Business Plan - Grade 10

WELCOME to Business Studies Lesson WebQuest by Ms. Herbert .

When you are unsure of where to begin, writing a business plan can seem overwhelming. Imagine you have a fantastic concept for a service or a company, but you're unsure... How can I inform others about it? How can I raise the funds necessary to launch my new company? Will people enjoy it and want to purchase from me? Do you find me credible? You can launch your own business if you have the necessary knowledge. A successful entrepreneur is autonomous, self-assured, tenacious, persistent, creative, quick on their feet, and technologically savvy. You leave far too many things up to chance when you don't have a business plan.

WebQuest Composed by Ms. Herbert - Business Plan ( Business Studies Grade 10)

Teachers encourage students to work alone or collaboratively at their own pace and have fun while learning. As a result, using this WebQuest with your students can help them gain more in-depth knowledge on a particular topic they are studying and instill a greater feeling of its importance.

If you need to generate your own content on a lesson topic for your students, here are some ideas for information to consider including:

  • INTRODUCTION - This lesson was originally created to give Business Studies Grade 10 students the chance to actively engage in studying the subject material that will be used to design their own business plan as an assignment. The WebQuest’s focus should be on this section. Students are prepared for the goal of the activity and given the "hook" in the introduction, which serves to pique their interest. You may add video snippets, role-playing exercises, and other motivational materials.
  • TASK : The task is a formal statement of what the students are expected to have completed by the end of the WebQuest. The objective of this particular WebQuest was for students to develop their own company plans using the pertinent information they had learned. The lesson's objectives, the task's directions, and the materials required to execute the task can all be included in the task section.
  • Process: It primarily provides as a summary of what will occur during the WebQuest and what problem or task the students are expected to complete during the process. Below Process in this WebQuest it covers the procedures that must be followed in order to complete the assignment, as well as the necessary materials (such as notes, photos, and YouTube videos). To help students complete their task, you can provide them with additional pertinent information and advice during the process section.
  • Evaluation : The evaluation tool quantifies exactly what knowledge and skills students need in order to complete the task. This could take the shape of a rubric, grading checklist, or any other format that allows for the evaluation of the students' work.
  • Conclusion : The conclusion provides the chance to reflect on the lesson, to facilitate generalization of the learning, to extend what was learnt, or some combination of these. The conclusion of this web quest takes the shape of student reflection on the lesson. Any additional summary or criticism is welcome in the end.

More information may be found on the Teacher's Page section of the WebQuest for any teacher who would want to use the same WebQuest in their own classroom. For teachers who want to teach the same subject or other specific content, this website is helpful in providing the information needed for lesson preparation. “A successful WebQuest should also be very visually appealing, simple to use, relevant to the pupils, and include a built-in evaluation system.”

7 Business Plan Templates for Kids (Free Printables!)

Download one of these (mostly) free business plan templates for kids to help your child focus on a business idea.

What do supersoakers, Apple computers, and Nike shoes all have in common?

kid on ground with laptop, text overlay

They all started as a business plan.

A business plan template for kids is great for two reasons:

  • Your child can play around with it and get familiar with what's required (even if they never start the business)
  • It helps kids focus on just one business idea at a time, and to see if they should move forward with it

No matter which category your own child falls into – just playing with business plans, or they have an actual business idea – I’ve got just the free business plan template for you.

Honestly? I wish my own parents would’ve given me one of these when, as a kid, my childhood friend and I had come up with our first kid business idea: selling bean bags. So, good on you for getting your kids involved with business plans so early in life!

Best Business Plan Templates for Kids

Use one of the business plan templates for kids below with one of these 16 kid business ideas .

OR, help them to use one of their original ideas sending sparks in their brain. You can use these 3 kid business plan examples for help with filling it out.

1. Solid Gold Biz Plan

I’ve been in business for 7 years and I’ve made about every mistake in the book.

