Special Research List

Special Research Lines come in two main flavors: Unlimited and Limited. Unlimited lines unlock at specific points in the game, and  are available to complete at the player's leisure. Limited lines have specific requirements to unlock such as playing during a specific time period, and may or may not have a time-limit.

Unlimited Special Research

Research System Breakdown

Research Tasks are divided into four categories:

  • Field Research - Single-objective goals such as spinning PokeStops and catching Pokemon that reward items and one "stamp" (1 per day). These are the tasks outlined above.
  • Special Research - Story based multi-objective goals such as catching and transferring Pokemon that have unknown rewards
  • Paid Research  - Similar to Special Research, but a ticket must be purchased in order to actually enjoy these Research lines. These are frequently tied to events or seasons.
  • Research Breakthrough - Rewards based on collecting stamps that reward Stardust, items, and a Pokemon encounter.

Task Mechanics

A trainer can hold up to 3 tasks at a time, 4 including an AR task. Also, trainers can trash a task if they do not want to try to complete it.

Trainers receive tasks from spinning PokeStops, and each Pokestop gives the same task to all trainers during the day. If the reward is an encounter, all trainers receive the same species (though IVs will differ). If you get a task on Monday from a stop and don’t clear it until Tuesday, you will not be able to get a task from that same PokeStop on Tuesday as once you receive a task, you will not receive another one from that PokeStop. However, if you delete a task, you can go back to that stop later in the day to get it again.

Various events frequently have their own unique set of tasks with event-themed rewards. Community Days in particular bend the Research rule a bit, as the research assigned to each Stop for the day changes to Community Day-themed research for the duration of the event, and revert back to normal after the event. Note that completing research from a given stop at any point during a given day will cause it to remain claimed for the rest of said day regardless of event-themed task changes.

Tasks give a variety of rewards, often based on the challenge you had to complete. Rewards can be encounters, Stardust, or items such as balls, potions, revives, TMs, and Rare Candy. Generally, more difficult tasks will have higher rewards.

Encounters from tasks are level 15 Pokemon with IVs of at least 10 in all 3 stats. After clearing an encounter task, you will be taken to the encounter. The Pokemon will not be weather boosted regardless of the in-game weather. You can run from the encounter and come back to it in the future.

Once you clear an encounter task, you can immediately collect a new task. Interestingly enough, you can save a large number of encounters! Some trainers do this and choose to catch them during a Lucky Egg or Star Piece session.

Each day when you complete your first task, you receive a Research Stamp. When you have 7 stamps, you will receive a Research Breakthrough.

Research Breakthrough rewards change each season.

General Tips

Special research tasks do not give a daily stamp - only field research does Minimum level for Special Research is level 5 Pokemon encounters appear to be at level Many players have a “refill loop” or “grind loop” of stops and gyms in their PoGo lives, often one they hit multiple times each day.. If you have the option, add a second loop. Having multiple loops will greatly increase the number of tasks seen Try to keep one open task so you can always pick a new one up when you visit a Pokestop for the first time in a day. Find a network of players to report tasks, perhaps through your raid chat of choice. You won’t be able to check every stop, so if people call out TM, Rare Candy or Chansey quests it can really help. Some communities have focused on calling out Charmander encounter quests. This is a great way to farm high IV Pokemon before a community day. Some encounters have very large hit-boxes. Save these for when you are working on a 3 excellent or 3 great throw in a row quest. Try not to hold more than 1 long term quest. Remember there is an opportunity cost to holding 3 “Catch a Ditto for 3 Rare Candy” tasks. Obviously the payoff is awesome, but in the meantime you are missing out on so many other potential rewards from other tasks you cannot get. Don’t miss a day of Research Progress. If you don’t think you can play much tomorrow, leave one task unclaimed today. Tomorrow you can wake up, claim the task, and make progress towards your Research Breakthrough. Consider weather, biome, and active events when deciding whether to keep or delete a task. You likely aren’t going to quickly complete the “3 Pidgey or Murkrow” task on a sunny day during a rock event, but you should blow through “catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost” on a cloudy day during a fighting event. If you don’t throw excellents well, it’s not the end of the world to toss a task requiring an excellent throw. Holding on to tasks without substantial rewards for a long period of time is a big mistake. In general, take your playstyle into account when deciding to keep or delete a task. Do you battle gyms constantly? Then the Minium task isn’t bad as you will quickly turn it over. Did you already use your raid pass for the day? Then don’t hold on to that “Defeat a level 3 raid for some potions” type tasks. Free to play? Then the hatch 3 eggs” quest is probably an easy one to delete. Have a task that you know you cannot complete quickly at a stop near your house? Well trash that task while you grind. Then as you return home you can grab it later in the day. That way you can cycle through more tasks without it clogging your inventory. Remember that reward encounters and the Research Breakthrough reward have a 0% flee rate. Use pinaps liberally! Keep track of local nests. “Catch 3 Bugs” is much easier when you know there is a Caterpie nest a couple blocks away.

