Preparation

Film review: the harry potter film series.

The Harry Potter film series is famous all over the world and is loved by children, teenagers and adults. It's based on the books by JK Rowling. The first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone , was released in 2001. The whole series consists of eight fantasy films. In each film the main character, Harry, is played by Daniel Radcliffe.

The story begins when 11-year-old orphan Harry discovers that his parents were wizards and he starts his education in magic at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There he makes two close friends, Ron and Hermione, who share his adventures.

Each film ends dramatically, often with a battle between Harry and his worst enemy, the evil wizard Lord Voldemort.

The characters

As well as Harry, Ron and Hermione, there's a huge variety of characters, including students, professors, dark wizards, ghosts and fantasy creatures. Non-magic people are called Muggles. The cast is excellent. The acting's outstanding, and even the strangest of characters are totally believable.

The setting

The films are mainly set in Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which is in an ancient castle. There are moving staircases, portraits which can talk and move, and a dark forest where strange and dangerous creatures live.

The special effects

The special effects are amazing and make magic seem completely possible! The wizards' favourite sport, Quidditch, is played on broomsticks. Different techniques were used to create the effects that make the actors look as if they're flying.

Critic's opinion

The films are imaginative, funny, frightening and, of course, magical! What makes them so successful is that they combine action, fantasy and friendship.

If you like adventure and magic, you'll love the Harry Potter films!

Do you like the Harry Potter films? What other films do you like? Tell us about them!

Even though there is no actual Harry Potter in real life, J. K. Rowling drew her book inspiration based on a boy who lived just four doors down when she was a child. The boy's name was Ian Potter.

The most important symbol is the scar on Harry's forehead, which stands for the past, present, and the future. The scar is also a representative of Harry Potter's link to Lord Voldemort. The eternal fight between the good and evil.

Love is the main theme throughout the books because if you truly love someone, it cannot be taken away. The true love lasts forever as Harry Potter finds his identity and learns to fight against the tyrannical rule by Voldemort. It is an educational book where there is much more to that than it actually seems. Another great lesson is that true friendship can get you through anything. It is not the magic or being a wizard, but being a true friend and staying there for the ones you love.

It all starts when Harry Potter, an eleven year old English orphaned boy, learns that he is the son of two powerful wizards and has certain magical powers of his own. Joining Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards, he embarks on a magical journey, which helps him to find true friends and discover the truth about his parents.

  • "It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live." ― Albus Dumbledore
  • "Fawkes is a phoenix, Harry. Phoenixes burst into flame when it is time for them to die and are reborn from the ashes." — Albus Dumbledore
  • "It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be." ― Albus Dumbledore
  • "We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided." — Albus Dumbledore

The main message of the book is defeating evil with the power of love, sincerity, and friendship. The love grants protection, the logic and being smart helps to find the way and open the locked doors. It is more than just an entertaining story that reminds us once again that true friendship will stand through everything and that as long as you have your friend's back, you will challenge even the worst evil there is.

It is one of the most essential books for children and adults today, which makes it a great essay topic when we want to talk about friendship, care for each other, reaching for your dreams, and staying true to who you are. It is also the battle between good and evil and using magic just simply by staying kind and helping your friends.

Harry was born on July 31, 1980, in the family of James and Lily Potters. His father was an animagus (a person who can deliberately turn into an animal) from the ancient bloodline of wizards while his mother was a muggleborn witch, extremely gifted, especially in potions. All three of them were accepted into Hogwarts and sorted into Gryffindor House, which already tells something about the family; the decision-making magic of the Sorting Hat depends on student’s dominant personality traits and, for Gryffindor, these have to be bravery and pride. Harry himself barely knew his parents (they died when the baby Harry was only one year old), but remembered them with deep respect and love. Every time someone said that he looked like his father, Harry felt proud. Of course, anyone who spoke of his parents unflatteringly aroused the boy’s cordial dislike. Naturally, professor of magic potions Severus Snape gave derisive comments about James which did not add warmth to their relationship. Harry’s feelings towards his father became slightly colder when he saw in the Pool of Memory – a magic device that allows re-experiencing one’s memories – recollection of James and his best friend Sirius attacking unarmed Snape. He did not cease to love his father after that, but his attitude towards him lost his childlike eagerness.

Arguably, Harry’s appearance is quite a metaphor for his personality and his story. He has a puny physique, a short stature, dark hair (similar to his father’s), and bright green almond-shaped eyes (like his mother Lily had). This hints a reader to his strong connection to his family heritage that he believes to be lost and to the type of the hero he is; he is the one who is destined to save others, although does not seem to be built for that. Being a well-developed character, Harry Potter also has many recognizable special signs. Firstly, he wears round glasses and has a recognizable scar in the form of lightning on the forehead. He also has a scar on the left hand in the form of the words ‘I must not tell lies’, obtained after illegal detentions executed by professor Dolores Umbridge. Lastly, he has two more marks: an oval scar on the breast left by the Horcrux medallion (a special magic relic which contained the part of Voldemort’s soul that could let him resurrect in case he died), and a snake bite scar on his hand left by Voldemort’s serpent Nagini in the house of Bathilda Bagshot’s, author of History of Magic.

