9

IELTS Task 2 Writing

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Online education is rapidly increasing in popularity. What has led to this development? What are the advantages and disadvantages of online learning compared to in-class instructions? Provide examples and explanations.

Learning via the internet is quickly becoming mainstream among pupils. What are the motivating factors behind this change? What are the positives and negatives of remote learning versus in-person study? Give examples and explanations.

Write at least 250 words.

*When you are practicing Task 2 at home, your planning, and developing ideas should take 20 – 30 minutes, and you should write it all down!

*During your official exam, your Task 2 planning MUST not take more than 5 minutes, you should only write down the paraphrase of the question and your thesis.

TOPIC = Online education

Controlling Idea(s) = reasons for its popularity and the advantages and disadvantages

*Third person essay

What is online education?

Remote learning through the use of computers and the internet whereby students and teachers are separated by space and/or time.

Why is online education popular? (What are the advantages of online learning?)

It is more accessible (no restrictions of distance or boarders), convenient (less time, no commute), diverse (for teachers and content), affordable.

How does it work?

Through the use of a computer and the internet; software, video, audio, camera, mic.

Why can online educations be disadvantageous compared to in-class learning?

Distractions (less focused), technical problems, lower quality of socialization with peers and teachers, lack of physical movement.

(***What has accelerated online learning nowadays? A: viral infection, pandemic)

THESIS (the points for discussion and persuasion in your essay)

Some negatives of remote learning are more distractions and less socialization while the main reasons for virtual learnings rise in popularity, and its benefits, are convenience, affordability, and diversity.

Introduction (hook, background, thesis)

Certainly, the revolution of online education is well under way worldwide. Modern technology, namely the computer and the internet, has enabled billions of people to learn from the comfort of their homes and this has had a massive impact on education systems.  Some negatives of remote learning are more distractions and less socialization while the main reasons for virtual pedagogy’s rise in popularity, and its benefits, are convenience, affordability, and diversity.

Body 1 – Topic Sentence – introduce, in detail, the concept/points of body paragraph 1 (more distraction and less socialization)

Two commonly observed deficits of learning from the comfort of the home are plenty of competing stimuli that draw attention from studies as well as a lack of interaction with peers. (Explanation – Why? What do you mean?) Friends, family, the television, or even the smell of a home-cooked meal can frequently distract home learners from their studies, and it is much easier to get up from the lesson and engage in these interruptions than doing this while sitting in a physical classroom. Furthermore, learners are not able to easily start a conversation and group work with their peers because they are often unavailable in time and/or space with virtual learning. (Example – 9/10 “Oh yeah, that’s happened with me. I can empathize” Think of 2 or 3 examples and pick the best one. Ideally, it is an example that may be applied to both body paragraphs.) When designing a business plan in an online class, it is easy to procrastinate and play football with friends instead of doing the work, also, delays happen because of poor communication among group members.  (Connecting/concluding sentence) However, these deficits of online learning can be managed and there are many benefits to such method of study.

Body 2 (Topic, Explanation and Example)

Many students favour and opt for online courses because it saves them time and money and they can choose their educational path from a broad range of courses and teachers that they can study from anytime and anywhere. (Explanation) Through distance learning, students do not need to spend hours each week commuting to school and they can pick from thousands of different courses taught by millions of teachers worldwide. Often, many of these courses cost a fraction of in-class learning because there are significantly lower overhead costs. A business degree in a physical university can costs over 20 thousand dollars in tuition, but the same degree completed online may only cost two thousand dollars.

Conclusion (points restated, argument strengthened, take-home-message)

In conclusion, although internet education can lack focus and interaction, its rise to stardom is fueled by its accessibility, cost, and variety. It is definitely an effective method of learning that is continuing to develop and helps propel humanity towards the next level of pedagogy.

Task 2 Essay: Offline vs Online Study

distance learning ielts essay

Task 2 Question: Some universities offer online courses as an alternative to classes delivered on campus. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Band 8+ Sample Answer:

(Intro) The Internet has become increasingly prevalent in education. Many universities are now offering online courses instead of traditional classrooms. From my perspective, I would contend that any potential advantages of this off-campus learning are outweighed by its significant disadvantages.

