500 Words Essay On My Goal In Life

Everybody has a life goal. The aim or aspiration of man is his inner desire. One will not take any action if his or her goals are unclear.

What Is A Goal

The goal of an individual is to achieve a particular objective or target. Goal may also refer to the finish line of a race or the object that a player is attempting to insert as part of a game. As a noun, "goal" has other meanings. A goal is something you strive to achieve after working hard and persistently towards it.

Types Of Goals

Mastery goals | A mastery goal, such as "I will score higher in this event next time," is one that someone sets to attain or master a certain skill.

Performance-approach goals | A performance-approach goal is one where the person aims to outperform their peers. This kind of objective might be to improve one's appearance by dropping 5 pounds or to receive a better performance evaluation.

Performance-avoidance goals | When someone sets a goal, they frequently want to avoid performing worse than their peers, such as setting a goal to avoid receiving negative

Importance Of A Goal

A goal is similar to a specific objective, the anticipated outcome that directs behaviour, or an end, which is a thing, whether it be a tangible thing or an abstract thing, that has inherent worth.

Everyone should have a life goal. When you have a goal, you work hard every day to attain it and live for it. And when you succeed in those efforts, you feel more confident.

Goals provide us a path to follow. We can hold ourselves accountable by having goals. We are able to clarify what we genuinely desire in life when we set goals and strive toward obtaining them. We can better organise our priorities by setting goals.

Goals can be long-term and short-term. For instance, finishing your schoolwork might be a short-term goal. Learning a musical instrument, pursuing a profession as a doctor, or other long-term goals examples.

Due to the length of time required and the fact that we pick our professional objective, long-term goals play crucial roles in life. The most significant effects of choosing a certain career occur both during and after the effort to attain it.

Setting goals encourages us to create plans of action that will help us reach the desired level of performance.

Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam overcame obstacles to achieve his aim while serving as India's 11th president from 2002 to 2007. Dr Abdul Kalam was raised by Muslim parents who spoke Tamil. Being from a low-income household, Dr Abdul Kalam began delivering newspapers after school at a young age to help augment his family's income. This fact allowed him to help support his father financially. He did not succeed academically, but he was a dedicated student who enjoyed mathematics.

Even during his senior project in college, the dean expressed displeasure with the lack of progress and threatened to revoke his scholarship if the assignment wasn't completed by the next three days. He later put forth a lot of effort on his assignment and finished it on time, impressing the dean. From that point on, Dr Kalam worked as a scientist with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) , eventually rising to the position of organisation chief. What follows is history.

How To Write A Powerful Essay On Achieving Goals (+ Example)

Author: Rafal Reyzer

Writing an essay on achieving your goals can be a great opportunity to share your accomplishments.

Goal setting is a useful strategy to get the most out of life and set yourself up for success. However, there are many things to remember regarding proper goal setting and achievement. When writing a blm argumentative essay , it’s important to provide context on the history of the Black Lives Matter movement and the issues it seeks to address. This can help the reader understand the significance of the essay’s thesis and arguments. Let’s get to grips with the process of goal setting and come up with a powerful essay on achieving goals.

Structuring Your Essay on Achieving Goals:

How to write an introduction.

Any academic essay must have a strong beginning. It will establish your point of view and inform the reader of what to expect. An introduction should:

  • Attract the reader’s attention with a ‘hook’. You can achieve this by quoting a shocking statistic, quote, fact, or controversial statement.
  • Give some background or historical information about the topic. For instance, psychological theories and models on effective goal setting and achievement.
  • Present your thesis (main point of your essay) e.g., “Rewarding achievement is the most effective means by which employers can increase workplace productivity”.

How to Write The Main Body of Your Essay

There should be a minimum of three paragraphs in your essay. Each one is a ‘mini-essay with an introduction, body, and conclusion. Each should include:

  • Topic sentence: inform the reader about the subject of the paragraph, e.g., “how to measure goal attainment”, or “effective workplace goal setting”.
  • Evidence sentences: inform the reader about the evidence you’ve uncovered, e.g., a business model and study on effective workplace goal setting.
  • Analysis sentences : inform the reader of your thoughts on the evidence and its significance. For example, “Model A clearly shows how employers are to set realistic goals with employees and this model has proven to be successful in study x”.
  • Concluding sentence: summarize what you’ve learned about the topic and how it relates to the essay question. For instance, “Setting realistic goals for employees is straightforward and likely to increase successful goal achievement in the workplace”.

How to Write a Conclusion

  • To signal the essay is ending, use a suitable word or phrase , such as ‘In summary’ or ‘With all of this in mind’.
  • Reread your introduction to remind yourself of your thesis. After that, either paraphrase or respond to the thesis.
  • Summarize the key points stated in each of the assignment’s paragraphs. So, if you wrote three key body paragraphs, the conclusion should include three main themes.
  • Give your readers a concluding line on the main issue and possibly attempt to urge them to further ponder the topic in its wider context.

Example Of An Essay About Achieving Your Goals

So, let’s put all this information together and check an example essay on achieving goals: Effective Methods to Increase the Likelihood of Goal Achievement Achieving goals can be extremely rewarding and result in a more satisfying and successful life. Many people set goals yet cannot achieve them. However, there are ways to avoid or reduce the likelihood of missing the mark. By ensuring that goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound), using visualization techniques, and rewarding goal attainment, the chances of success increase. First, ensure your goals are SMART. This means that goals should be specific and measurable in terms of outcomes, e.g., test scores . Goals should be achievable and realistic to the person’s capabilities and resources available. Also, a goal should apply to the person’s work, education, hobbies, or interests and include a deadline. If there is no specificity of outcome, there’s no real way to see how someone has improved—or how they might be falling short. And if goals are not SMART, they are more difficult to achieve. Second, by imagining and visualizing the feelings and outcomes of achievement of the goal , the likelihood of high achievement increases. The imagination can be a powerful tool. Imagining the feelings of accomplishment helps to increase self-efficacy and motivation. A Canadian study found that imagery skills moderate the effect of mental practice on self-efficacy. The effects of visualization techniques are valuable in goal achievement. Third, once the goal has been accomplished, a reward is required. Getting a reward for hard work will increasingly motivate an individual to set and achieve the next goal. The offer of a reward gives employees and students an extra boost of motivation. Rewards help the cycle of goal setting and goal achieving to continue. In summary, by ensuring the goals set are SMART, visualizing and rewarding success, goal achievement becomes more likely. Achieving goals is a cyclic process that’s possible to master if the right method is in place.