Harry grew up in a heavy emotional environment but this did not affect his personality in a negative way. The difficult life with the Dursleys, his only living relatives, has formed in him a sort of distrust; yet, he overcomes it after his first year in the school of wizardry. When Hagrid, Hogwarts’ gamekeeper, appears in his life, the boy doubts reality of what is happening until the last. During the first year in Hogwarts, where Harry finally feels like a full-fledged person, the main features of his character reveal themselves, both positive and negative. In addition to kindness and courage, Harry is endowed with such qualities as mercy, compassion, and the ability to self-sacrifice. Harry is a good friend and companion, he does not like to lie, and always tries to help those who need it. Along with this, Harry knows how to raise his voice against injustice, which is due to the hardness of his personality. At the same time, he is quite rebellious and sometimes show certain disrespect towards the rules. Harry often feels tormented by contradictions because of him being the unintended Horcrux of Voldemort (although he does not know it). Nonetheless, his light side always prevails. After the loss of his godfather Sirius Black, Harry acquires a grim determination of revenge.

To continue, Potter never attacks first; on the contrary, he himself often has to reflect attacks. Harry is a leader by nature, and if he has to lead anything (to be captain of the Quidditch sport team or the leader of the Dumbledore Army defense classes), he does it pretty well. Harry never boasts of his fame; moreover, his fame annoys him. He is not always sociable, and despite the fact that he has to contact with a large number of people, he manages to become close only with a few. One might say that Harry’s shortcomings include secrecy that comes from a desire to protect those around him; he often believes that he is better to act alone to protect his loved ones. He rarely shares his feelings and experiences, even with those few close friends. These difficulties with trust and being open tend to reveal themselves even in his adult life: from the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child theatre play we know that Harry has a hard time building relationship with his son Albus; still, he finds a way to become a decent parent.

To conclude, Harry cannot ignore his own emotions and rely only on facts like his father’s friend Remus Lupine does, he is not able to grasp details like his friend Hermione Granger, and he may sometimes fail to treat everything with humor like his best mate Ron or Weasley twins. However, he is able to love people deeply and strongly and intuitively foresee something that cannot be explained in words. His personality proves to be his greatest advantage in the war against the Dark Lord and the quest of destroying his Horcruxes.

Harry James Potter  is a fictional character and the titular protagonist in J.K. Rowling’s series of eponymous novels. The majority of the books’ plot covers seven years in the life of the orphan Harry, who, on his eleventh birthday, learns he is a wizard. Thus, he attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to practice magic under the guidance of the kindly headmaster Albus Dumbledore and other school professors along with his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Harry also discovers that he is already famous throughout the novel’s magical community, and that his fate is tied with that of Lord Voldemort – the internationally feared Dark Wizard and murderer of his parents, Lily and James. The film and book series revolve around Harry’s struggle to adapt to the wizarding world and defeat Voldemort. Harry is considered a fictional icon and has been described by many critics, readers, and audiences as one of the greatest literary and film characters of all time.

Harry Potter is one of my favourite movie. This movie becoming my favourite since it has been held on theatre eight years ago. In my opinion, the story is totally awesome. Based on the best seller novel by JK.Rowling, this movie becomes real. I mean that the story is fiction, but it looks real when we see the movie.

This movie story tells about Harry Potter, he is a wizard child since he was a baby, but his parents died by the hand of The Dark wizard,Voldemort. So, he had to struggled on his whole life. When he turned to a young boy, Hogwart school of wizard and wizardry sent him a message that he is a student of that school. In there, he learned everything about magic, and also he found his true friendship, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. They always helped Harry Potter in everything, whether is right or wrong. They do this all together, happiness or sorrow. Harry Potter also learned how to love his parents, friends, teachers, and everything.

When Voldemort comes to kill Harry Potter, Harry against hard to be win. His bestfriend helped him until they comes to chaotic, but they still hold out. With his witchcraft power, his friends help, and their corageous, voldemort got lost.

From the story, i learn something about love, friendship, against everything bad, with our courageous and our heart and soul. That’s why this movie becoming my favourite ever, because the story is touching, even it’s just a fiction story. But it doesn’t mind, because we get everything in this movie, the great adventure, and the philosophy of this movie, definitely Harry Potter is my favourite.

I can’t stop watching  Harry Potter . This isn’t a new phenomenon. Ever since I caught up to  J.K. Rowling ’s brilliant book series (far too late, I might add), immersing myself into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter courtesy of the eight-film franchise has been a frequent staple of my viewing habits. But recently, throwing on  Harry Potter  has become something of a self-care act, and it’s only as I’ve gotten older that I’ve realized why it resonates so deeply.

On the surface, the  Harry Potter  films are just incredibly well-made. It’s one of my favorite film franchises because of how personal each director was able to make each movie.  Home Alone  filmmaker  Chris Columbus  was the perfect fit to launch the series as it revolved around incredibly young protagonists, capturing their sense of wonderment with a chlidlike awe. But as Harry Potter grew up, so did the franchise.  Alfonso Cuaron ’s  Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban  is my personal favorite of the film series, as it really digs deep into the angst, anxiety, and uncertainty of impending adolescence. The entire attitude of the movies changed with  Prisoner of Azkaban , but not permanently. Just like the mood swings of a 12-year-old boy, the franchise was able to vacillate wildly through different tones and identities.  Mike Newell  brought an unmistakably British sensibility to the epic  Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire , while director  David Yates  proved to be a bit of a chameleon as he injected an explicitly political theme into  Order of the Phoenix , crafted a straight-up romcom with  Half-Blood Prince , made a road movie with  Deathly Hallows – Part 1 , and brought the franchise to a somber, operatic close with the insanely dark  Deathly Hallows – Part 2 .

Few franchises have the versatility and diversity of tone of  Harry Potter , as the producers and screenwriter  Steve Kloves  (who wrote all but one of the films) embraced the idea of Harry Potter growing up rather than trying to make the franchise stick to the same formula time and again. It owes a huge debt to Rowling’s source material, obviously, but the true brilliance came in the decision while making  Prisoner of Azkaban  to focus the story on Harry specifically. Trying to encompass  all  of each book was impossible, so restricting the story’s POV to Harry helped streamline the storytelling while allowing the supporting characters to still shine in other ways.