(Body 1) First and foremost, communication skills might suffer due to less direct interaction with teachers and classmates. Distance learning, as opposed to physical classes, is operated through the Internet resulting in students and teachers not having face-to-face conversations, which deprives students of opportunities to develop their communicative ability. In addition, without regular face to face contact, they may struggle to forge strong bonds with their teachers and peers. As a result, they may hesitate to reach out when they experience difficulties. In the long run, this may lead to loneliness and hinder students from demonstrating higher academic performance.

(Body 2) Worse still, online learning can encourage student procrastination, contributing to lower academic performance. Without strict supervision from teachers, students may neglect their studies and lack discipline. Therefore, this kind of learning is often associated with low student motivation, resulting in low academic productivity. Online courses during COVID19 pandemic perfectly exemplify this drawback. After months of online learning, the Ministry of Education has had to simplify the tests as the quality of e-learning is not guaranteed. This is a testament to how online courses can affect overall student outcomes.

(Conclusion) In conclusion, I am convinced that online courses can exert a more negative effect on students than a positive one, including impaired communication skills, procrastination and lower academic performance. Given the likelihood of more not less online learning in the future, the government should carry out extensive research to determine how to mitigate its many shortcomings. (280 words)

The Path to an International Qualification via Distance Learning

By ielts expert, 27 november 2022 - 22:47.

A man enjoys a cup of tea while reading his computer screen

More and more of us are now talking about ‘studying with a foreign country’ while discussing study options abroad. The official site of Education New Zealand, for instance, calls itself a platform with information on studying with New Zealand.

This novel way of phrasing indicates that you can now start your New Zealand education from wherever you are in the world; you don’t need to be in New Zealand anymore in order to get a New Zealand education!

Welcome to the world of distance learning, where boundaries don’t limit your study options .

What is distance learning?

So, what does distance learning actually mean? The concept, also known as digital learning, online learning, virtual learning, remote learning or e-learning, hasn’t been around for too long.

It was in 1999 that the term e-learning was first used by Elliott Masie at the TeachLearn conference at Disneyworld. An expert in educational technology, he defined it at the time as ‘the use of network technology to design, distribute, select, administer and share learning’ .

Ever since, distance learning has grown rapidly, thanks to significant advances in information technology and the growing need for flexibility among learners. Today many people perceive it as the future of education , and it’s easy to see why.

Online learning is a convenient, interactive, and low-cost process compared to the conventional classroom method. Most importantly, it’s a unique opportunity for many people who would otherwise have to give up on their dream of getting a formal education .

Finally, if you cannot fund your own studies, you stand a good chance of being able to convince your employer to cover the costs. Since such courses can be done from the convenience of your home or office, companies are increasingly saying yes to employees who seek financial aid to learn remotely.

Myths about distance learning

There’s no doubt that distance learning is an accessible education option that will help you save on costs associated with travel, relocation, and visas. However, you would still want to make sure that this delivery mode will allow you to gain the knowledge and skills that a conventional, in-person academic programme offers.

Here are some myths that we’d like to dispel straight away so that you do not get put off by the idea of e-learning at a later stage:

Myth #1 Digital learning can only work for you if you’re exceptionally good at using technology.

False! If you can use social media channels, and can send and receive information, you have everything you need to make a start . You’ll learn about the more detailed aspects of the e-learning platform you use on the way. And remember, e-learning platforms the world over are always trying to improve the user experience so learners are able to get their money’s worth.

Myth #2 It’s not for everyone.

False! It’s currently one of the most effective modes of learning available to learners. The online learning industry is growing rapidly and is expected to be worth $350 billion by the year 2025 (Forbes, 2020). This is perhaps the only option available to you if you’re unable to relocate for studies, or if you need flexible timings to be able to do a course.

Myth #3 Distance learning means you don’t get to work together with your classmates.

False! The fact that learners can connect with each other any time means that e-learning is an excellent mode that allows plenty of room for group work via chats and forums. In fact, most courses now have collaborative online learning activities to facilitate active learning and shared knowledge.

Myth #4 There is little interaction with teachers.

False! The teacher on a distance learning course usually assumes a different role to that of one in a classroom. They create a stimulating environment that ensures student participation , lead discussions, monitor proceedings, answer questions if required and carry out evaluations.