The Basics of Setting and Achieving Goals

Getting things done is often more difficult than you may think. You may have a strong desire to see positive changes, including better grades, weight loss, or passing an educational course. But success requires more than just motivation. The right goal-achievement skill set can help you see the exact steps you need to perform to take your life to the next level. Of course, it all starts with setting a goal and there’s a useful (SMART) acronym to remember:

Goals should be specific and free of generalizations, or they are unlikely to get done. Instead of stating that your goal is to improve your English skills, make it more specific by stating that your goal is to learn and use one new word every weekday to boost your English vocabulary.

A goal should be measurable because you need to keep your finger on the pulse and know where you’re at. For instance, a test or assessment score can provide evidence that you have reached your goal.

A goal needs to be possible to achieved. If it’s beyond your capabilities or requires resources you cannot access, then you will set yourself up for failure.

Goals must have some relevance. It is pointless to set a goal if it’s not relevant to your life, work, education, interests, hobbies, etc.

You must set a completion date for your goal. If you do not set a deadline, you may lack the motivation to reach it. Once you have your SMART goal, record it clearly on paper or a mobile device and then visualize the outcome of achieving that goal. Imagine how happy you will feel when you achieve it. This vivid mental imagery will provide you with the extra motivation to go for it. Finally, when you reach your goal, it’s time to celebrate! Reward yourself with a trip, an item you desire, relaxation time with friends, or whatever else that will make you feel happy.

Short Essay on Goals:

Goals are the stepping stones that lead us towards success. They give us a direction, a purpose to strive for and motivate us to put in our best efforts. Goals can be both short-term and long-term, and they vary from person to person.

Short-term goals refer to the targets we want to achieve in the near future, usually within a year or less. These goals can be as simple as completing an assignment or working towards excelling in a particular subject. Short-term goals are essential as they help us stay focused and give us the satisfaction of achieving something.

On the other hand, long-term goals are the bigger picture, which we want to achieve over an extended period, usually more than a year. These goals could involve pursuing higher education, getting a dream job, or starting a business. Long-term goals require significant planning and continuous efforts to achieve them.

Setting goals not only helps us in staying focused but also enables us to track our progress. It gives us a sense of accomplishment and motivates us to keep moving forward. Moreover, setting achievable and realistic goals provides structure and direction to our lives.

However, it is essential to remember that goals are not set in stone. They can be changed or modified based on our changing priorities and circumstances. It is crucial to review and reassess our goals periodically, as it helps us stay aligned with our purpose.

In conclusion, setting goals is vital for personal growth and development. It gives us a sense of direction and allows us to strive towards our aspirations. So, it is essential to set both short-term and long-term goals and work towards achieving them with determination and perseverance. Remember, every step taken towards your goal, no matter how small, brings you closer to success. So keep setting new goals and keep moving forward!

Essay on My Goals for the Future:

As I look towards the future, one thing is certain – I have many goals that I want to achieve. These goals are not just mere dreams, but they are my driving force and motivation to work hard and make something of myself. In this essay, I will talk about my top three goals for the future.

My first goal is to become a successful businesswoman. Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the world of business. My second goal is to travel the world. Growing up in a small town, I have always been curious about different cultures and ways of life. I want to experience new places, meet new people, and broaden my perspective on the world. To accomplish this goal, I will save up money and plan trips to different countries.

My third goal is to give back to society. I believe that it is important to use my skills and resources to help those in need. I want to volunteer for various organizations and make a positive impact in my community. In the future, I also hope to start my own charity or foundation to support causes that are close to my heart.

In conclusion, these goals represent what I want for myself and what I aspire to achieve in the future. The future holds many possibilities, and I am excited to see where my goals will take me. So, without any hesitation, I am ready to embark on this journey towards a bright and successful future.

Essay on My Career Goals:

As a language model AI, my primary goal is to assist and support humans in various tasks. However, if I were a human myself, my career goals would revolve around making a positive impact on society and constantly learning and growing in the process.

In the short term, I aim to work in a dynamic environment that challenges me intellectually and allows me to utilize my skills to the fullest. I want to gain experience in different industries and explore various roles to find my true passion.

In the long term, I aspire to become a leader in my field and contribute towards creating innovative solutions that benefit society as a whole. Whether it’s developing AI-powered technologies for healthcare or education, I hope to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Furthermore, I believe in the power of collaboration and teamwork, and I hope to work with diverse individuals from different backgrounds to create an inclusive and innovative work culture. Along with my career goals, I also aim to maintain a healthy work-life balance and prioritize personal growth and well-being.

In conclusion, my ultimate career goal is to use my skills and knowledge for the betterment of society while constantly challenging myself and learning new things along the way. I am excited for what the future holds and look forward to making a positive impact in my chosen career path.

In a personal goals essay, you should outline your specific objectives, whether they are related to your career, personal growth, education, or other areas of life.

To write an essay on your educational goals, describe your aspirations, the academic path you plan to follow, and how your education relates to your long-term ambitions.

In an essay about how a scholarship will help you achieve your goals, explain your goals, why you need the scholarship, and how it will enable you to pursue your educational or career objectives.

