ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰੋਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਲੇਰੀ, ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਸਵਾਰਥਤਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦਾ ਜਸ਼ਨ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ (ਭਗਤੀ ਗੀਤ) ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਿੱਖ ਸਵੇਰੇ-ਸਵੇਰੇ ਉੱਠਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਸੂਰਜ ਅੱਜ ਉੱਚਤਮ ਸਿਖਰਾਂ ਤੇ, ਇਕ ਅਗਨੀ ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਤਰੇ। ਅੱਜ ਰੰਗ ਸੁਨਹਿਰੀ ਕਣਕਾਂ ਦਾ, ਦਿਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੁਦਰਾ ਵਾਂਗ ਲੜੇ।

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਭਿਅਤਾ ਮੂਲ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਮਸ਼ੀਨੀ ਯੁਗ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੇਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲੀ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੈ, ਵਿਸਾਖ ਵਰਗੇ ਪੱਕੀਆਂ ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ, ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ। ਕਣਕ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਦੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਝਲਕਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸੁਨਹਿਰੀ ਸਿੱਟੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਹਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਹਿਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਤੂਫ਼ਾਨ ਉੱਠਦੇ ਹਨ— “ਅੱਜ ਕਣਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਪੱਕੀਆਂ, ਹੱਸਦੀਆਂ ਪਈਆਂ ਜੱਟ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ।”

13 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ, 1919 ਦਾ ਉਹ ਅਮਰ ਦਿਨ ਵੀ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਸੀ, ਜਦੋਂ ਜਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਗ਼ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੜ੍ਹ ਠਾਠਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਪੱਕੀਆਂ ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਜੱਟ ਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਇਥੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਸਟੇਜ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੀਡਰ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਲਈ ਲਲਕਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੀਂਹ ਵਾਂਗ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਵਰ੍ਹਾਈਆਂ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਖ਼ੂਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਵਹਿ ਤੁਰੀਆਂ। ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਇਸ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਤੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਵਿਰਸਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ੂਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਦਾ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ ਕੁੱਟ-ਕੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਂਝੀਵਾਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਗ਼ਮੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਇਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਮਹਾਨ ਘਟਨਾ ਹੈ, “ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ”। ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ਼ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਈ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਧਾਰਨ, ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸੋਚਦੇ-ਵਿਚਾਰਦੇ, ਸਾਹਿੱਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਤੇ ਰਚਦੇ ਰਹੇ। ‘ਖਾਲਸਾ ਰੂਪ’ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪੰਜ ਪਿਆਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੰਚਾਇਤੀ ਰਵਾਇਤ ਤੋਰੀ। ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ, ਬੇਸ਼ਕ ਉਹ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਸੀ, ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਸੀ ਜਾਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੀ। ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਕਰੇ, ਉਹ ਨਿੰਦਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਤ ਦੇਣੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਖੀ, ਜੋ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਰਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅੱਜ ਤੱਕ ਅਪਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਗੋਇੰਦਵਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ 84 ਪਾਉੜੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਉਲੀ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਾਲ ਹਿੰਦੂ-ਸਿੱਖ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਖੇਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਹਲੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭੰਗੜਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।ਮੁਟਿਆਰਾਂ ਗਿੱਧਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੱਟ ਵੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਹਿ ਉਠਦਾ- ਓ ਜੱਟਾ ਆਈ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ। ਫ਼ਸਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਕ ਗਈ ਰਾਖੀ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਵਿਸਾਖ ਬਾਰੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਵਿਸਾਖ ਬਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਚਾਰੇ ਹਨ। ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਭਿਅਤਾ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਾਨਵੀ ਏਕਤਾ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਵਿਸਾਖ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੀ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੜੀ ਧੂਮਧਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋਈ, ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਣਾ ਤਾਂ ਸੰਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ। ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਇਕ ਰੁੱਤ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ‘

ਵਿਸਾਖ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਗਰਮੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਪੱਕ ਕੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਕਿਸਾਨ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਦੱਖਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਚ ਉਠਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਾਲਾਮਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਡੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੰਨੇ। ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੀ ਅਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਵਿਖੇ। ਭਾਰੀ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਸੀ। ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਇਕੱਠ ਵਿਚ ਨੰਗੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਦੋਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਇਕ-ਇਕ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪੰਜ ਵੀਰ ਉਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਵੀਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜ ਪਿਆਰੇ’ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਪੰਥ ਸਾਜਿਆ।