Myth #5 Doing an online course is like attending a conference.

Of course not! Unlike a conference, e-learning provides regular opportunities for you to interact with other learners and with e-learning tools, both of which are engaging and stimulating.

Myth #6 Virtual courses are easier, so they tend to be less valued than classroom-based courses.

Absolutely not! In fact, distance learning allows you to study with many of the world’s top-ranked institutions. If you enrol with an accredited course provider, the qualification you’ll earn at the end of the course will be globally recognised , enabling you to reap the rewards of all your hard work.

Myth #7 You can’t socialise and build networks when you’re on an e-learning course.

False! You'll have the opportunity to meet and work with a variety of individuals from all across the globe. Remember, a good e-learning programme can offer unparalleled opportunities for networking .

Myth #8 Employers don’t value qualifications earned from remote learning.

False! The growing popularity of online learning has led to a shift in how both people and organisations perceive qualifications earned through this mode. Today, companies are increasingly using virtual learning to help employees continue their education or upgrade their skills.

Naturally, an online degree is considered to be as good as an on-campus one . Of course, where you receive your online degree from will, to a large extent, determine how employers rate it.

Groundwork for doing a distance learning course

To make the most of your distance learning course and to achieve the best outcome, it is important that you do some preparation beforehand.

  • Have well-defined goals so that your progress becomes measurable.
  • Confirm that the chosen course provider is officially accredited in their country and in your home country; in this way, you can ensure your qualification will have wide recognition.
  • Know how to manage your time effectively ; learn to prioritise your time.
  • Plan your study timetable in advance so it fits perfectly into your routine.
  • Strengthen your online communication skills , both spoken and written. It’s very important to know how to treat others on forums with respect.
  • Give yourself some speaking practice , if needed, so that you’re able to actively take part in online discussions and debates with peers and teachers. Sometimes these meetings do not take place in real time because of the time differences, which means that communication can be in written form.
  • Take an international language proficiency test such as IELTS to bring your English skills up to scratch. The IELTS Academic test, for instance, measures if you are ready to begin studying in an English-speaking environment. So, preparing for the test will help you get familiar with the type of language used in an academic setting.

The benefits of distance learning

The increasing popularity of distance learning as a mode of education is sufficient proof that learners stand to benefit from it. Here are some benefits of studying online:

  • Flexibility is, without doubt, the greatest benefit of being on a distance learning course. You can study anytime, anywhere, provided you have access to a computer and the internet.
  • As far as study options go, nothing can beat e-learning. You can choose from a wide range of skill-based courses, degrees, course providers and countries. Conventional in-person learning can never match up to the amount of choices distance learning offers .
  • Using an e-learning platform helps you save time . Instead of spending time travelling to and from an educational institution, you could invest it in more productive tasks.
  • Distance learning is cost-effective , making education accessible to a wider segment of people. When you learn online, you successfully avoid several types of expenses – such as travel, housing, meals – that you have to bear if you were to opt for in-person learning. Besides, the tuition fee for online courses tends to be lower because of the lower overheads – e.g. rent, electricity, staff salaries – needed to run them.
  • Compared to classroom learning, e-learning courses tend to offer more content , mainly because learners are able to take in more when they learn at their convenience. Such content is also updated regularly as it is in digital form.
  • While you are learning about the subject you’re interested in via distance learning, you’re also gaining technical skills , which is the key to success in today’s world.

Popular distance learning platforms

Online course providers build information systems that provide a stimulating learning environment where learners can acquire knowledge, upgrade existing skills, and learn new skills.

This ensures that distance learners benefit from the same high level of education as students learning in person. Below is a short list of popular online platforms/course providers that offer top-notch e-learning courses.

Created by two Stanford University computer science professors, Coursera is a virtual learning platform that offers the opportunity to study from any country free of charge .

Coursera lets you earn undergraduate, postgraduate and master’s degree programmes via online learning. At the last count around 150 universities were offering over 4,000 courses through Coursera .

edX is a massive open online course (MOOC) platform founded by two of the biggest names in education: the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University .

The university-level courses that it offers cover a broad spectrum of subjects. The platform’s objective is to reach everyone free of charge to encourage higher education and research.