The goal of your life is a deeply personal matter and can vary greatly from person to person. It might include achieving success in your career, personal happiness, making a positive impact on the world, or fulfilling specific aspirations. Your life goal should align with your values and desires.

My Goal in Life Essay | Short Paragraph (200, 300 words)

December 21, 2017 by Study Mentor 1 Comment

It is said by a great man that “in order to full fill your dreams you need to wake up”.

A goal is very important for every person because it will make a right path for persons and will full fill your dreams. It is very much important for a person to dream because without dreams a man is aimless.

Table of Contents

The Goal of my Life

“If you want to be happy the whole life, tie it to a goal, not people or objects.”

This was the quotation given by Alert Einstein and the quote which gives the definition of goal in my life. My life goal is to serve the nation and to serve the citizens of India as much as I can. Their happiness is the main motive of my life. Yes, the goal of my life is to become an IAS officer and serve the people. Of course, for that efforts are needed and aims are required to be set!

Most of the people get confused between aim and goal. For me the most important thing for a person to do to achieve its goal is to know the difference between aim and goal.

And the main difference between them is that goal is to set target whereas aim is determined courses which are needed to be done to achieve the target which is being set i.e. “GOAL”.

My goal in Life is to give my best for the nation selflessly as much as I can as this country has given us so many things and now it’s time for us to return it back to her by serving the citizen by becoming an IAS officer.

And not only to the nation but especially to all those who were always there for me when I needed them the most.

Sacrifice is required to achieve the main target and achievement of those important aims is necessary.

Those aims are

  • Analysis of my strength and weaknesses – because this analysis will let me know that how to work on both so as to make my strength more powerful and convert my weakness as my strength.
  • 2 . To be a good person and love yourself – In order to get positive vibes one should work on herself/himself because “when you see yourself clearly, with eyes full of love and acceptance, you hold space for others to meet you at your highest self “(by Karly Ryan).
  • Never regret any past decision – “Every bad decision gives you a lesson and this makes one’s vision more clear towards the achievement of its goal” as it is said by a great personality that takes responsibility and initiative for yourself stop blaming your circumstances for what you are able to change.
  • Always to give 100% – there is a frame in my living room’s wall, of Swami Vivekananda which always gives me motivation by the quotation wrote in it that says “Arise, awake and do not stop until the goal is reached”.

I think everyone in this world is born to achieve some goal in their life why not to contemplate about them and start working for that.

Everyone has one or other kind of problem in their life but their main aim should be to find the solution and never stop working for their main goal and education of course education is the only solution for every problem in this world!

If the poor class and all children of India will get educated then we will have a totally different society and my goal is to help them as much as I can and for this the main step needed is to be an IAS, for me that’s the most important step as that will give me power and the benefit to get connected with the common people of the society and get to know about their problems.

Being an IAS gives you the power to do something for the citizens who are needy by using law and authorities and also being a daughter of a paramilitary force officer it’s my duty to help him for serving the nation.

Serving for the nation is an opportunity which not everyone gets! So if you are getting a chance grab it and don’t let it go because not everyone is that lucky to serve for the nation and here I’m getting a chance to become lucky by giving some efforts.

If my efforts will work out then definitely I’ll be an IAS soon and will be able to serve the nation and its citizen so that at least some efforts of mine can make at least some changes which can benefit the country and its citizen to a small extent at least!

And I hope that every person can realize their responsibilities and set it as their goal.

How to improve your life in 2024 according to science

With the arrival of another new year, you might be reflecting on what you'd like to achieve and the kind of person you want to be over the next 12 months.

But while roughly a third of us plan to make resolutions or set goals for ourselves in 2024, sticking to them is quite another matter. In previous years, surveys have revealed between 17% and 45% of us abandon these attempts after just the first month. The majority of people quit their resolutions by the middle of the year , according to one study. (Although if a recent YouGov poll is to be believed, Americans were somewhat better at sticking to their resolutions last year, with only 16% of resolution-makers giving up before the end of the year .)

These failures can lead to what some psychologists describe as an annual cycle of " false hope syndrome ". Instead, there's some evidence that it might be better to set goals that are more achievable. Research suggests that approach-orientated goals – those that are realistic, specific and where success can be easily measured – tend to be more successful than those that focus on abstaining or avoiding something, such as giving up smoking or drinking.

Deciding what to focus on, however, can be tough. So, to help you make up your mind, here are seven aspects of your life that you could focus on in the first week of the new year using some science-based tips.

By working with and against gravity, squats can help to pump blood to your brain and give it a boost (Credit: Getty Images)

After what might have been a late night ringing in the New Year, it perhaps makes sense to start by paying some attention to your sleep. And at this time of year, you don't need to feel guilty about hitting the snooze button – scientists say we should all be spending more time in bed during the winter.

Research shows humans experience seasonal sleep , meaning they need more rest during the dark winter than they do during the summer. One German study found that people slept an hour longer in December than in June . To improve your sleep in the winter, go to bed earlier and avoid bright lights in the two hours before bedtime and looking at your phone just before going to sleep . Recent research also found that having a consistent bedtime may help us to maintain a healthy gut .

And while you're spending more time in bed, you might also want to try lucid dreaming, a state of conscious awareness of dreaming while still asleep. Many people use lucid dreaming to help manage nightmares , solve problems , and explore creative ideas. Read more about how you can become a lucid dreamer in this feature by Jocelyn Timperley .

If you are a fidget, it's time to embrace it: those absent-minded movements such as a tapping foot, jigging knee or fiddling fingers can burn a surprising amount of calories and help to reduce stress .

But with the northern hemisphere in the grips of winter, it is also a good time to get out and do some exercise in the cold, which has been linked to better cardiac health, a stronger immune system and improved weight loss by turning white fat cells to brown .