But just because a film is great doesn’t necessarily mean it’s comforting. Why, when HBO Max first launched, did I first put on  Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone ? Why am I drawn to  Potter  marathons on SYFY and USA like a bug to a light, despite the fact that I own all of these movies on Blu-ray? For one, there’s the idea that this is a long,  long  story, so jumping into  Chamber of Secrets  or  Prisoner of Azkaban  gives one the sense that hey, Harry’s whole life is ahead of him! There’s so much story left! Time passes quickly, but in  Harry Potter , you can go back to the beginning again and relive this epic, emotional journey as often as you like. Not unlike re-reading one of your favorite books or bingeing  The Office  for the 17th time.

The world building goes part and parcel with this. Production designer  Stuart Craig  topped himself film after film by building out the world of  Harry Potter  as this tangible place. You can almost smell the butterbeer when Harry ( Daniel   Radcliffe ), Ron ( Rupert Grint ) and Hermione ( Emma Watson ) visit Hogsmeade. You can nearly feel the breeze on your cheek as the characters walk to Hagrid’s hut. Again, the sense of immersion is incredible, and especially when times are tough, escaping into a fantasy world—one in which magic is very, very real—sounds ideal.

But there’s something else. A deeper draw that keeps pulling me back to  Harry Potter  time and again. Ultimately, this is a story about a group of kids who come to realize that no one is going to help them. Adults disappoint, over and over again.  Daniel Radcliffe ’s titular character is orphaned as a child, of course, and his aunt and uncle are literally abusive. He’s forced to live in a cupboard. But even once Harry arrives at Hogwarts, despite the fact that some of the teachers are kind and Dumbledore ( Michael Gambon ) shows a particular compassion for Harry, it’s often that he, Hermione, and Ron are left to save the day all by themselves.

Dumbledore is a particularly fascinating kind of disappointment. He’s peculiar to be sure, but through the first good chunk of story, you trust that he always knows what’s best, that he’s always got Harry’s best interest at heart. But when we get to  Deathly Hallows  and learn that Dumbledore always knew that Harry was a horcrux and thus would have to die in order to defeat Voldemort ( Ralph   Fiennes ), we start to question Dumbledore’s decisions along the way. Rowling’s father-figure character to Harry is complex and imperfect. And sometimes, quite frankly, Dumbledore is a dick. He makes the wrong call. Whether it’s hubris or whether he always had good intentions is kind of up to you. Dumbledore isn’t a bad guy, and ultimately he’s a significant mentor to Harry, but he’s not infallible. He had secrets of his own, information he could have shared that would have helped Harry, Ron and Hermione in their quest, and he chose to continually play things close to the vest.

We grow up trusting that adults always have our best interest at heart, and that they have all the answers. They  must  have it all figured out, right? They’ll always be there to protect me. But as you get older, you realize more and more that everyone is just doing the best they can, and some are only looking out for themselves consequences be damned. And when it comes to raising, teaching, and mentoring children, falling short can have the most dire of consequences. What Harry and his fellow Hogwarts students realize as  Harry Potter  wears on is that no one is coming to save them. Even their teachers, despite their best efforts, can’t fix everything. The Order of the Phoenix is but a small group of brave adults squaring off against an entire army of sorts. As Voldemort’s fascist regime takes hold and invokes fear and terror, the adults who are supposed to be in charge of fending off such attacks either run for cover or bow to Voldemort. They acquiesce to He Who Shall Not Be Named’s demands and bigoted policies, harming thousands of innocents in the process.

Adults disappoint.

In the end, who saves Hogwarts? The kids. Yes a number of good-hearted teachers come to their aid, but it’s the kids who plot, plan, strategize, and mobilize. They realize, as they enter young adulthood, that they can no longer wait around for others to do the right thing. They’re gonna have to do it themselves, even if it means self-sacrifice. And that’s damn inspiring.

The world is a scary place right now. Those in positions of leadership who should be looking out for the good of humanity are making decisions motivated by fear at best and cruelty at worst. Learning that adults are not, by default, kind and smart is a tough lesson that every person must come to understand at some point. Even tougher still, the notion that many adults in positions of power abuse that power to keep their boot on the necks of the disadvantaged.

Adults disappoint. But kids don’t.

Talk about your favorite film harry potter

Seeing images of teens and young adults fighting bravely for justice, for equality, and for the betterment of others in the face of oppression and terror is genuinely inspiring. It offers a semblance of hope that maybe things won’t always be terrible. Those kids will one day be adults, and perhaps those adults can enact true, significant change.

What is Harry Potter about?

Harry Potter is a beloved book series written by the British author J. K. Rowling. The story follows the life and adventures of Harry Potter, an orphan boy who discovers on his eleventh birthday that he is a wizard. The series takes place in a magical world where wizards and witches exist alongside muggles (non-magical people). Throughout the seven books, readers are transported to this enchanting world filled with spells, potions, mythical creatures and fantastical places such as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As Harry learns more about his past and himself he faces many challenges, including defeating dark wizards like Lord Voldemort. Alongside his best friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, Harry must use all of his powers to overcome obstacles while discovering what true friendship means along the way. From Harry himself to Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore and even minor characters like Luna Lovegood or Neville Longbottom – each character has their own unique personality traits and quirks that make them feel like real people. Thirdly, the themes explored in the series are universal and timeless. Friendship, loyalty, and courage – are all values that we can relate to no matter what age we are or where we come from. Lastly (but certainly not least!), there’s just something truly special about the way this story makes me feel every time I read it or watch one of the movies. There’s an undeniable magic to it all that fills me with joy and wonderment every time I dive back into this beloved world of wizards and witches. My love for Harry Potter runs deep – there isn’t a single thing about this series that doesn’t completely captivate me!