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਦਿਨ 13 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1919 ਨੂੰ ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਦੇ ਜਿਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਹਿੰਸਾਕਾਂਡ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਬਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਨਿਹੱਥੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਰਲ ਡਾਇਰ ਨੇ ਗੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਇਸ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਅਤਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਟੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵੀਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਗਵਾਂ ਕੇ ਭਾਰਤਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਖਲ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਭੇਂਟ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹਿੰਦੂ ਧਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕ੍ਰਮੀ ਸੰਮਤ ਦਾ ਆਰੰਭ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਨ ਆਦਿ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵਪਾਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਹੀ-ਖਾਤਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਹਰੇਕ ਛੋਟੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੇਲੇ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਸ਼ਤੀਆਂ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਲੋਕ ਨਵੇਂ-ਨਵੇਂ ਕਪੜੇ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਮਾਰੋਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੇਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਰੀ ਗਹਿਮਾ-ਗਹਮੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਦਾ ਮੇਲਾ ਦੇਖਣ ਯੋਗ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਮੇਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਮਿਠਾਈਆਂ, ਕੁਲਫ਼ੀ, ਗੋਲਗੱਪੇ ਆਦਿ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਿਸਾਨ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਹਲੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਚ ਉੱਠਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਨਾਚ ਨੂੰ ਭੰਗੜਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਢੋਲ ਦੀ ਥਾਪ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ। ਭੰਗੜਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨ ਕੁਸ਼ਤੀਆਂ ਲੜਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸਦੇ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਕੱਬਡੀ, ਫੁਟਬਾਲ ਆਦਿ ਮੈਚ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਲੜ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਿੱਟੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਦਿਹਾੜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀ। ਕੇ ਦੰਗੇ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਬੜੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਉਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਵੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਦੇਸ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ। ਵੈਸੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹਾੜੀ (ਕਣਕ) ਦੀ ਫਸਲ ਪੱਕਣ ਤੇ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਲੇਕਿਨ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਹਾੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਗਿਆ । ਬਲਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਮਹਤੱਤਾ ਵੀ ਹੈ ।

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਸਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਨੰਦਪੁਰ (ਪੰਜਾਬ) ਵਿਖੇ 13 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1699 ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਛਕਾ ਕੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਸਾਜਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ।

ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਸੁਤੰਤਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਤ ਇਕ ਘਟਨਾ ਵੀ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ । ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੀ ਜਲਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਗ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਜਲਸਾ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ । ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਸਰ ਮਾਈਕਲ ਓਡਵਾਇਰ ਨੇ ਰੋਸ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਹੱਥੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ । ਇਸ ਬਾਗ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਹੀ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਊਸ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਬੰਦੂਕਾਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਖੜੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਹੀ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ ।

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਾੜੀ ਦੀ ਫਸਲ ਪੱਕ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਕਿਸਾਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੱਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਫਸਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਨੱਚ ਉੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ । ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਤਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਲਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਮੇਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕ ਦੂਰ ਦੂਰ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਮੇਲੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੱਗੇ ਝੂਲਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ, ਬੱਚੇ ਝੂਲੇ ਭੂਲਏ ਹਨ । ਮਿਠਾਈ ਦੀ ਦੁਕਾਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭੀੜ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿਤੇ ਕਰਾਰੇ ਪਕੌੜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਕ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਭਲਵਾਨ ਆਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਘੁੱਲਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ । ਕਿਤੇ ਬੋਲ ਦੇ ਡੱਗੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਭਰੂ ਭੰਗੜੇ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।

ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮਹਤੱਤਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਜਾਏ ਗਏ ਦੀਵਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀਆਂ ਭਰਦੇ ਹਨ | ਢਾਢੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਾਰਾਂ ਸੁਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੂਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਬਾਲ ਲਿਆ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।

ਦਿੱਲੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਜਨੂੰ ਕਾ ਟੀਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਵੇਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਸਜਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਥੋਂ ਦੀ ਰੌਣਕ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ । ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੇਸਗੜ੍ਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਲੋਕ ਆ ਕੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਭਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।

ਮੇਰਾ ਕੱਲੀ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ , ਵੇ ਲੈ ਚਲ ਮੇਲੇ ਨੂੰ।

ਚਲ ਚਲੀਏ ਜਰਗ ਦੇ ਮੇਲੇ , ਮੁੰਡਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਚੁੱਕ ਲਉ

ਮੇਲਾ ਦੇਖਣ ਜਾਣਾ- ਇਹ ਮੇਲਾ ਸਮੂਹਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੜੇ ਚਾਅ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਮੇਲਾ ਵੇਖਣ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਬਣਾਇਆ। ਅਸੀਂ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਬੱਚੇ, ਬੁੱਢੇ, ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਮੇਲਾ ਦੇਖਣ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਂ-ਬਾਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਂਗਲੀਆਂ ਫੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੜਾ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਸਭ ਨੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਕਣਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਾਢੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਗਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਣਕਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਸੋਨਾ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ।

ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ – ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਾੜੀ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਦੇ ਪੱਕਣ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਘਟਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਸਾਜਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਪੰਜ ਪਿਆਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਛਕਾ ਕੇ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਛਕਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਅਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਖੂਨੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਗਈ। 13 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ, 1919 ਈਸਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਜ਼ਾਲਮ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਜਨਰਲ ਡਾਇਰ ਨੇ ਜਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਗ਼, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਚਲਾ ਕੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਨਿਹੱਥੇ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭੁੰਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਮੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਦਿਸ- ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ-ਕਰਦੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੁੱਜ ਗਏ ਮੇਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ-ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੁਕਾਨਾਂ ਸੱਜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਸਨ। ਸਭ ਪਾਸੇ ਰੌਲਾਰੱਪਾ ਸੀ।ਕਾਫੀ ਭੀੜ-ਭੱੜਕਾ ਸੀ। ਕੁੱਝ ਬੱਚੇ ਖਿਡੌਣੇ ਖਰੀਦ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਕੁਝ ਝੂਟੇ ਲੈ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਔਰਤਾਂ ਚੂੜੀਆਂ, ਬਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਆਦਿ ਸਮਾਨ ਖਰੀਦ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਇੱਕ ਮਠਿਆਈ ਦੀ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਤੇ ਜਲੇਬੀਆਂ ਬਣ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਗਰਮ-ਗਰਮ ਜਲੇਬੀਆਂ ਖਾਧੀਆਂ।