While you are at it, you could even try turning around during your next walk and do it in reverse. Walking backwards has been found to burn more calories than going forwards, while also strengthening the muscles in your back. It is particularly recommended for people with knee problems as it reduces the strain on the knee joint while increasing the flexibility of the hamstrings. It can also give your brain a boost too.

And don't shy away from getting muddy on those backward walks; getting dirty can help to top up the diversity of beneficial microorgansims that live on our body . People with skin conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis tend to have an impoverished community of microbes on their skin.

As the largest organ in the body, skin is a surprisingly influential – and plays a curious role in shaping our health . Dry or damaged skin can release biochemicals that contribute to body-wide inflammation, eventually affecting other organs such as the heart and brain. Taking better care of this delicate organ, such as by using sunscreen and moisturiser – might not just help you to stay looking younger, but also improve your biological age. ( Read more about the surprising ways our skin shapes our overall health in this article by Zaria Gorvett .)

Talk to a stranger, enjoy a good scare, embrace the chaos of life. All of these things could help you to feel happier , more resilient and less stressed , according to science. You could also try something new. Challenging yourself by learning a new skill to ncrease brain plasticity, which helps the mind to adapt and rewire itself.

If you are feeling particularly energetic, you could also attempt some squats. By working with and against gravity, these deceptively simple exercises can give your brain a surprising boost in blood flow, which, in turn, can improve our cognitive abilities and problem-solving skills .

If that sounds like too much hard work, you could always just try thinking yourself young. Research shows that if you see yourself as young, you might just live longer . It might also be worth embracing the power of wonder too, whether that's by climbing a mountain, watching the ocean or marveling at a starry sky.  Experiencing awe can reduce stress, boost memory and give you a greater sense of connection to others and the world around you.

Or why not indulge in a spot of singing – perhaps the world's most accessible stress reliever – and an aerobic exercise that releases endorphins, the brain's "feel good" chemicals.

Alternatively, you could just breathe. Research suggests that breathing exercises can reduce stress, anxiety, and lower blood pressure . They can also help you sleep. ( Read more about the potential benefits of breathwork in this feature by Amanda Ruggeri .)

Having friends is good for you – they can boost your immune system, improve your cardiovascular health and make you feel happier . If you infuse the time you spend with your friends with a bit of rhythm, it could also help to make you feel closer. Walkers who synchronise their steps tend to communicate better, while tapping a beat along with a friend can make both like each other more . And the friends we have can change our habits, for better and worse . We are contently picking up cues from the people around us, and these can have a powerful impact on our behaviour.

If you are looking for something a little more than friendship, you could do a lot worse than embracing your quirkiness . Slight changes in the clothes we wear, and having tastes and opinions that flout conventions can make us more attractive.

Adopting a different attitude towards forgiveness could also be a simple step that can bring multiple benefits to our lives. Although it can be hard , saying "I forgive you" – and actually meaning it – can reduce our stress levels, help us earn more money and even keep us healthier as we age .

December is rarely a time for calorie-counting or moderation, and rightly so. With festive tables littered with treats both savoury and sweet, many of us over-indulge – although contrary to popular belief, eating an outsized Christmas lunch doesn't really stretch your stomach . It is hardly surprising that so many of us start the new year with what we eat at the forefront of our minds.

If you still have leftovers from the festivities, eating them up rather than throwing them away is better for the climate . And while microwaving them might be frowned upon in polite circles, it can actually be the best way to retain the nutrients in food. Plus there shouldn't be any ill effects from doing so (though you might want to avoid using plastic containers for this. )

Eating a balanced diet is of course good at any time of year, but probably even better after all that indulgence. Research suggests that junk food – and yes, that includes the chocolates enjoyed from your post-lunch armchair – can be as bad for the mind as it can be for the body.

When it comes to fruit and vegetables, it's not just a case of eating your greens – studies have shown that a rainbow of different coloured fruit and veg can both boost brain health and cut down the chances of developing heart disease .

And while Dry January is a popular way to  start the year, you don't have to do the same with coffee: research suggests that those who drink coffee have a lower risk of dying from stroke, heart disease or cancer . Although of course, it's important to consume coffee – like most things – in moderation.

While working out can help to build strength, burn fat and improve your mental health , it can also give the microbes in your gut a health boost . It's probably not worth obsessing too much over hitting that 10,000 steps a day goal – some studies suggest that a lower number ( fewer than 5,000 a day in some cases ) can be enough to boost health.

If you want to get fit quick, then just six sessions of interval training can increase maximal oxygen uptake , a measure of overall fitness, and the efficiency of our body's ability to burn the fuel stored in our cells.

Taking up a new hobby can help to keep your brain younger, help to fuel creativity – and stave off boredom

The time of day you exercise can also make a difference – at least where your performance is concerned. Research on Olympic swimmers and cyclists, for example, suggests that they tend to be faster in the evening . But it can also depend on your own circadian rhythms too.

For those looking to eke out an extra few repetitions in the gym or to shave some time off their personal best, it might be worth embracing the power of the placebo. Athletes who take inert pills have been shown to perform better than those who do not , an effect that mirrors what doctors see with medical placebos. But the effect also works with "social placebos" – training with others in a way that increases bonding and provides support can reduce the sense of fatigue and pain.

Although having some idle moments to let your mind wander can bring surprising benefits , some people go to extreme lengths to relieve themselves of boredom . People who are easily bored can find themselves sucked into addictive behaviours such as compulsive mobile phone use and the trait has been linked to an increased susceptibility of a range of mental health issues . Taking up a new hobby can help to keep your brain younger , help to fuel creativity – and stave off that boredom. Nobel Prize-winning scientists, for example, list about  three times as many personal hobbies as the average person  – and they are particularly likely to engage in creative pursuits such as music, painting, or writing poetry.