The Characters of the Harry Potter Series

The Characters of the Harry Potter Series edumantra.net

The characters of the Harry Potter series are some of the most memorable and beloved in all of literature. From the brave and determined Harry himself, to Hermione’s sharp intelligence, each character brings something unique to the story. Firstly, there’s Ron Weasley, who is loyal and always willing to stand up for what he believes in. His friendship with Harry is one of the driving forces behind their many adventures. Then there’s Neville Longbottom, who starts off as a timid young wizard but grows into a courageous fighter over time. His journey from underdog to hero serves as an inspiration for readers everywhere. Of course, we can’t forget about Severus Snape – arguably one of the most complex characters in the entire series. Despite his prickly demeanour and questionable actions at times, it becomes clear that he has been working towards a greater good all along. He serves as both a physical danger throughout much of the series and an embodiment of evil itself. Each character in this beloved book series adds depth and meaning to J. K Rowling’s magical world.

My Favorite Book – Harry Potter (Essay Sample)

My favorite book – harry potter.

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series remains one of the most read and celebrated pieces of literature. The Harry Potter books highlight the idea of wizarding, painting the picture of the world so incredible that the reader gets immersed in the writer’s description of an almost utopian world. While books in the entire Potter series are my best, one specific book “The Goblet of Fire” is particularly special to me; it is my favorite.

“The Goblet of Fire” caught my attention the moment I read the first few sentences. Although I had read most of the earlier releases in the Potter series, none of them was as tantalizing and articulate as “The Goblet of Fire.” The concept of a wizarding world larger than Hogwarts is brought to light in the previous three books but in “Goblet of Fire,” the idea of a larger wizarding world is emphasized and brought to reality. “Goblet of Fire” is a book that marks a transition from the previous releases, as it is written from a relatively more mature perspective. In the book, Rowling gives a vivid description of two more wizarding schools which visit Hogwarts in preparation for the so-called “Tri-Wizard Tournament.”

The idea of the Quidditch World Cup in the first chapters of the book is so vividly described that the reader begins to imagine an alluring Tri-Wizard Tournament, surrounded by exceptionally competent wizards. The book presents scenes where the young Harry is forced into deadly situations reserved for older wizards during the tournament. The character Voldemort is transformed from an imaginary person into a real-world physical being. In the previous books of the series, the character was treated as an idea that threatens the world. Making the character a real, tangible person sets the book and its characters’ experiences on a whole new level.

Throughout the author’s narrations, “Goblet of Fire” retains an adventurous and youthful approach evident in the previous books in the series. The characters in the book are fully developed, and their descriptions are filled with action and adventure. For instance, the Hogwarts children interact effectively with other wizarding students. The author vividly describes the events at the tournament as children work in collaboration socializing during the Christmas Ball.

For someone who loves seeing the magical world through the eyes of Harry, the book is irresistible. Harry often treats the reader to such spectacles as flying in a magical car and finding parents. Some scenes such as the awkward school dance during the tournament, combined with the various tricks employed by magicians present growing up as a fun-filled yet dangerous period in the life of various characters. Readers are treated to the thrill of various fantasies that only the magical world can offer. The children in the play literally transform into adults and their youthful naivety is so well captured in J.W. Rowling’s descriptions with such powerful curses as Avada Kedavra which supposedly kills the enemies instantly.

In conclusion, the Harry Potter series is a single story told through various pieces, each setting up a platform for subsequent books in the series. Humans are so lost in the real world full of challenges and negative experiences that a chance to go to a magical utopia-like trip greatly excites me. “The Globe of Fire” and other Harry Potter series books grant me that opportunity, making it my favorite book.

Where To Watch The Harry Potter Movies

Heal Thyself By astolat

A story of redemption for draco malfoy.

Although originally established as an arrogant, condescending, and dark rival, Draco Malfoy evolved to become one of the series' most beloved characters. He could be very easy to hate at times, but there was also a sense of feeling sorry for him which inspired a following of fans who wanted to see him go down a better path. Draco is regularly the star of Harry Potter fanfiction too, with many stories focusing on redeeming his character and giving him a happier ending , such as Heal Thyself by astolat. Redditor Darkest_Phoenix07 shared its highlights:

"I like the development on Draco's career and his character. He goes from being bitter and self-pitying to getting his life on track. I like the take on healing magic. It really expands moderately on dark magic effects ... very good world-building skills."

The story also focuses on a relationship between Draco and Harry which, despite them constantly being at odds in the books and movies is a popular relationship in many corners of the Harry Potter fan community.

10 Heartbreaking Harry Potter Theories That Change How You See The Movies

Fate is a four-letter word by philo, a look at harry potter's life after the official story.

While some Harry Potter fanfiction re-write current canon, others expand Rowling's original plot by taking place in the future, as in Fate Is A Four Letter Word . The story chronicles a grown Harry's failed attempt to live a normal life and the new adventures that await when danger returns. The epilogue in the movies and books teased the adult lives of these beloved characters as they watched their children begin at Hogwarts. Imagining what else the future has in store for Harry is fun while also holding onto a hope that the story can continue in the official canon eventually. Redditor maryfamilyresearch shared:

"absolutely love this story because it has a very dense plot and manages to keep you on the edge of your seat for its whole 525k words. There is angst, yet lots of funny moments as well... Despite all the mystery and the intrigue, the story also manages to explore what it means to be a parent and fall in love... especially when people object to your choice of partner... So relatable in so many ways."