Pokémon Go December 2022 Community Day, Timed Research guide

It’s more like a Community Weekend

by Julia Lee

A big 2022 with several Community Day Pokémon around it, including Deino, Hoppip, Spheal, Litwick, and Stufful

Pokémon Go is ending its year as usual with a Community Weekend , bringing back Pokémon featured in Community Days from the past year. On Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 players will be able to find previous Community Day Pokémon in the wild, with a high chance to find them shiny.

From 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on both days , the Community Day Pokémon will be spawning in large numbers, but perks like doubled XP and Stardust will only be active from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. in your local time. In addition, specific Pokémon will spawn on each day from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., making it easier to find specific Pokémon you missed.

The shiny rate from 2-5 p.m. will be at the usual Community Day rate for the featured Pokémon, meaning it’s about a 1 in 25 chance to find a shiny. Just keep tapping the Pokémon you’re looking for a shiny of, and it’s bound to turn up. Make sure to use an Incense to boost your spawns as well.

Pokémon from the 2021 Community Day events will also be available in two km eggs and raids to help people catch up even more.

All of the Pokémon from both 2021 and 2022 will be able to learn their special Legacy moves when evolved during the event, with Ursaluna having a specific time slot.

Pokémon Go Max Out Research Breakthrough Encounters (September to December 2024)

Image of Adam Newell

Niantic is giving trainers some neat Pokémon Go Research Breakthrough Encounters in September for those who manage to keep on top of their Field Research Tasks.

When you complete a Field Research Task, you get a stamp added to your journal. After getting seven stamps from seven consecutive days, you get a Research Breakthrough that gives you a bunch of items and a singular Pokémon spawn.

These Pokémon are set to appear in Research Breakthroughs from Sept. 3, 10am local time, until Dec. 3, 10am local time, so there is plenty of time to find one of them.

Every Pokémon available in Max Out Research Breakthroughs from September 2024

There are six Pokémon available in Research Breakthrough encounters in Pokémon Go for September 2024, with every single one available as a Shiny if you manage to beat the odds.

Out of the six Pokémon on offer, Jangmo-o and Hisuian Growlithe are personal favorites of ours, especially if you can find their Shiny forms in the months they are active. Both are relatively new Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Go , and are in the line to have Community Days in the next 12 months.

Audino is also a pretty good Pokémon due to the XP bonuses it can give you per catch. In all, though, all the Pokémon on offer are pretty good. You can also expect each Research Breakthrough Encounter Pokémon to have decent stats, which is just a bonus.

Dynamax Pokémon & Max Battles Arrive in Pokémon GO

Posted in: Games , Mobile Games , Niantic , Pokémon GO | Tagged: Dynamax , Max Out , Niantic , pokemon , pokemon go

Dynamax Pokémon and Max Battles debut in Pokémon GO, but certain elements of this feature remain mysterious. Here is what we can confirm.

Article Summary

  • Dynamax Pokémon and Max Battles debut in Pokémon GO during the GO Big event from September 10 to 15, 2024.
  • Five species, including Bulbasaur and Wooloo, will be featured in one-star Max Battles and can be Shiny.
  • Event bonuses include 2× XP for Max Battles, 2× XP for spinning PokéStops, and PokéStop Showcases.
  • Special Research introduces Max Particles, crucial for Dynamaxing, available from September 3 to December 3, 2024.

Ever since Niantic began teasing Dynamax Pokémon in  Pokémon GO , Trainers all over theorized on how this mechanic would show up in the game. Now, Niantic has announced that the new GO Big event will introduce Max Battles to the game along with five species that will be able to Dynamax. Here's everything we know.