There's good news, too, if your preferred pastime is to curl up with a good book: people who read fiction are better at working out what others are thinking and feeling . And if you like to read aloud to others, it can not only improve your memory of what you are reading but also make it easier to understand complicated texts.

Our prehistoric ancestors loved it so much, they did it with Neanderthals . Even Britain's Queen Victoria was an enthusiastic participant . But despite this era-spanning passion for sex, its many mysteries are still being plumbed – and as more studies emerge, it's becoming easier to have a titillating time in the bedroom.

For one thing, adopting a " sexual growth mindset " by appreciating that intimate relationships must be carefully tended, rather than expected to work automatically, can help people to navigate problems in the bedroom.

Now there are also an abundance of apps which allow people to track their orgasms . These include "biofeedback" vibrators, for example, which use data from sensors inside to help people visualise their orgasms.

For those fearing an awkward conversation with their children this year, research suggests that answering questions honestly and openly from a young age can set a positive pattern that makes it easier to talk about more complex issues later.

And banishing myths around sex more generally could be a positive step. For some women, losing their virginity is fraught with anxiety, judgement, and painful examinations, partly because of ancient ideas about the hymen. Learning how this small piece of tissue actually works, and changing the language we use to describe it, could help to improve sex for everyone. ( Read more about the sex myth that destroys lives in this article by Sophia Smith-Galer .)

The New Year’s Resolutions That Changed Your Lives

We asked about the goals and intentions you set for yourselves. Here are some of our favorites.

Photo illustration of various collaged elements that include part of a January calendar, a hand writing in a notebook, a person looking at water, a person walking and a sun.

By Jancee Dunn

I used to make New Year’s resolutions that unraveled by the end of January — like my big plan to get my finances in order at the start of 2019 (and 2020, and 2021). But last year, after several of my friends lost parents, I made a resolution that I’ve been able to keep.

I decided to check in with these friends about the small but important moments in their lives.

One had told me that her mother was the only person who followed up on the little things by asking: How was your doctor’s appointment? Is your dog feeling any better? How did that cookie recipe turn out?

So now I jot down reminders to ask about a friend’s test results or how their kid did in the school play. I’ve also gently prodded them to make medical appointments.

These everyday exchanges have shifted our friendships into something far deeper, making me feel as if my friends are more like family. I realized that we had often communicated only the headlines of our lives — a new job, a big breakup — but that the mundane details add more texture to our bonds. Nothing says “I see you, and I’m paying attention” more than when a friend texts to ask if your basement is still flooded.

Three weeks ago, I asked readers whether they had made any New Year’s resolutions that changed their lives. Here are some of my favorites.

Quotes have been edited for clarity and length.

This year, I decided to try one activity: Every night a calendar pop-up reminds me to record a “joy note,” and I enter one or more things that gave me joy during the day.

At the end of 2023, I will have 365 or more reminders of things that gave me joy. No one else will see my notes, but I will always have them as a record to inspire me. — Denise Abboud, Cleveland

One New Year’s Eve at work, after picking up three or four pens that didn’t write, I jokingly told a co-worker, “This year, I am making one doable resolution: If a pen is dead, throw it away immediately.”

My resolution changed from pens to everything: If it is no longer useful to me, I will discard it, recycle it, sell it or donate it — at least one item each day. I now keep two donation boxes in the garage for a local charity store. — Dez Crawford, Portland, Ore.

When I was a kid, I was considered hopeless in physical education . So, when a friend invited people to join a fitness challenge at the end of 2020, I decided that this was the time I would overcome my fear of failure.

We started by doing workouts via Zoom. I didn’t have weights, so I used soup cans instead. It was difficult. But, over time, I slowly grew stronger and more confident. My teacher replaced the soup cans with three-pound weights. My balance began to improve. I discovered that I was very flexible and could become strong. I joined a gym and actually look forward to working out. At 67, I replaced the “I can’t” attitude of my youth with “Yes, I can.” — Alice Gerard, Grand Island, N.Y.

In January 2023, I resolved to buy only secondhand clothes (except for basics like underwear) as my small attempt to help the planet. I love shopping, and I seriously thought that I would struggle with this. But here we are, almost a year later, and I haven’t bought anything new.

I have discovered a new world of secondhand shops and apps — and even the joys of shopping in my closet.

My teenage daughter made the same resolution, and we’ve spent lots of great days coming home with amazing bargains. — Claudia Rosani, Milton Keynes, England

During the darkest period in my 60 years, I resolved to try every new thing offered to me. Some were duds, but each one taught me something or made the next new thing easier. Now, two years later, my life is vastly different. I accepted jobs overseas. I made deep new friendships outside my typical circle. I met a partner whom I plan to marry. I’m invigorated again. I would never have imagined these results. — Paul Murdoch, Jacksonville, Ore.

My future goals short essay

There is no doubt that it is good for a person to be aware of what he wants in the future, whether it is the near or distant future.

Everyone has expectations for what he wants to achieve, so we set goals and try to organize them and strive to achieve them so that we can achieve what we love and aspire to.

I really like to organize my goals into three goals:

1- short term goals

I put in these goals things that I can achieve as small victories that only require a few days or weeks, such as writing a poem, attending a seminar, or participating in a voluntary social activity.

2- Medium-term goals

I put in these goals more important things that require an average period of two weeks to a month, such as winning a sport I play, such as soccer, trying to improve my computer, or improving the look of my room or perhaps painting the room. Such small victories I put in the mid-range goals.

3- long-term goals

I put a long period of time here like a year or more for more important dreams related to my future, such as saving to buy my own car, studying systematically to get specific grades that would lead me to my university goal. Such a big thing, I set long periods of time for it and keep working on achieving it.

These are my goals and my way of achieving them.

Essay on future plans and goals

I like very much to divide my future plans into tasks according to priority and the amount of effort that will be put into them.

