కథేంటంటే: సత్య (శివకార్తికేయన్) తన తల్లి (సరిత), చెల్లితో కలిసి ఓ బస్తీలో జీవిస్తుంటాడు. అతనొక కామిక్ ఆర్టిస్ట్. సత్య వేసిన మహావీరుడి బొమ్మల కథలు మా భూమి పత్రికలో సుబ్బారావు పేరుతో ప్రచురితం అవుతుంటాయి. సమాజంలో ఏం జరిగినా సర్దుకుపోయే తత్వం అతనిది. ఓ రోజు బస్తీవాసులందరికీ ప్రజాభవనం పేరుతో అధికార పార్టీ అపార్ట్‌మెంట్లు కట్టి ఫ్లాట్‌లను అలాట్ చేస్తుంది. బస్తీ వాసులంతా వాటిల్లో చేరిపోతారు. రోడ్లు భవనాలశాఖ మంత్రి జయసూర్య ఆ ప్రజాభవనాన్ని నాసిరకంగా కట్టడంతో తలుపులు, కిటికీలు ఊడిపోతుంటాయి. పైకప్పు పెచ్చులు మీదపడి చిన్నారులకు గాయాలవుతుంటాయి. ప్రజాభవనం నిర్మించిన నాయకులు, కాంట్రాక్టర్లపై సత్య తల్లి ఎదురు తిరగాలనుకుంటుంది. కానీ, తల్లిని కూడా సత్య సర్దుకుపొమ్మని చెబుతుంటాడు. చెల్లితో అసభ్యకరంగా ప్రవర్తించినా ఏం చేయలేని పిరికివాడిగా ఉండిపోతాడు. ప్రజా సమస్యలను తన మహావీరుడి కథలో బొమ్మలు వేస్తుంటాడు. ప్రజాభవనం లోపాలపై జర్నలిస్ట్ చంద్రమతి (అదితి శంకర్) తన మా భూమి పత్రికలో రాయాలనుకుంటుంది. ఎలా ఉందంటే: ఒక పిరికివాడు ప్రజల కోసం ధైర్యవంతుడిగా ఎలా మారాడనేదే మహావీరుడి కథ. ధైర్యమే విజయం నినాదంతో ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకొచ్చిన ‘మహావీరుడు’ చిత్రం నిలువనీడ లేకుండా ఉన్న పేదప్రజల సమస్యలను తెరపై ప్రతిబింబించింది. ప్రతి పేదవాడు సొంతిల్లు ఉండాలి, బాగా బతకాలని కలలు కంటుంటాడు. బస్తీల్లో బతుకుతూ ఓ పూట తింటూ మరోపూట పస్తులుంటూ రేపటి కోసం ఎదురుచూస్తుంటాడు. అలాంటి పేదలను అడ్డుపెట్టుకొని రాజకీయ పార్టీలు ఆడే ఆటలో వారి జీవితాలు ఎలా నాశనం అవుతున్నాయనేది చెప్పాలనుకున్నాడు దర్శకుడు. (Mahaveerudu Movie Review in telugu) ప్రథమార్ధం బస్తీ ప్రజలకు ఆశచూపి వారు ఉన్నచోటును ఖాళీ చేయించడం, ప్రభుత్వం నిర్మించిన అగ్గిపెట్టెల్లాంటి అపార్ట్ మెంట్లలోకి వెళ్లడం, అందులోని ప్లాట్లలో తలెత్తే సమస్యలను కళ్లకు కట్టినట్టు చూపించారు. కథానాయకుడు తను గీసిన మహావీరుడి బొమ్మల్లోని కథ రవితేజ మాటలతో వినిపించినప్పటి నుంచే కథ మరింత ఆసక్తికరంగా మారుతుంది.

Never before was a biopic made in Telugu on a movie star. Hence, ‘Mahanati’ raised curiosity ever since it was announced. Finally, the biopic on Savitri is here. Amidst huge expectations, the film was released today.

Find out if the film has lived up to high expectations it set... 

Story: In 1980, Madhuravani (Samantha), a journalist working for Prajavani newspaper, begins research on Savitri, the actress who is admitted to hospital in penury condition. Intrigued by her situation, she decides to write about what really happened to this great actress. Thus the story of Savitri who rose to becoming a top actress in 1955 is revealed in flashback.

How Savitri (Keerthy Suresh) became an actress, how she fell in love with Gemini Ganeshan (Dulquer Salmaan), how all her money was lost and how she got addicted to alcohol is narrated slowly.

Artistes’ Performances: Since this is biopic of Savitri, the role of Savitri is there from the beginning to the end and naturally Keerthy Suresh hogs all the limelight. She gives solid performance in the role of Savitri. Except that she is not overweight, Keerthy has got everything right -- expressions, acting, gait and emotions. She has lived in the role of Savitri. It is a tough role for any actress to live in the character of Savitri who is considered as the epitome of great acting, yet Keerthy steals the show.