Dynamax Skwovet, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, and Wooloo in Pokémon GO. Credit: Niantic

Here's what's happening for the GO Big event in Pokémon GO :

  • Date and time: Tuesday, September 10, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time
  • "GO out, GO big, and GO wild with a new Season in Pokémon GO, where Dynamax Pokémon debut in Max Battles! The following Pokémon will make their Pokémon GO Dynamax debut in one-star Max Battles! Pokémon caught from Max Battle encounters, as well as their Evolutions, can be Dynamaxed during Max Battles."
  • All can be Shiny
  • 2× XP for winning a Max Battle
  • 2× XP for spinning PokéStops
  • PokéStop Showcases featuring event-themed species
  • Field Research: Standard encounters with the species features in Max Battles: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Skwovet, and Wooloo, all of which can be Shiny.
  • "Another part of the Seasonal Special Research story will be available to all Trainers beginning at the start of the event. Trainers can complete tasks focused on Max Battles to earn Max Particles, a new avatar item, and more! You can claim this Special Research at no cost from Tuesday, September 3, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 9:59 a.m. local time."

We can also glean from a webstore announcement that Max Particles will be part of Max Battles. It is likely that Max Particles will be to Dynamaxing as Mega Energy is to Mega Evolution. Niantic featured images of this new item here:

Pokemon GO All Out - All Field Research Tasks & Collection Challenges

Unlucky pokemon go players get stuck on new special research task, pokemon go: a complete pokedex (september 2024), quick links, pokemon go max out - all to the max special research tasks and rewards, where to find pokemon go max particles, how to level up pokemon go dynamax moves.

Pokemon GO is finally getting Dynamax Pokemon and is using the To The Max Special Research to show us how it works. First seen in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield , the Dynamax mechanic allows every Pokemon in the entire game to potentially grow to a colossal size, gaining access to brand-new moves to shake up PvP in what is the biggest addition since Routes last year .

As part of the Max Out season, the Pokemon GO To The Max Special Research is only available to claim for three months between September 4, at 10 AM local time, until December 3, at 9:59 AM local time . You only need to log into Pokemon GO between these dates to get this research added to your permanent task list, and it's free for all players. It gives all players access to a Wooloo capable of Dynamaxing, among other useful items. This guide will go through all the tasks and rewards in the To The Max Special Research .

Pokemon GO GO All Out Field Research Collection Challenges

Pokemon GO players can complete the GO All Out Field Research tasks and Collection Challenges by following this guide.

The To The Max Special Research has three steps in total. In addition to getting a Dynamax Wooloo and several other useful items, such as Pokeballs and Rare Candies, you can also earn Pokemon GO XP by completing each step.

Pokemon Go To The Max: A wrist with a Dynamax band.

Finding Pokemon GO Max Particles is as simple as locating Power Spots, and they're just like finding Pokestops on your walk . Power Spots act mostly in the same way, too, in that they're inaccessible while moving at a high speed, and you can interact with them only if you're close enough.

However, there are two key differences. The first one is Power Spots are completely separate from ordinary Pokestops . In our experience, their locations seem to be local businesses rather than landmarks.

The second is that once you've interacted with the new Power Spot and taken the 100-120 Max Particles available, you can't use it again until the assigned countdown expires. So, if you want to get enough to Dynamax your Pokemon , you'll need to wait. This can be anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days, depending on the Power Spot's current cycle.

While there is a supposed cap of 800 Max Particles per day you can get, you can go over this value. You can get an additional 300 Max Particles for every 2 kilometers you travel, which you can redeem via the new Power Spot segment in the nearby Pokemon tab on the bottom right of the screen. You can also check this out to see countdowns for all the nearby Power Spots. You can also encounter a Dynamax Pokemon when you reach 1000 Max Particles.

Once you catch a Dynamax Pokemon, you'll want to learn new moves. Thankfully, it's similar to how you use candy to unlock a new Pokemon GO Charge Move slot . Every Dynamax Pokemon automatically has at least one of their Dynamax moves unlocked. To upgrade each one or unlock the rest, you'll need a set amount of Max Particles and that Pokemon's candy.

Every move can be leveled three times, with the final level also requiring a set amount of that Pokemon's XL candy instead of the regular ones.

Here is a breakdown of all the level costs:

Can Dynamax Pokemon Be Shiny?

According to a post by Amiibofan 101 on Reddit , if you're incredibly lucky, it's possible to catch a Dynamax Wooloo in its shiny form. While it's currently unclear if you'll be able to find all available shiny Pokemon in their Dynamax form, we do at least have confirmation that it's possible for this Special Research Wooloo.