IUBH, or International University of Applied Sciences, is located in Germany. It offers both distance learning and in-person learning programmes, taught in English and German. Hybrid courses – a mix of online and on-campus learning – are also offered by the university.

The platform offers accredited bachelor’s, master’s and MBA degree courses online. As a learner, you’ll also have the option of spending your final term on campus in Germany .

Stanford Online

With Stanford Online, you gain access to a world of education created by Stanford University, one of the world's leading research and teaching institutions .

It offers an extensive catalogue of credit-bearing, professional, and free and open content developed by Stanford faculty across the university.

American Andragogy University

AAU, or American Andragogy University, in Hawaii offers distance learning programmes such as courses, diplomas, undergraduate degrees, master’s degrees and doctorates .

The university offers its students the use of various virtual libraries , where they can access books and e-publications, and a study platform, which can be used to receive information in an organised manner and have direct consultations with academic advisors.

Distance learning requirements

The requirements for studying online vary, depending on the course provider. That said, the entry requirements set by online course providers are generally similar to those for in-person courses. We’ve put together a list of basic requirements:

  • If you’re going to do an undergraduate course, you need your high school diploma or equivalent to enrol .
  • Generally speaking, for postgraduate degrees, you’ll need a previous degree in the same subject area .
  • Always check with the university/course provider to see if they have specific entry requirements .
  • Some institutions let you apply and begin studying any time during the year, whereas others have fixed dates . Make sure you have enough time to submit your application.
  • Finally,  make sure that you sit an international language test as well regarded as IELTS Academic , which demonstrates your English proficiency and ability to cope in the virtual classroom. Broadly speaking, the minimum required score varies between bands 6.5 and 7, depending on the institution, but you should find out about this beforehand to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Top study tips for distance learning

If you don’t have prior experience of learning online, the experience could perhaps leave you overwhelmed. To avoid such a situation, all you really need to do is to get the simple things right.

Following these tips will go a long way towards making your distance learning journey as smooth as possible.

  • Ideally, you should have a convenient workspace with adequate lighting and without distractions ; this will function as your classroom throughout the course.
  • It’s important that you have access to a computer with high-speed internet connection.
  • Always make a backup of your work – assignments, documents, and tasks. You could back up your files onto a memory stick or hard drive or store them in the cloud.
  • You must be highly disciplined and organised . Remember, distance learning courses allow you a great degree of freedom, which means you need to demonstrate exceptional commitment to make steady progress.
  • Use study techniques that help you to make the most of your time.
  • Set a study timetable and stick to it . You’ll need to allocate time for attending online sessions; you must also set aside much more time for studying, reviewing, and doing homework.
  • Never lose sight of your objective ; focus on your goals and visualise your success.

It’s evident that distance learning is a great way to receive a world-class education from the convenience of your home and earn qualifications that are globally recognised. If lack of time, shortage of funds, personal responsibilities, or anything else is stopping you from pursuing your dream of studying in a foreign country, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

Some people say that distance learning will become the main way of teaching and learning, and hence replace traditional schools in the future.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer

Many individuals argue that in the future, distance learning will take over traditional schools as the primary way of teaching and learning. I fully agree with this notion and believe that distance learning will become the primary method of education, replacing traditional schools. Offering flexibility and advancements in technology are the key factors for this shift in the education landscape.

One significant reason for this change is the flexibility and accessibility that distance learning provides. The flexibility is particularly advantageous for adults managing work and education simultaneously. As distance learning gains more popularity, many schools worldwide are incorporating online courses, making it a widely embraced trend. It eliminates geographical barriers, enabling individuals to access quality education regardless of their location. For instance, reputable universities offer online courses that people worldwide can enroll in, providing the opportunity to learn without the need to be physically close to a school.

Additionally, advancements in technology are enhancing the effectiveness and interactivity of distance learning platforms. Virtual classrooms now feature multimedia tools, interactive lectures, and real-time collaborations, which are beyond the traditional classroom experience. For example, the integration of augmented reality and artificial intelligence in online learning makes the learning process more engaging and personalized. These innovative methods not only cater to different learning styles but also deliver a level of interaction that surpasses what traditional classrooms can offer.