Blindness By AngelaStarCat

A reimagining of harry as "the boy who lived".

One of Harry's best qualities was his willingness to persevere, despite whatever pain and loss he was going through. He constantly keeps trying against all odds, and that determination is built upon further in Blindness , which changes the outcomes of Voldemort's attack on baby Harry . AngelaStarCat's tale is among the best Harry Potter fanfiction because it gets at the center of Harry as a hero and how, regardless of his powers, he has the heart and bravery to fight for what is right. Interestingly, the story was inspired by the author's own experiences. Redditor Reichbane enjoyed the story's change in power dynamics, adding:

"[The story] focuses on the exploration of magic and science in a unique and fun way without Harry lording his power over people and monologuing about how cool and smart and strong he is."

Seventh Horcrux By Emerald Ashes

A comedic look at harry and voldemort's first meeting.

The best Harry Potter fanfictions are those that can be visited again and again. Seventh Horcrux , by Emerald Ashes, is one such piece of fanfic. The story takes a look at the first encounter between Voldemort and Harry which goes in an unexpected new direction. Although it's given a seemingly darker premise, the fic is known to be a comedic and bewildering one. Harry and Voldemort are an iconic hero and villain duo so it is a lot of fun playing with the idea of their relationship. Reddit user Electrical_Ad_8352 explained:

" Seventh Horcrux is a story about Voldemort possessing Harry as a baby and is genuinely one of the funniest pieces of fiction I've ever read. Harrymort is such a bizarre but compelling character and his warped worldview makes the most innocuous situations entertaining."

A Marauder's Plan By CatsAreCool

A sirius black solo adventure.

Sirius is undeniably one of the most beloved Marauders , and his character arc has been re-written by many Harry Potter fanfiction authors who preferred to see Harry's guardian which didn't have to end with his early death . He is one of the many supporting characters who would benefit from stepping into a more central role in his own story. A Marauder's Plan by CatsAreCool depicts Sirius doing his best to give Harry a better, more loving home after the events of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban . Redditor urlias describes it as a

"great story about Sirus not leaving England after being rescued from the tower. He puts on his Marauder's hat and figures out a way to make sure Harry is safe, even if it means taking over Magical Britain. A great story everyone should read,"

The Harry Potter Movie Changes Accidentally Made 1 Major Death Less Sad

Lady of the lake by colubrina, a romance between hermione and draco.

While Draco and Harry are one of the most popular couplings in Harry Potter fanfiction, many also like to imagine the possible relationship between Draco and Hermione . Their similar personalities and opposing views , along with Draco's learned hatred for Hermione, give the two the perfect dynamic for an enemies-to-lovers trope, which fanfictions like Lady of the Lake by Colubrina optimize. Redditor yeetbeanie described the story in high praise:

"[A] go-to comfort read. Hermione decides to take over the government and in a much more sane and manipulative manner than Voldemort. Draco helps her with her plot, and they eventually get married... the balance of the fic is amazing... the narrative is incredibly satisfying."

The Serpentine Subterfuge by murkybluematter

An alternate reality of the world of hogwarts.

One of the best things about Harry Potter fanfiction is the many ways it breaks through the canon and creates entirely new universes with loved characters, taking the details fans know and using them to create exciting new realities from which new stories can rise. The Serpentine Subterfuge , by murkybluematter, does precisely that.

The sequel to fanfiction The Pureblood Pretense focuses on an alternate version of the Wizarding World with a female character as its lead in the form of Harriet Potter . The story follows her tribulations as she continues to pose as a pureblood boy. Reddit user UsernamesAreRuthless states they were at first

"...I couldn't pull myself away. The lies that slowly grow more elaborate, Riddle as a blackmailing politician, Snape as a Potions Master who takes Harry under his wing... James, Lily, and Sirius are alive, and just like I imagined them. Immersing myself in the world of Potions has never been more wonderful."

The Last Enemy: The Howling Nights By CH_Darling

A marauders adventure with some beloved characters.

The Marauders are a popular topic for Harry Potter fiction, with many writers and it is not hard to see why. It is an exciting history of some of the universe's key characters that is only teased in the books and movies. Many Harry Potter fan stories take to expanding on their teenage adventures and developing their most popular ships, like Remus and Lupin. The Last Enemy: The Howling Nights by CH_Darling depicts the Marauders, along with Lily and Snape, navigating through their lives amidst the brewing war. Redditor TinyButMighty2 gave it a rave review:

"Best fanfic I’ve ever read. I won’t stop promoting it lol. It’s a Marauders era story, which there’s plenty of already, but this one is fantastically written, fills in lots of gaps in very good ways, is from multiple POVs (Snape, Lily, Sirius, Regulus, etc.), is incredibly close to canon, and adds so much more to the idea of blood politics."

The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy By speechwriter

A different path for draco malfoy.

Draco Malfoy was one of several Harry Potter characters that deserved a redemption arc, and The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy by speechwriter fulfills that by altering the canon events of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince . The story paints a world where Draco lowers his wand and joins Dumbledore and Harry's side, rather than staying with the Death Eaters and doing the Dark Lord's bidding. It also features a prominent Hermione and Draco romance. Reddit user itsasixthing had this to say about it:

"I’m not normally a fan of Draco/Hermione, but I really enjoyed this fic. I thought Draco’s redemption arc was well done, and Ron’s side-plot made me so happy and had one of the best Ron’s I’ve seen in fanfic." This one is a must-read for Dramione and Ron fans alike.

Malfoy's Missed Redemption: How Draco's Deleted Deathly Hallows Scene Would Have Ruined Harry Potter's Twist Ending

The augurey by la-matrona, a fulfillment of the popular harry-hermione ship.

