If you are preparing for a specific career field like medicine or technology then you may also find those subjects useful in learning vocabulary and gaining muscle memory for the jargon particular to the kind of job you have, or hope to get. This will give you a chance to practice the type of typing that you are most likely to encounter in your daily life.

Monkeytype is a minimalistic and customizable typing test. It features many test modes, an account system to save your typing speed history, and user-configurable features such as themes, sounds, a smooth caret, and more. Monkeytype attempts to emulate the experience of natural keyboard typing during a typing test, by unobtrusively presenting the text prompts and displaying typed characters in-place, providing straightforward, real-time feedback on typos, speed, and accuracy. Test yourself in various modes, track your progress and improve your speed.

By default, this website uses the most common 200 words in the English language to generate its tests. You can change to an expanded set (1000 most common words) in the options, or change the language entirely.

You can use tab and enter (or just tab if you have quick tab mode enabled) to restart the typing test. Open the command line by pressing ctrl/cmd + shift + p or esc - there you can access all the functionality you need without touching your mouse

wpm - total number of characters in the correctly typed words (including spaces), divided by 5 and normalised to 60 seconds.

raw wpm - calculated just like wpm, but also includes incorrect words.

acc - percentage of correctly pressed keys.

char - correct characters / incorrect characters. Calculated after the test has ended.

consistency - based on the variance of your raw wpm. Closer to 100% is better. Calculated using the coefficient of variation of raw wpm and mapped onto a scale from 0 to 100.

After completing a test you will be able to see your wpm, raw wpm, accuracy, character stats, test length, leaderboards info and test info. (you can hover over some values to get floating point numbers). You can also see a graph of your wpm and raw over the duration of the test. Remember that the wpm line is a global average, while the raw wpm line is a local, momentary value. (meaning if you stop, the value is 0)

If you do NOT fix the errors , a penalty will be added to your final WPM score. To fix the errors, press the backspace key.

The timer starts when you start typing. However, if you wait more than 3 seconds, the timer starts anyway.

Get rid of the quotes you don't like. Rate quotes . Quotes with a score below 2.5 stars won't show up in the game.

Error colors

                      The acceleration and deceleration lets you see where you speed up and slow down during the typing test.

Bad case is when the case is incorrect. You typed '. the' instead of '. The'.

Bad ordering is when you typed a letter too early. For example, you typed huose instead of house. The U came too early.

Doublet is when you typed a character twice. For example homee or commmunity.

Other mistakes are not categorized.

Red is if you decide to not fix a mistake. A penalty will be applied to your score.

Typing Speed Calculation

These Formulas are used to Calculate Speed of Typing Test Accurately. These formulas are considered Standard Formulas for Calculating Speed.

GWPM ( Gross Word Per Minute )

First of all, count how many characters you typed in the test then divide that number by 5 whatever result you get to divide it further by total time in minutes. It will be your Gross Word Per Minute. GWPM Doesn't imply the Error Rate. For example your 100 characters or Keystrokes in a minute then your GWPM would be 100/5=20 (WPM), Gross.

Net Speed (WPM)

Net Word Per Minute is the actual Speed on Which you can Trust completely because it unlike GWPM take into Consideration the Error Rate, in other words, the number of words in which you made Error in a given time slot so, that final Speed will be the outcome of Accuracy and GWPM taken into Deliberation. Suppose your GWPM speed is 20 but you made Error in 5 words so your speed will be 20-5=15 Net Word Per Minute.

Error Rate (WPM)

Error Rate is Deduced by Dividing Incorrect entries by Total Time(in Minutes). For Example, you made Error in 10 words in 2 Minutes time Slot so your Error Rate would be 10/2=5 Words.

Accuracy (%)

Accuracy is attained by dividing the correct words by total words after that multiply the result with 100 for getting the Percentage. Guess you Made 60 correct insertions out of 120 Total Insertions of words then result Accuracy would be (60/120)*100=50%.

How to Begin English Typing Test?

To start the English typing test , enter your name, select timer and click on the Start button. After a while a test window will emerge, To assess your typing abilities, click on the typing box and type the blue highlighted English word in the box written "click here to start typing" and press SPACE to begin the test so that you can check your progress in real-time. Color Highlighting Options

"High Visibility" mode gives more significant color distinctions - great for those with color blindness or other vision impairments.

"No Color Highlighting" mode gives a more difficult and realistic experience.

Added option to ignore accented characters in word validation: this is language sensitive. For example, in French, the letter 'á' can be typed as 'a' and still be counted as correct when this setting is enabled.