In conclusion, it is evident that the future of education is shifting towards distance learning as the primary method of teaching. The unparalleled flexibility, global accessibility, and technological progress make distance education a robust contender for shaping the future of learning.

Online Education is Becoming More and More Popular – IELTS Writing Task 2

Limited-Time Offer : Access a FREE 10-Day IELTS Study Plan!

The Essay Writing section of the IELTS Writing Module can be a difficult task for many IELTS Aspirants. Thus, it is vital that you polish your essay writing skills before attempting the IELTS.

Below is a sample IELTS Essay for the IELTS Essay topic:

Online education is becoming more and more popular. Some people claim that e-learning has so many benefits that it will replace face – to – face education. Others say that traditional education is irreplaceable. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Discussion Essay

Introduction

Sentences 1 & 2: Paraphrase the given topic.

Sentence 3: States the opinion.

Body Paragraph

Paragraph 1: reasons why people may enjoy pursuing online education.

Paragraph 2: reasons why traditional education is irreplaceable

Summarize my thoughts and express my final opinion.

Sample Essay

More and more people are taking online courses thanks to digital devices and the Internet. Some are opposed to distance education and question whether it has the same benefits as traditional education. I shall discuss both of these statements and conclude with a rationale .

There are many reasons why people may enjoy pursuing online education. Many learners can benefit from such a type of education, especially the busy workers, by planning their time more efficiently. Since the advent of smartphones and e-learning, many people can now study in the evenings, weekends, or even while driving to and from work rather than attending classes. Also, the cost of online learning is quite affordable , meaning students who live far from their hometowns do not have to pay for housing or take the bus to school or colleges. Consequently, a large number of families can afford the tuition fees without being burdened by enormous expenses.

Many who emphasize the value of offline training believe that face-to-face communication is more effective, and the learning experience offered cannot be replicated by modern education. Effective communication skills, cultivating social manners, and building healthy relationships with mates and mentors can only be developed by working in a real working environment. As a result, online education does not facilitate effective group education, one of the best ways to learn. Students also get to work in a team as a result of conventional teaching methods. Besides, online testing makes it difficult for teachers to evaluate students. In this way, it is not possible to track student progress, as it is in classroom settings. Further, learners can ask repeated questions whenever they have doubts or confusion.

In conclusion, although online learning has a number of positive influences, I think traditional education is an educational strategy that is irreplaceable. Through this, students can interact more with classmates and learn new skills together. They can also improve their skills and learn new things.

Essay 132 – Distance-learning programmes cannot bring the same benefit

Gt writing task 2 / essay sample # 132.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Many people join distance-learning programmes (study material, post, TV, Internet) and study at home, but some people think that it cannot bring the same benefit as attending colleges or universities does.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer: [ Disagreement]

In this day and age, remote learning has become the mode of choice for millions of people. However, this has sparked a heated debate on whether it can reap the same benefit as attending a typical classroom setting or not. In my opinion, distance programmes are just as effective as conventional education.

With classroom-based education, students attend classes and the teaching and the learning take place. A student can directly interact with the teacher and other fellow students. They can ask questions and seek guidance. Besides, meeting up with their peers is a tremendous opportunity to build up a network of professional contacts. Furthermore, students can exercise self-discipline by maintaining a timetable.

Likewise, distance learning is as effective as an in-person class for most students. The form of remote education system usually entails the use of the internet and information and communication technology to offer students with handy tools such as video conferences, blogs, shared documents and chats, making the course dynamic and easy to follow. Like a typical classroom setting, students can ask questions and exchange views through the chat room and teachers also can elucidate so as to clarify the concepts.

Moreover, the interaction with teachers and other classmates provides students with the opportunity to socialize with each other as much as they used to. For instance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, my daughter’s school moved online, forcing her to attend lectures via her gadgets. She asks questions and discusses the concepts with teachers and peers in a lively way. Finally, remote learning encourages students in collaborative work, independence, curiosity, self-directed learning and critical thinking.

From what has been discussed above it seems reasonable to conclude that remote-learning method proves to be an effective mode to obtain knowledge without going directly to the classroom. It enables pupils to attend classes, take exams, communicate, work and access to course materials. Therefore, I believe this form of education could be seen as an essential step forward.