The Harry and Hermione ship , fondly referred to as Harmony, is another regular coupling in Harry Potter fanfiction for those who want to see their non-canon romance played out. Though Hermione and Ron were the ultimate endgame in the canon story, and a couple that many fans love, there is still a significant portion of the fandom who would have preferred Harry and Hermione take on the friends-to-lovers arc. The Augurey grants fans that slow-burn build-up between the two, whilst also incorporating elements from Cursed Child in an exciting new way. Reddit user TheOriginalDv praised the story:

"...a Harmony story where the trio finds out about Delphini when they're at Grimmauld place during the hunt... the prologue is still one of my favorites ever... Also, it's got one of the best renditions of Molly Weasley I've read in fanfiction, her talk with Hermione after her break-up with Ron is still amazing, and burned into my mind forever."

Hi, my name is Potterhead and I absolutely love the Harry Potter series. In this essay, I will be discussing my favourite book in the series which is the Deathly Hallows. This is the seventh and final instalment in the series and it did not disappoint.

I really enjoyed the suspense and action in this book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The plot was very well thought out and executed. I loved how all the loose ends were tied up in this book. The characters in this book are also amazing. Harry, Ron and Hermione are all great protagonists. They are all brave and determined to defeat Voldemort.

I also really liked the new characters that were introduced in this book. Neville Longbottom is one of my favourite. He is a very courageous character and he stood up to Voldemort when no one else did.

The Harry Potter series is amazing and I think everyone should read it. It has everything that a great book should have. It is exciting, suspenseful, well-written and the characters are likable. It’s quite different from other books in the fantasy genre and I think that’s what makes it so special.

The Harry Potter series has been a huge success and has spawned many movies, merchandise and theme parks. It is one of the most popular book series of all time and has achieved critical and commercial success.

Overall, I think the Deathly Hallows is an excellent book and it is definitely my favourite in the Harry Potter series. I would highly recommend it to any Potterhead or anyone who loves a good story.

My Favorite Book Harry Potter Because:

Harry Potter is a magical world filled with adventure, friendship, and lessons that we can all relate to. From the very first chapter of “The Philosopher’s Stone” to the final pages of “The Deathly Hallows,” readers are transported into a world where anything is possible.

One of the main reasons why Harry Potter is my favorite book is because it explores themes such as love, loyalty, and the power of good versus evil. Throughout the series, we see characters face challenges that test their courage and morality. We witness Harry’s unwavering loyalty to his friends, Hermione’s determination to always do what is right, and Ron’s undying love for his family.

But it’s not just about the themes – it’s also about the characters. J.K. Rowling has created a diverse cast of characters who are flawed, relatable, and ultimately, lovable. From the brave trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione to complex and dynamic characters like Severus Snape and Draco Malfoy, every character brings something unique to the story.

Moreover, Harry Potter is more than just a book series – it’s a cultural phenomenon that has captivated millions of readers worldwide. It’s not just about the books, but also the movies, theme parks, merchandise, and fan communities that have sprung up around the series. This goes to show the impact and influence that Harry Potter has had on popular culture.

Finally, I love Harry Potter because it holds a special place in my heart. As a child, I grew up reading and re-reading the books countless times, eagerly anticipating each new release. The story of an ordinary boy who discovers he is destined for greatness resonated with me and inspired me to embrace my own uniqueness and potential.

My Favorite Character Harry Potter Essay:

Harry Potter, the boy who lived. A name that resonates with millions of readers and moviegoers around the world. He is a beloved character who has captured our hearts and imaginations for over two decades. Harry’s journey from being an orphaned baby to becoming one of the most powerful wizards in the wizarding world has been nothing short of magical.

Growing up, I was a huge fan of the Harry Potter books. I remember eagerly waiting for each new release and devouring them in one sitting. The first book, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” introduced us to Harry and his world of magic, friendship, and adventure. From then on, I was hooked.

One of the reasons why Harry is my favorite character is because he is relatable. Despite being a wizard, he goes through many struggles and challenges that we all face in our own lives. He deals with loss, loneliness, and self-doubt, but never gives up. Harry’s determination and bravery inspire us to face our own battles with courage.

Another aspect of Harry’s character that I admire is his loyalty towards his friends. From Ron and Hermione to Neville and Luna, Harry always stands by his friends and supports them no matter what. He teaches us the importance of friendship and shows that true friends are always there for each other, through thick and thin.

As the series progresses, we see Harry grow into a strong and responsible leader. He takes on the weight of the wizarding world on his shoulders and fights against the dark forces to protect his loved ones. Despite the immense pressure, Harry remains humble and never lets fame get to his head.

But beyond all the action and magic, what I love most about Harry is his big heart. He may have a tough exterior, but he has a soft spot for those in need. From freeing Dobby to standing up for the rights of house-elves, Harry shows us that true strength lies in kindness and compassion.

In conclusion, Harry Potter is not just a fictional character to me, but a symbol of courage, friendship, and love. He has taught me valuable lessons about life and continues to inspire me every day. I will forever be grateful to J.K. Rowling for creating such a timeless and unforgettable character.

Essay on Favorite Book Harry Potter:

“Hey there, book lovers! I’m sure many of you have a favorite book that you keep going back to, no matter how many times you’ve read it. And for me, that book is none other than the magical world of Harry Potter.

If you haven’t read the series yet, where have you been? Just kidding. But seriously, if you haven’t delved into the world of Hogwarts, wizards and magical creatures, you’re seriously missing out.

I remember being in middle school when I first started reading Harry Potter. And from the moment I picked up the first book, I was immediately hooked. The story was unlike anything I had ever read before – it had adventure, friendship, magic and so much more.