The film also belongs to Dulquer Salmaan who is exceptionally terrific as Gemini Ganeshan. He’s charming. He’s also egoistic. He gets the part perfectly well. The film mainly belongs to Keerthy and Dulquer and they hold our attention.

Among other roles, Samantha as journalist, Vijay Deverakonda as Samantha’s lover, Rajendra Prasad as Savitri’s uncle, Divyavani as Savitri’s mother and Shalini Pandey as Savitri’s friend are impressive.

Naga Chaitanya as ANR is passable. NTR’s role has been done digitally. Mohan Babu as SVR is also just okay. Prakash Raj as Chakrapani has acted like any regular character. Other actors who reprised the legendary characters of movie world are okay.

Technical Excellence: A period movie like this shines only when the production design and cinematography is excellent. The art directors have brought in believable sets of bygone era. The trams, Mount Road in Madras have been recreated well. However, some sets look gaudy.

Cinematography is top class. The Hollywood cinematographer Dani has used black & white, technicolor and color tones to tell various periods perfectly well.

Mickey J Meyer’s music is a huge plus point. Though some songs are dull, his background score has elevated the mood and brought out the right emotions. Two duets on Keerthy and Dulquer are lilting and shot brilliantly. Editing is neat, but the pace is slow. Dialogues are melodramatic.

Analysis: “Mahanati” deals with the biography of Savitri, known as the greatest actress Telugu cinema has ever produced. The life of Savitri is known to many, but in this film, the director has revealed the unknown facets of her life and her character.

To those who have read the biography of Savitri, there are no surprises in this story that is narrated by Nag Ashwin. However, he holds interest by adding a mystery angle in the beginning.

He begins the story when Savitri falls ill and she is brought to hospital in pathetic condition. Then he introduces the journalist Madhuravani who comes to know that Savitri wrote a letter to Sankarayya.

Who is this mystery man? Nobody who knows Savitri well is aware of the identity of Sankarayya. As she probes to know the mystery person, we come to know the life of Savitri.

It is revealed that Savitri’s father died when she was just six months’ baby and she saw a father figure in her uncle Chowdhary (played by Rajendra Prasad), but she continued to miss her father throughout her life.

Slowly, the director unveils the story of how Savitri is trained by her uncle to become an actress, how she got rejected initially by LV Prasad and how she met Gemini Ganeshan who played an instrumental role in her becoming an actress.

Further most, the director moves to establish the love story between Savitri and Gemini Ganeshan, her successes, her films and later how her success makes Gemini Ganeshan jealous. Everyone knows this story mostly.

What is sparsely talked about is her alcoholism. This is where Nag Ashwin is very truthful and reveals another facet of Savitri. Why she got addicted to alcohol, what drove her to lose all her money and her husband and how she ended up being a loner. This is narrated in a most emotional and convincing way by the director.

While the scenes of Savitri becoming actress and KV Reddy and other actors praising that she would be remembered for years to come is full of drama and unnatural, the director’s strength comes out in the sequences involving Savitri’s off-screen personality and her life with her husband.

The love story between Savitri and Gemini Ganeshan is the highlight of the movie. The director shows his brilliance even more in Savitri’s humane side of helping other people, her nature of trusting all and her loneliness.

Nag Ashwin also brings out little known side of Savitri, her flamboyant lifestyle of playing tennis, participating in car races too.

The director also ends the movie in an emotional way. Despite slow pace and some over melodrama, it ends as a terrific portrayal of a great actress.

“Mahanati” is a perfect ode to a great actress that is told in a touching manner with spellbinding performance from Keerthy Suresh. Movie lovers will definitely connect with this story, but normal audiences may find it as a bit of documentary. But definitely, this is a story of an illustrious actress that every movie lover should watch.

Maha samudram movie review

maha samudram is a film that has generated a lot of buzz in recent days. has been released on a large scale today and let’s see how it is.

The film is set in Vizag and is about two close friends, Vijay (Siddharth) and Arjun (Sharwanand). vijay has a girlfriend named maha(aditi rao) and is looking for easy money. After a tragic turn of events involving a don from the underworld, he escapes from Vizag leaving his pregnant lover Maha (Aditi Rao) and Arjun in deep trouble. This is also the time when Arjun’s uncle Chunchu Mama (Jagapathi Babu) forces Arjun to engage in smuggling in Vizag. arjun jumps in and decides to take care of an annoying maha as well. When things seem to be going well with his life, Vijay suddenly returns with a vengeance to kill Arjun for cheating on him. how all these problems are solved forms the basic story of maha samudram.

positive points:

The film’s production values ​​are very good. the way the movie is set in vizag also looks impressive. aditi rao looks good and suits his role well, but he doesn’t have much to do in the last part of the movie.

siddharth comes back strong and is good when he plays bad guy in the second half. rao ramesh is the best of all in the negative role of him. His appearance, dialogue delivery and his acting are all top notch in the movie.