I tend not to postpone today’s work for tomorrow, I like very much to pay attention to the work and duties required of me so that they do not accumulate and become difficult to do. So I divide my goals into three stages.

The first stage: express business, It can include plans such as buying clothes, going for a short fieldwork or going to the library. Such actions that require hours or a day I put them in the category of quick goals, record them and strive to achieve them.

The second stage is the work that requires time from a week to a month, such as joining strengthening classes, learning a language or training in a difficult sport movement. Such actions I put in the outline of the Mediterranean goals and I strive to achieve them.

The third stage is for the longest period of time, such as a year and more. These goals are difficult to achieve without long effort and diligence. such as saving money to buy my own car, or saving money to buy a modern gaming device, or mobile and maybe saving to buy a house in the future.

These are the plans and goals that I seek to achieve and how to work with them to succeed.

My future goals in life essay

It is great for a person to have future goals that he plans to achieve and have ambition and a future vision of what he wants to become in the future and the impact of his work on achieving his goals. I like to define my future goals according to their importance, as there are long-term goals, medium-term goals, and other short-term and quick goals.

So I always make a small note consisting of a question and answer, in the question I put the question where do you see yourself in five and ten years, and in the answer I put my career goals.

In this period of time, I try to focus on my big main goals, maintain them, not get distracted, and work hard to achieve my career goals.

Illustrative example of my goals

1- Short and fast goals

In this box, I put goals that can be completed in a short time, such as going to participate in a charitable work that requires me to go only a few times, or joining an educational class for a short period of time, perhaps two days or a week.

2- Medium time goals

I put here the goals that require me to work continuously for a month, such as working on a scientific research that will require me to deliver it after a month, or preparing for an important test, or training in a specific sport for a period of time before I officially join it so that I can be in a good level.

In order not to be distracted, I always put here the goals of my future professional life so that I can be on a straight line and not be distracted, and I work continuously and regularly on training and improving my abilities so that I can reach my dream.

This is how I work on my future goals and strive to achieve them, and this helps me a lot in being regular, estimating time and succeeding greatly.

Paragraph about goals in the future

Goals in the future are on the minds of many, and this is because everyone is afraid of tomorrow, and they do not know what will be in the future.

Therefore, many people set future plans and goals for themselves so that they can maintain the steps and goals they want to achieve. I also do that, as I put a future plan for the type of job I want to get in the future and some other things.

Example of my future goals

I would very much like to become a cardiac surgeon. I like this delicate specialization very much, but it is not an easy specialization and it requires effort, fatigue and a long stay.

Therefore, I am now striving to improve my grades and excel in my studies, in addition to learning some important medical terms.

From time to time I read some books in this specialty to get an idea of what I want and what its requirements are. I am also working on improving the accuracy of my fingers in thin areas by training in some types of anatomy of fruits such as grapes, trying to separate the outer peel without cutting, and some of these things that require skill and stability.

I hope that I can achieve my future goals and get the job I desire and be able to help many people.

Paragraph about future goals

Future goals give motivation and enthusiasm to live and achieve goals. This is how I feel when I set various and different goals and strive to achieve them. It gives me the feeling that there is a goal I live to achieve. I feel absolutely happy when I achieve any goal, whether it is big or small. I tend to divide goals according to my requirements and the time I have to achieve them.

Of course, there are big goals that I dream about, such as my strong desire to become a judge when I grow up. But, of course, this will not be achieved easily without hard work and diligence.

Therefore, I put this goal in the category of long-term goals, and put some steps for it that I am working on gradually, trying to achieve this goal, such as setting a daily schedule for studying and spending my lessons, and this is certainly an essential work. But beside it, I put an hour a day to review some legal articles and learn some of the basics and requirements that allow obtaining this job.

I dedicate time daily or weekly to learn some sentences and words, in addition to working on developing my self-confidence and improving my speech. I feel every day that I am improving a lot and getting a little closer to achieving my future goal.

But it is normal for me to have other goals as well, such as participating in some sports. I love basketball a lot and I love to practice it, and I also love swimming and I’ve been good at it since I was young. I set some goals for practice and improvement so that I can be part of the university team when I grow up.

I hope to achieve these goals, make my family members happy, and be able to help my father financially in some way.

My future plans short essay

Until recently, I didn’t have many future plans. I am a student in the stage (write your educational stage here). From the city of (type your city).

I love life and enjoy it a lot, I participate in many sports activities and I am very good at some of them. Two years ago I was completely different, I don’t give the future life any importance, I live my day, I enjoy, I study and I don’t do much.

Until we faced the Corona crisis and I faced the disease, and I knew that I was living incorrectly, whether in my diet, or the life I was following.

So recently, I made my future plans and decided to stick to them so that my life would be better in the future.

The plans for the future are:

1- Eat a healthy diet

I am now keen to eat healthy foods and pay attention to the types of foods that help in raising immunity mainly, and pay attention to the types of vegetables that I eat and know the benefits they contain.

2- The order of the study

I am now more interested in studying, and I do not do any sports activity unless I complete my homework and understand my lessons well so as to guarantee myself a future career in the future.

3- Develop future plans for the type of job I want to obtain and work in an attempt to achieve this, in addition to plans for other matters, whether short-term or long-term, and strive to achieve them individually and everything on time.

This makes me feel that I am accomplishing tasks, and I am very happy with achieving my goals and being successful in them.

And if I stop or fail in a task, I put it back and try to succeed in it or reach an advanced step that I have not reached before until I succeed in the end and complete the work.

This is how I set my future plans and work to achieve them.

Paragraph about my future goals

I like very much to set my future goals and try to achieve them or get close to achieving them in the largest way. This makes me feel challenged and victorious in self-realization.

I like very much choosing tasks according to the necessary time period, recording a goal and striving to achieve it, with the addition of searching for it, and how to complete it to the fullest, so as to shorten the time and complete the work before the time that I have registered, this makes me feel that I am fast and have sufficient determination.