One of the things that drew me to the series was its relatability. Sure, I may not be a wizard or have magical powers, but I could see myself in Harry and his friends. They were just regular teenagers facing problems and challenges that we all face at some point in our lives.

But what truly made Harry Potter stand out for me was its underlying theme of love. Love was not just portrayed as a romantic notion, but also as a powerful force that could conquer even the darkest of evils. The bond between Harry and his friends, and the love for their families and for each other, is what ultimately helped them defeat Voldemort.

And let’s not forget the amazing world-building by J.K Rowling. The amount of detail she put into creating Hogwarts and its inhabitants was simply mind-blowing. I could picture every nook and cranny of the castle, and imagine myself roaming its halls alongside Harry, Ron and Hermione.

But beyond the fantastical elements, the series also touched upon important themes such as discrimination, bravery, sacrifice and standing up for what’s right. It taught readers to question authority and to never give up hope, even in the darkest of times.

Even after all these years, I still find myself returning to the world of Harry Potter. And each time I do, I discover something new and meaningful that makes me appreciate the series even more.

So if you haven’t given this series a chance yet, I highly recommend it. Trust me, you’ll be hooked from page one. And for those who have already delved into the world of Harry Potter, let’s raise our wands and say together: “Always.” Because that’s what this series will always be for me – a timeless classic that I will never get tired of reading.

Harry Potter star surprise favourite to replace Ralf Little on Death In Paradise

author image

RUPERT GRINT as Ron Weasley and DANIEL RADCLIFFE as Harry Potter INHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint is gearing up to trade Hogwarts for holiday horrors after emerging as the favourite to take over on Death in Paradise .

The daytime detective series, which first started back in 2011, has seen its leading role played on a rotational basis every few seasons over the last 13 years.

Ben Miller was the comedy-drama’s leading man from the beginning, before Kris Marshall stepped in – he was then replaced by Father Ted star Ardal O’Hanlon .

And most recently, Royle Family actor Ralf Little headed the series as DI Neville Parker before departing for pastures new, confirming his most recent appearance was his last .

Now the hunt is on for a new seaside sleuth, with several names tipped to join the BBC series, which is set to come back to our screens in early 2025.

So, who’s in the running?

Rupert Grint

Rupert Grint

Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint is currently the bookmakers favourite to succeed Ralf Little, with the last 48 hours apparently proving decisive – his odds have shortened significantly.

John Hill, a spokesperson from Coral, said: ‘Rupert Grint is proving very popular in our next Death In Paradise lead detective betting.

‘The actor’s odds have been slashed from 6-1 to 6-4, and he now tops the betting to replace Ralf Little.’

Ralf Little in Death In Paradise

The Essex actor, 35, played Ron Weasley in eight Harry Potter films between 2001 and 2011, and has experience with mystery thrillers and dark comedies.

In 2017 he starred in Sky series Sick Note as an insurance agent who realises people treat him better when he’s misdiagnosed with cancer.

And in 2018 he started in the BBC drama The ABC Murders, where he played police officer Inspector Crome in three episodes of the miniseries.

Simon Bird

The Inbetweeners star Simon Bird has also been talked up in recent weeks as a potential replacement for Ralf Little.

After appearing as Will McKenzie in the iconic sixth form comedy, and as Adam Goodman in Friday Night Dinner between 2011 and 2020, Simon has spent more time behind the camera in recent years.

But Coral still have him down as a hot favourite to become the new Detective Inspector, with his odds shortening to just 3-1 in the last month.

In 2019, he directed his first-ever feature film, The Days of Bagnold Summer, and he recently directed all six episodes of Such Brave Girls, a new comedy-drama from BBC Three.

Mathew Horne

BFI & Radio Times Television Festival 2019 - Day 3 - Green Room

Bookmaker Coral named Gavin and Stacey star Mathew Horne  as their favourite to take over from Ralf last week, with his odds of becoming the next detective recently shortening to just 6-4.

John Hill from Coral said: ‘Mathew Horne is the big mover in our betting to be the next lead detective on Death In Paradise. He’s been well-backed over the last 24 hours, which may suggest he now leads the race for the role.’

After making a name for himself in comedy series such as The Catherine Tate Show, Nathan Barley, and, of course, Gavin and Stacey, he later appeared on Bad Education.

Mathew actually appeared in an episode of Death in Paradise back in 2013, which was during the show’s second season. This was when Ben Miller played DI Richard Poole.

Diane Morgan

Cunk On Earth S2,18-10-2022,5,Philomena Cunk (DIANE MORGAN),Broke & Bones,Jonathan Browning

If Rupert Grint, Mathew Horne, and Simon Bird don’t join Death in Paradise, the BBC series could have its very first female lead – Diane Morgan is apparently in the frame according to bookmakers.

The Bolton actress, 48, is, of course, best known to audiences as everyone’s favourite historical documentarian Philomena Cunk – a character she brought to TV full-time after cameo appearances on Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe.

However, despite her career in comedy on TV, her dramatic acting chops are well tested, having starred in thriller series Utopia, comedy drama Motherland, and romantic drama film Me Before You.

Diane’s currently 5-1 to take over at Saint Marie, giving her better odds than the likes of Martin Clunes (currently 8-1) and even Miranda Hart (7-1).

Catch up with Death in Paradise on BBC iPlayer.

What to Know About ‘Unfrosted’ and the Real History of Pop-Tarts

In his directorial debut, Jerry Seinfeld tackles the history of the fruit-filled pastries … kind of. Here’s the real origin story, along with a bonus quiz.