IELTS Daily Essay Topic: Nowadays, distance learning programs have gained popularity.

Brainstorming Ideas

Refer to the brainstorming ideas below to get a better understanding of the essay response.

  • In-person courses at colleges and universities allow students to engage in face-to-face discussions.
  • It gives a deeper understanding of the subject.
  • Provides students with platforms for extracurricular activities, contributing to personal growth and development.
  • It often provides practical exposure to the students.
  • It also develops the habit of discipline and time management in students.

Q. Nowadays, distance learning programs have gained popularity, but some people argue that online courses can never be as good as those taken at a college or university in person. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Ans . Distance learning programs have gained a significant attraction. However, I firmly believe that online courses can never match the quality of those that are taken at a college or university in person.

Traditional in-person education provides an environment of comprehensive learning as it allows students to engage in face-to-face discussions with their teachers and peers. These discussions often lead to a deeper understanding of the subject matter and give people immediate feedback that further enhances their learning process. Apart from this, colleges and universities not only offer academic learning but also provide students with a platform to learn essential life skills. Participating in extracurricular activities, navigating campus life and interacting with various students who come from unique cultures and backgrounds contribute to students’ personal growth and development, which other online courses often overlook.

Moreover, traditional colleges and universities often provide practical exposure to the students with the help of laboratories, workshops and internships. For example, a student who has been studying engineering can gain hands-on experience with machinery and tools in a physical workshop rather than an online environment. Furthermore, it also develops the habit of discipline and time management in students. For example, if a student attends classes at a specific time, they will also be told to submit assignments on time while balancing their extracurricular activities which will foster the habit of doing things on time and that too effectively. But when it comes to online courses, they are flexible which will not help in fostering these skills.

To conclude, while the online course does have its own set of merits, it can not match the comprehensive learning experience that a classroom provides. The face-to-face interaction, practical exposure to things, and holistic development opportunities offered by it are invaluable and can not be compromised.

Paraphrased Statement: Distance learning programs have gained a significant attraction.

Thesis Statement:  However, I firmly believe that online courses can never match the quality of those that are taken at a college or university in person.

Body Paragraph 1-Topic Sentences: Traditional in-person education provides an environment of comprehensive learning as it allows students to engage in face-to-face discussions with their teachers and peers. These discussions often lead to a deeper understanding of the subject matter and give people immediate feedback that further enhances their learning process.

Body Paragraph 1- Supporting Reasons and Explanations: Apart from this, colleges and universities not only offer academic learning but also provide students with a platform to learn essential life skills. Participating in extracurricular activities, navigating campus life and interacting with various students who come from unique cultures and backgrounds contribute to students’ personal growth and development, which other online courses often overlook.

Body Paragraph 2- Topic sentence: Moreover, traditional colleges and universities often provide practical exposure to students with the help of laboratories, workshops and internships. For example, a student who has been studying engineering can gain hands-on experience with machinery and tools in a physical workshop rather than an online environment.

Body paragraph 2- Supporting Reasons and Explanations: Furthermore, it also develops the habit of discipline and time management in students. For example, if a student attends classes at a specific time, they will also be told to submit assignments on time while balancing their extracurricular activities which will foster the habit of doing things on time and that too effectively. But when it comes to online courses, they are flexible which will not help in fostering these skills.

Conclusion: To conclude, while the online course does have its own set of merits, it can not match the comprehensive learning experience that a classroom, provides. The face-to-face interaction, practical exposure to things, and holistic development opportunities offered by it are invaluable and can not be compromised.

How to Write ‘Compare and Contrast’ Type of Essay in IELTS Writing Task 2?

How to Write ‘Compare and Contrast’ Type of Essay in IELTS Writing Task 2?

In ‘compare and contrast’ type of essay, IELTS examiners want you to discuss the points of comparing and contrasting the two things i.e. similarities and differences between the two. Therefore, it is important that you find out relevant points of similarities and differences of the two mentioned things after reading the question for IELTS Writing . Let’s look at an example:

Does living in a house bring more advantages than living in an apartment.