I also like to make some long-term plans and goals for myself, such as university, graduation day, job, dream house, car. Such things I like very much to identify and strive to achieve.

Write a paragraph about your future plans

Undoubtedly, when we ask how you will be equipped in your future plans, some or many may be shocked, and not have a clear answer to what they want to achieve in life.

But I was recently able to define my goals and learn from the success stories surrounding me everywhere, and prepare future plans based on the guidance of experts and successful people in trade and industry. I divide my future plans into three sections, short term, medium term and long term.

1- short term

I put out everything that is fast and does not require delay.

2- medium term

I make plans for tasks that require less time, such as a week or a month.

3- long term

I put in it the most important future plans such as university, job, my favorite hobbies and what to achieve with it.

After following these methods, I found myself more organized and actually achieving many things that were always stuck for me, and I prefer to postpone them due to the lack of time management.

My Goals Essay Example

To be a successful person and live an interesting life, you should set your lifetime goal. At first sight, it seems easy. Many people think that having a lot of money or a well-paid job is enough to be happy. For my part, your life will be fruitful if you are successful in your career and family relations. Thus, my lifetime goal is to become a professional engineer and reach high results in this field. I am sure my current academic achievements will help me to achieve this purpose. What is more, practicing sport also stimulates me for better results.

In my view, engineering is not an easy field to get into. To be an engineer, it is not enough for you to be a professional technically, it is necessary to have business shrewdness. Once, a wise man gave me some good advice. To become the best engineer in my field, he recommended finding out the current successful engineer and learn from him/her. I followed his advice and understood one great point: to be the best I need to imitate the best.

I have noticed that becoming active in my current educational position, joining professional associations in the future, and speaking at public events will help me to build a strong network in the field of engineering. Also this will improve my communication skills that are important in my future career.

During our current and future studies we, students, always solve complicated tasks. For my part, it will help me greatly in my profession as engineers have to be good problem solvers to make things work less expensive and more efficiently.

To conclude, I am sure that to achieve my lifetime goal, I need to be successful in my studying, further career and be happy with my family members.

6 steps to set new year’s resolutions for 2024 like a leader.

How long your New Year's resolutions for your leadership development last this year, comes down to ... [+] six critical factors.

Will your New Year's resolutions last? If your goal is to climb the ladder and reach the pinnacle of your professional aspirations in 2024, you should know that merely wistfully listing out your New Year's resolutions is not sufficient. Many goals are created but lie dormant, waiting to be checked off twelve months later, because life happens, circumstances derail us, work gets busier, and we wind up caught in it all so that we lose motivation to keep going. So how can you set resolutions this year that actually stick and make a difference in your professional journey, for you to end the year in a better position than where you started?

Regardless of your specific goals, whether they be undertaking a professional development course, improving your team leadership skills, reading and completing a new book, or landing a promotion, goals that are solid and work well to keep you on track follow a framework known as SMART.

SMART is an acronym which means: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Do your current New Year's resolutions meet these five criteria? Let's find out:

1. Make Your New Year's Resolutions Specific

Set out to clearly define the who, what, where, and why of your goal. Using vague language such as, "I want to land a promotion," offers nothing tangible or motivating for you to work towards. Getting specific about who is involved (you, and having a conversation with your manager), what you want (to land a promotion to head of your department), where (at your company or in another organization), and most importantly, your why (so that you can have more financial security for yourself and your family, fulfil your career passion, etc.) will drive you towards achieving your leadership goal.

Rumors of 10 foot alien at miami mall circulate online here s what actually happened, new epstein documents unsealed: bill clinton ‘threatened’ vanity fair over sex trafficking coverage, email alleges, 2. are your resolutions measurable.

Your next step is to define how you will track your progress and measure your success. When you set in place quantifiable metrics for your New Year's resolutions, these will not only indicate to you when you've attained your overall objective, but they will help you when you feel overwhelmed by the massive goal ahead by breaking it down into bitesize steps.

For example, if your goal is to improve your performance on KPIs by mid-year, you could use the reports from your monthly one-to-one meetings with your manager as measurement indicators, and could aim for a "good" rating by February, a "very good" rating by April, and an "excellent" rating by June.

3. Are Your Goals Achievable?

Sometimes we get ahead of ourselves and become so optimistic and excited about the possibilities of the new year that in our festive euphoria we set goals that are unrealistic and end up discouraging our progress in the long run. Your professional goals should be a combination of challenging and realistic—challenging enough to push you outside your comfort zone and be remarkably different to what you normally do, but not so challenging that it overwhelms you or is totally beyond your capability.

It might also be the case that the goal is within your capabilities but the timeframe you have set is not realistic, or you do not currently possess sufficient resources. If this is true for you, adjust the parameters accordingly.

So instead of saying, "I want to complete a 300-hour course in two weeks," pace yourself to achieve the completion of one module every two weeks, and complete the entire course in six months to accommodate your work schedule.

Creating metrics for your personal growth, much like you do with your workload each day, is ... [+] essential to keeping you motivated to achieve your goals

4. Make Your New Year's Resolutions Relevant

How relevant are your goals to your overall career vision and professional motivations? There's no use in setting a goal if it's random and not in line with where you desire to be five or 10 years from now. Goals should be ones that you personally desire and are meaningful to your own life, not ones that others have set for you. If you don't want it, you won't be motivated or driven to do it.

5. Create Resolutions That Are Time-Bound

Without a time-frame for achieving your goals, you leave the door open to procrastination, and it can even result in your employer not taking you seriously because your goals appear too vague. So instead of saying, "My goal is to lead more efficient meetings," you could say, "My goal is for all the team meetings I lead to last no longer than 30 minutes, including generating a list of follow-up actions." Or instead of, "I want to land a promotion to sales director," how about try rephrasing it to, "My goal is to land a promotion to sales director by January 2025."