Probably one of the biggest? Was that I didn't sit down to write a proper business plan (or, ANY business plan) until I was several years into blogging.

Because of this, I created a free business plan template for kids and teens (on Page 6 of this free printable), so that they practice how to do it right, from the beginning!

What makes my free Solid Gold Biz Plan different is that it starts your child thinking about the problem that they want to solve – because ultimately, that is the purpose of creating a product or a service. To solve a specific problem for people.

It then goes on to ask them simple questions that will focus them in on what it takes to plan out a business idea.

For example, I raise the question of how much it will cost to not only create the product/service but to also deliver it and maintain it. These are sometimes costs forgotten costs when creating a business plan.

2. BizKids’ Guide to Writing a Business Plan

This free business plan guide for kids includes sections for your idea, your marketing (and what makes your product unique), your startup costs, and an area for pricing so that you can make sure you’ll make a profit.

screenshot of bizKids business plan for kids

At the end is a one-page summary where your child can write up their answers from the previous pages all in the same place. Great for tacking up on the wall!

3. Teen Entrepreneur Toolbox

Anthony ONeal partnered up with Dave Ramsey to create the  Teen Entrepreneur Toolbox , a kid’s entrepreneur kit and small business guide for teens.

In other words, it’s so much more than just a business template for kids!

The entrepreneur kit includes the following:

  • Access to the Free Entrepreneur Toolbox app
  • Teen Portfolio Book
  • DVD of Anthony’s Training Video
  • Parent’s Guide Book
  • Pack of Thank You Cards
  • Deck of Conversation Starter Cards about Starting a Business
  • Goal Tracker Poster

Here's my full review of the Teen Entrepreneur Toolbox .

4. Proverbial Home Maker’s Family Business Plan Guide

This is such a fun guide that you can fill out with your child, teen, tween, or even the whole family. It includes family business ideas, a sales ledger, an inventory worksheet, and much more.

Business Plan Examples

You may be wondering where you can find business plan examples to show your kids or teens.

For starters, you should look right at home. Are you a small business owner?

Then you’ll definitely want my free Take Your Child to Work Day printables – it’s got a section for you to fill in about your own business, which is a perfect business plan example to discuss with your child.

You can also find two business plan examples on the Small Business Administration’s site (scroll down until you see red buttons for Rebecca’s example business plan, and Andrew’s plan).

They’re not entirely kid-friendly but can give lots of ideas for the kind of information and research to put into a business plan.

Business Plan Activity Worksheets

Check out these free PDF Shark Tank worksheets for students . Students or kids can work through coming up with their own business ideas, create an advertisement for it, and a scoring card to judge the business ideas.

You’ll find a free 30-minute Small Business Administration course for young entrepreneurs meant for teens that you can use with your students (or have your child go through).

Hint: In Objective 3, it goes over how to create a business plan.

Are you an educator? Great – you can get a free entrepreneur curriculum for Grades 1 – 12, with lots of worksheets, from the Venture Lab .

How Brazil’s 2035 logistics plan could transform crop production and global trade

Written by Dr. Zhan Wang, Post-Doctoral Research Associate, Center for Global Trade Analysis

business plan project grade 10

Over the past three decades, Brazil has experienced a significant increase in crop production and export, mainly driven by the expansion into the Cerrado biome (the center-west region of Brazil). Despite this rapid growth in crop production, the Cerrado’s competitiveness is hindered by high domestic transportation cost, which are up to three times higher than those in the Southeast-South regions. This is due to both the long farm-to-port distances and, more importantly, the underdeveloped inland railway network. These high transportation costs have become a bottleneck for the continued expansion of crop production in the Cerrado biome, reducing farming profitability and limiting the affordability of inputs needed to boost yield further.