Saranya is impeccable in her role. Anu Emanuel is also effective in his small role. jagapathi babu once again impresses as chunchu mava. the camera work is quite impressive as the images are top notch.

last but not least, sharwa does an excellent job as arjun. he shows good intensity in his role and carries the movie on his shoulders. all the scenes of him with siddharth are well handled.

negative points:

maha samudram has multiple demerits. ajay bhupathi’s first movie, rx100 had a strong sticking point and that is missing a lot in this movie. the chosen story is simple and does not have as many twists as expected.

ajay bhupathi has written fantastic characters for each actor and has also presented them well. but the drama between the characters in the second half lacks focus and lacks depth. siddharth leaves vizag and not much is known about him. jagapathi babu character chart is incomplete at the end.

the second half is a disappointment and the way the director handled the character of siddharth seems uneven and lacks clarity. he also returns at the end of the story and when everyone thinks there will be a lot of animosity between the two heroes, things are over in a jiffy.

technical aspects:

Technically, the film is quite strong and has excellent visual effects. separate mention deserves the production design and the dialogues as well. chaitan bhardwaj’s music is also good as is his bgm.

referring to director ajay bhupathi, surely he has not lived up to the hype created after his first film. the canvas of him, actors, performances and backdrop are perfect, but the necessary conflict and drama in the film is missing. When you expect big action, excitement and confrontation to happen, Ajay loses control of the movie and drags her for no reason.

Overall, maha samudram does not live up to the hype created. the film has an impressive backdrop and solid drama possibilities, but they are not used well. Considering the good star cast and heartfelt performances, this movie may stand a chance this festive season. but go in with your expectations in check.

After NTR Kathanayakudu, all eyes are on NTR Mahanayakudu. The second part is based on NTR’s historic journey in politics. The film had its premiere at AMB Cinemas yesterday evening and has finally hit the screens today. Let’s see whether the film succeeds in living up to the hype and expectations.

NTR Mahanayakudu’s story begins with NTR (Nandamuri Balakrishna) launching the Telugu Desam Party. He then tours across the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and campaigns on his iconic Chaitanya Ratham, with his son Harikrishna (Kalyan Ram) as his charioteer.

With the massive public support, NTR becomes the Chief Minister. The real drama begins when NTR loses power due to a political conspiracy. How NTR fights his way back to power and how his better half Basavatarakam (Vidya Balan) loses her battle with cancer form the main crux of the film.

Plus Points:

Simply put, Balakrishna shoulders the film with his one-man show. He delivers a fiery performance in his father NT Rama Rao’s role. Especially, Balayya’s power-packed acting in the confrontational scene with Indira Gandhi about Telugus’ self respect and his subtle histrionics and expressions in the Assembly scene will enthrall his fans. On the whole, NTR biopic will be remembered as one of Balayya’s finest performances in his career.

National award-winning actress, Vidya Balan as Basavatarakam brings in emotion and depth to this political drama. She looks endearing in the scenes showcasing her love for her ‘bava’ NT Rama Rao. Bollywood actor Sachin Khedkar gets a meaty role and does quite well as NTR’s friend turned foe, Nadendla Bhaskara Rao.

Kalyan Ram as his father Harikrishna and Rana Daggubati as NTR’s son-in-law Nara Chandrababu Naidu give decent performances. Rest of the actors like Bharath Reddy as NTR’s another son-in-law Daggubati Venkateswara Rao and Vennela Kishore as Rukmangadha Rao are adequately utilized by director Krish.

Minus Points:

Too much of drama happens at breakneck speed, and it gives a serious tone to the movie. The scenes between NTR and his wife Basavatarakam lack the required depth and it leads to a half-baked subplot.

The climax, which showcases Basavatarakam’s death, looks abrupt and is slightly underwhelming. It could have been narrated in a better manner.

Technical Aspects:

Special mention must be given to Krish for the way he maintains drama and emotions in NTR’s political and personal lives. Right from penning an intense script that showcased NTR’s journey which was full of ups and downs to extracting fine performances from his actors, Krish has done a commendable job.

Veteran music composer MM Keeravani shows his genius yet again with his thematic background score that highlights the intensity and drama in the narrative. Cinematography by VS Gnana Shekar is realistic, as a majority of the film was shot in real locations and outdoors. Ramakrishna’s editing should have been a bit sharp in a couple of elaborate political scenes.

Art Director Sahi Suresh too deserves a pat for keeping the milieus as realistic as possible. Writer Sai Madhav Burra plays to the gallery as he elevates NTR’s magnanimity and firebrand attitude with his dialogues. The film’s production values are decent.

On the whole, NTR Mahanayakudu showcases NTR, the legendary politician, to the current generation. Balakrishna’s splendid performance as NT Rama Rao and Krish’s deft handling of the political events that rattled Andhra Pradesh in the late 80s are the major highlights of this political drama. On the flip side, the abrupt climax, the serious tone throughout the film and a slightly underwhelming subplot between NT Rama Rao and his wife Basavatarakam may hinder the film’s prospects to an extent. NTR Mahanayakudu is definitely a one-for NTR fans but for the regular audience the film may end up as just a one time watch.