With this type of essay for IELTS Writing , you have two points to be discussed as follows:

  • Benefits of living in a house/apartment
  • Issues of living in an house/apartment

You must discuss both of them by giving reasons and support them with examples. And at the end, mention which of the two is better and why. If you do not discuss any of the above two points in the essay, you will lose marks.

So, in this type of essay, you must explain both the points.

How to structure IELTS Writing asnwer?

The essay can be structured mainly in 4 paragraphs as follows:

Paragraph 1: Introduction

Paragraph 2: Benefits of living in a house/apartment

Paragraph 3: issues of living in a house/apartment, paragraph 4: conclusion.

Further structuring of the paragraphs can be done as follows:

Sentence 1- State the issue

Sentence 2-Explain how it leads to this issue

d. Paragraph 4- Conclusion

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer:

There are many people who believe that living in a house is the best. However, some people disagree with this opinion and instead prefer to live in an apartment. This essay makes comparison of the two and chooses the most preferred option.

To begin with, living in a flat definitely brings several advantages to a resident. One of the most important reasons behind this is the huge convenience it offers. An apartment is a part of large building giving a feel of living in a small societal association which takes responsibility of any fix or repair or maintenance required. For example, if one needs to repair the roof, the maintenance charges are borne by the landlord. Moreover, various facilities as well as amenities are available nearby including shopping mall, tuition centre, medical store, bus station and so on.

On the other hand, living in an owned house does not offer the facilities that one can avail while living in an apartment. One reason for this is that it is quite lonely to stay in a house which occupies a large land area bringing boredom and snatching the joy of living with so many people around. For example, it would be such a dull experience of sitting alone in the garden with no one around to share life experiences. In addition to this, maintenance and cleanliness of the house are borne by the owner and thus it is costly to live in a house.

Conclusively, living in an apartment is comparatively better than staying lonely in a house. Though a house provides a large spacious area to move around but living in an apartment enhances more social interaction and adds more excitement to life.

(283 words)

Write an essay with minimum 250 words. Use the above mentioned vocabulary. 1. Some people think that learning online is more efficient. However, according to some other people, studying from books is still the preferred method. Which is the better method of learning out of the two?

2. Distance education is gaining popularity day by day and more students are enrolling through distance mode than full-time course in colleges. Make comparison of distance education and full-time course to find which is better and why.

3. A growing number of people own personal vehicle as they find it a convenient mode of transport in comparison to public transport. Compare the public and private mode of transportation and state which is better out of the two.

Many People Use Distance Learning Program To Study At Home But Some People Think That It Cannot Bring The Benefit As Much As Attending College

by Manjusha Nambiar · Published June 18, 2021 · Updated April 17, 2024

distance learning ielts essay

Sample essay

Nowadays, online education is offered by some universities. Although distance learning is advantageous for people who are living in remote areas and those who are working fulltime, some people are skeptical about its benefits and claim that campus learning is better. I also agree with this view. In my opinion, campus learning is far better than online learning.

There are multiple merits to attending university classes. First of all, campuses and classes give a proper environment conducive to learning. Attending the classes and interacting with a group of students who wants to master the same subject creates the right atmosphere which prepares the students to study. In addition, students can discuss topics with one another as well as with tutors. Thus, the insights would be more beneficial. Secondly, in a classroom, a teacher can give their hundred percent attention to the children. Indeed, students can ask queries to the teacher directly when they have difficulty mastering a concept. It is also possible for the teacher to infer whether the students have learned the concepts from their facial expressions. This is not possible in online learning where a computer program will merely lecture and move to the next lessons regardless of whether the student has learned the previous lessons or not. Needless to say, studies have shown that students who attend a campus program are more knowledgeable than those who take an online course.

Of course, online courses are beneficial for students who cannot attend a fulltime campus program. They are cheaper too. Even so, they have some inherent disadvantages which make them less valuable than campus programs. In online learning, a student cannot benefit from the guidance of a mentor. Actually, only those students who have so much dedication to their studies can benefit from online programs. Another disadvantage of online courses is that only theory based subjects can be learned online. If the program requires practical sessions, campus learning is the only option because campuses alone have laboratories where students can perform the experiments.

To conclude, I fully agree with the argument that regular on-campus courses are better than online courses because the atmosphere at the campus is conducive to learning and interactions on the campus equip students with invaluable interpersonal skills.