This situation could change in the next decade with the implementation of Brazil’s National Logistics Plan  [1] 2035 (PNL2035). According to PNL2035, Brazil aims to extend the country’s total railway length by up to 91%, primarily connecting the core Cerrado biome with the north and southeast coasts. How PNL2035 will reduce transportation cost and consequently influence Brazil’s crop production is an important question for stakeholders in Brazil and its competitors in the global crop trade.

In a recent paper published in Science of Total Environment (Wang et al., 2024), Purdue researchers in the Center for Global Trade Analysis and Brazilian colleagues quantitatively evaluated the impact of Brazil’s PNL2035 on transportation cost, crop production, land use and environmental implications. By combining Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis with observed transportation cost data, the authors developed an innovative approach to estimate local level transportation costs and modes (railway or road) based on the existing transportation network.

Their findings show that in the baseline year (2017), farm-to-gate transportation costs  [2] in Mato Grosso (the major soybean-producing state in Brazil, located in the core Cerrado biome) ranged from $33/t to $112/t, with an average cost of $68/t. This is much higher than the transportation costs in Southeast-South Brazil ($30/t and less). Upon the completion of PNL2035, the expansion of railway infrastructure is projected to reduce transportation costs in the core Cerrado by 10% to 23% (22% in Mato Grosso). In contrast, the transportation cost reduction in Southeast-South Brazil will be only 6% and less, as those regions already have well-developed transportation infrastructure in the baseline year.

Furthermore, the reduction in transportation costs impacts the agricultural system through an economic model developed by the authors, which simulates Brazilian crop production and input use at a gridded cell level  [3] . As the Cerrado biome benefits from greater reductions in transportation costs due to PNL2035, it gains a relative advantage in farming through increased of farm-gate crop prices. As a result, model simulations indicate that the national crop production pattern will shift further from Southeast-South Brazil to Cerrado. This shift will lead to cropland expansion and yield growth, particularly in Mato Grosso.

This study provides several important implications for the future of Brazilian agriculture. For crop producers in Brazil, the results indicates that PNL2035 will enhance the competitiveness of the Cerrado biome in global crop trade by resolving the bottleneck of high transportation costs, thereby contributing to continued growth in crop production in this region. Although the traditional Southeast-South region will also benefit from PNL2035, local crop producers should prepare for increased competition as inland producers gain an advantage from better connectivity to domestic and international markets. Finally, PNL2035 will make Brazil more competitive at the national level. Crop producers from other countries should consider the impact of improved Brazilian transportation infrastructure in their future projection and planning.

For more information about this paper, refer to Zhan Wang, Geraldo B. Martha Jr., Jing Liu, Cicero Z. Lima, and Thomas W. Hertel. “Planned expansion of transportation infrastructure in Brazil has implications for the pattern of agricultural production and carbon emissions.” Science of The Total Environment 928 (2024): 172434. Available at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.scitotenv.2024.172434 .

[1] “Plano Nacional de Logística” in Portuguese.

[2] In this study, the transportation cost is measured as “the lowest cost from the farm to any crop exporting ports”, so the unit of transportation cost is distance-free.

[3] In this model, the resolution of grid cell is five-arcminute square, which is bout 7000 – 8000 hectares.

The Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) is a global network of researchers and policymakers dedicated to conducting quantitative analysis of international policy issues. Coordinated by the Center for Global Trade Analysis, which was founded in 1992 by Professor Thomas W. Hertel and housed in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University, GTAP aims to improve the quality of quantitative analysis of global economic issues within an economy-wide framework.

GTAP has become a common “language” for those conducting global economic analysis. GTAP data was pivotal in several key studies evaluating the WTO’s Uruguay Round Agreement and has continued to be central in numerous high-profile economic analyses. The center offers a variety of products, including data, models and resources for multi-region, applied general equilibrium analysis of global economic issues. It also organizes courses and conferences, undertakes research projects and publishes the Journal of Global Economic Analysis. GTAP is a truly global project, supported by a consortium of international and national agencies and a vast network of researchers worldwide.