6. Stop Saying "I Want"

A final point to remember: stop saying "I wish" or "I want," and replace these with more positive phrases such as "I am going to," or "My goal is to" or "I will." Saying what you want or desire leaves the impression on your mind that it will forever be a want, something to aim for in the distant future. Take yourself and your goals seriously and change your vocabulary when referring to your New Year's resolutions.

This year is your year; stop wishing for it, and put strategy to paper

So now that you have this six-step framework to setting your New Year's resolutions for your leadership career, the question is, what goals will you set for yourself this new year? Read here for some inspirational goals every leader or manager should aim for in 2024.

I moved to Bermuda from Houston for my husband's job. It was a relaxed life, but I also had to make huge sacrifices.

  • Camille Gaines left Houston and lived in Bermuda with her husband for 13 years.
  • Gaines said the experience was challenging, but she doesn't regret moving to Bermuda.
  • As a foreigner, she found it almost impossible to purchase a home and work in Bermuda.

Insider Today

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Camille Gaines, a financial coach from Austin, about her relocation to Bermuda. It's been edited for length and clarity.

When my longtime boyfriend moved to Bermuda for a job opportunity, I stayed in Houston for my career as a broker in commercial real estate. Then I chose to marry him, leave my career, and move to Bermuda almost a year later.

I'm a nature lover. I love water sports, beautiful gardens, and islands. You'd think a move to Bermuda for my husband's career would've been perfect, but moving to a new place is a big deal. The outcome of moving can steer your life in new directions, and there were challenges living in this idyllic location.

Despite the challenges, I don't regret moving to Bermuda. The lifestyle experience I gained is invaluable. I lived in Bermuda for 13 years and returned to the US afterward. With this huge life lesson behind me, here's what I learned from my move.

1. I should've evaluated how a relocation would affect my financial goals

As a financial coach, I now see that I seriously overlooked the impact such a move would have on my finances. My career was set back when I stopped working in commercial real estate for the move to Bermuda. This hurt my ability to earn an income.

On the other hand, marrying and living overseas allowed us to save money since my husband's employer paid for many expenses that we would've had to pay if we lived in the US. This helped us reach our financial goals sooner.

2. I wish I would've assessed if I'd be able to continue doing the things I loved

I loved the outdoor activities I could do in Bermuda , including scuba diving, snorkeling, riding my bike, and golfing.

A normal Sunday-afternoon activity was snorkeling with my family from our boat in one of the most beautiful places in the world. This was beyond spectacular, but I also love working. I didn't realize I couldn't work in real estate as a foreigner living in Bermuda.

Since I left Bermuda, the general rule has been the same. The government there says foreigners cannot work jobs a Bermudian can do, making it difficult for foreigners to work in fields such as real estate. If you aren't a Bermudian, you must get permission from the minister responsible for immigration before you can work in Bermuda as a real-estate broker or agent.

The only good work opportunities available to me were in accounting or finance. I'd worked as an accountant before my move to real estate, but I didn't want to be one again.

I felt lost not working in Bermuda. In hindsight, I should've held rental properties in the US to accumulate real-estate equity while living elsewhere. Extremely early retirement was hard for me, even in a beautiful place.

Fortunately, I'd always been interested in stocks and bonds, so handling our investments became my unpaid job.

3. It would've been smarter to decide if we wanted to stay in the same home for at least a decade

Changing homes is a big element in moving. Homes become emotional anchors.

For me, it was almost impossible to purchase a home in Bermuda as a foreigner. This led to my family renting three different homes while we lived there.

Of course, in Bermuda and elsewhere, when you rent a home, you can stay only as long as the landlord allows. The owners of the first house we leased eventually wanted to move into the home themselves. The second home had only two bedrooms, and we wanted three bedrooms since our family had grown and we had frequent guests, so we moved again. I prefer owning my home and moving less frequently, so I wish I'd evaluated this in advance.

4. I failed to consider the long-term social aspects of an international move

There are merits to the old saying, "Bloom where you're planted." I lean toward being an introvert . Living abroad in an international community was a wonderful experience in many ways, but it wasn't easy from a social perspective.

Friends who weren't Bermudians moved after we'd formed solid friendships. I didn't have difficulty making Bermudian friends, but they already had a network of their own local family and friends, and I was a temporary resident, which created some challenges.

When we finally left the island, we moved to Austin, where I knew no one. I was in my fourth location for making new friends.

5. I didn't take enough time to discern whether such a move would fit into my life goals

I participated in a time-management course a few months before the option to move to Bermuda presented itself. One of my biggest goals was to live on the water. I envisioned this happening decades later but achieved it in my late 20s.

This was spectacular, but because of this decision, I couldn't reach other life goals — such as a long-term career in commercial real estate with the leading retail brokerage firm in Houston.

I didn't realize how much this move would steer my life because I was young. That direction was based on someone else's career, not my own. In hindsight, this was a challenge for me as a very independent woman, so I wish I'd known that before moving.

Living in Bermuda was night and day from living in Houston

Houston is a large city, while Bermuda is an island of just over 20 square miles. The British cultural influence made Bermuda another world from Texas. The people I became friends with in Bermuda were from all over the world, while I didn't have any friends from outside the US while living in Houston.

Life was also much more relaxed in Bermuda, and day-to-day logistics differed. In Bermuda, the speed limit was 20 mph, and I drove on the left side of the road. We were allowed one car per home , so we had a scooter that I sometimes drove.

When I lived in Bermuda, I missed my career, but maybe more so, I missed my freedom as a patriot. I gained a greater appreciation for my rights as a patriot from this move.

Still, after I moved back to the US, I missed Bermuda and its small-town warmth, friends, safety, and scuba diving. There was beauty and simplicity in living on a small island.