  • Share full article

Jerry Seinfeld, in a blue suit, stands smiling at a lectern. Next to him, in front of a big red K, are five men standing at a table including a chef.

By Sarah Bahr

Sarah Bahr’s favorite Pop-Tart flavor is Frosted Wild Berry.

First, there was the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos biopic (complete with an Oscar-nominated song). Then came “ Tetris ”; “ Air ,” about Nike Air Jordan sneakers; “ BlackBerry ”; and “ Barbie .”

It is, in other words, a golden age for product-origin-story movies.

The latest is “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tarts Story,” a satirical history that Jerry Seinfeld has expanded from his stand-up act. The film, which he directed and stars in alongside Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant and Amy Schumer, arrives Friday on Netflix. Unlike its predecessors, it’s not really concerned with actual events. Here’s what to know about the true history of the Pop-Tart — and what the movie gets right and wrong.

But first, how did Kellogg’s and Post both end up with headquarters in Battle Creek, Mich.?

You would think ground zero in the Breakfast Wars of the 1960s might be somewhere most people could locate on a map. But Battle Creek, Mich., was home to the Battle Creek Sanitarium, known for its water and fresh air treatments, and managed by Will Keith Kellogg and his brother, John Harvey Kellogg. W.K. Kellogg developed a method of creating crunchy pieces of processed grain for his patients (read: Corn Flakes), and one of those patients, C.W. Post, would go on to start his own company in 1895 selling several foods that were veeeery similar to those at the sanitarium.

W.K. Kellogg noticed Post profiting from his recipes and established his own firm in 1906, the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company. Within three years, it was cranking out more than 100,000 boxes of Corn Flakes a day, and, thanks to the success of Kellogg, Post and many other cereal companies, Battle Creek became known as the Cereal City.

Who were the real Edsel Kellogg III and Marjorie Merriweather Post?

The bumbling chief executive of Kellogg’s, played by Gaffigan, is fictional (thank goodness). On the other hand, Marjorie Merriweather Post — the General Foods owner whom Schumer portrays as a turban-wearing caricature — was one of the first female chief executives and, for most of her life, considered the wealthiest woman in America. (Today she may be best known for building Mar-a-Lago, now Donald J. Trump’s base.)

Did Post really come up with a toaster-prepared breakfast pastry first?

Yes. In the 1960s, Post, then the biggest competitor to Kellogg’s, invented a process of partly dehydrating food and wrapping it in foil to keep it fresh; no refrigeration required. The process was initially used for dog food, but it also allowed fruit filling in, say, a toaster-prepared breakfast pastry to stay both moist and bacteria-free. (And yes, it was actually Post’s idea, not one ripped off from a Kellogg’s employee via a hidden vacuum cam.)

Was the Post product really called Country Squares?

Unfortunately, yes. The name was later changed to its current Toast’em Pop Ups , but is that really much better?

How did Country Squares and Pop-Tarts end up hitting shelves the same year?

Post jumped the gun and unveiled Country Squares to the press in February 1964, four months before they were ready to sell, allowing Kellogg’s time to frantically rustle up its own, much-better-named version.

Did Bob Cabana really create the Pop-Tart?

Nope, the “Unfrosted” flack (played by Seinfeld) is fictional. The man who helped create Pop-Tarts was a manager named William Post (yes, really), who died in February at 96.

What was an actual rejected name for the Pop-Tart?

The ones in the film — Fruit-Magoos, Heat ’Em Up and Eat ’Em Ups, Oblong Nibblers, Trat Pops — are made up. But the real rejected name — Fruit Scones — wasn’t much catchier. The final name, coined by a Kellogg’s executive, William LaMothe, was inspired by Pop Art, the contemporary cultural movement.

Were Pop-Tarts really an overnight hit?

Yes, but the first shipment to stores sold out in two weeks, not 60 seconds, as in “Unfrosted.” Kellogg’s apologized, in advertisements , but this only increased demand. (They were restocked before long.)

Were the first flavors really unfrosted?

Yes. The original flavors — all unfrosted — were Apple Currant Jelly, Strawberry, Blueberry and Brown Sugar-Cinnamon. The first frosted ones — Dutch Apple, Concord Grape, Raspberry and Brown Sugar-Cinnamon — didn’t hit the market until 1967. (William Post came up with the idea, disproving skeptics who believed the icing would melt in the toaster.) The next year, sprinkles were added to some of the frosted ones.

Did Kellogg’s really advertise Pop-Tarts without a mascot?

It did, though the decision didn’t set off a Hugh Grant-led mascot rebellion, as in “Unfrosted.” Kellogg’s rectified the omission in 1971, introducing Milton the Toaster . (The little guy didn’t make it out of the 1970s.)

Which of these flavors are real?

The past few decades have been a smorgasbord of Pop-Tart flavors, some very short-lived. Can you spot the four real flavors here?

Chocolate Peppermint

Froot Loops

Guava Mango

Harry Potter Special Edition: Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, Popcorn

Maple Bacon

Answer: Chocolate Peppermint, Froot Loops, Guava Mango and Maple Bacon Pop-Tarts have all been on shelves at some point. The Harry Potter Bertie Bott’s Popcorn and Twizzlers flavors remain the stuff of our fever dreams.

Daniel Radcliffe and 'Harry Potter' author J.K. Rowling

Daniel Radcliffe has been a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and is disappointed in J.K. Rowling ‘s anti-trans comments over the years.

In a new interview, Radcliffe shared how he feels about Rowling’s repeated shots at the trans community.

“It makes me really sad, ultimately,” he told The Atlantic , adding, “because I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic.”

BBC Apologizes After Reporting That “Derogatory Comments” About Trans People Could See J.K. Rowling Fall Foul Of New Hate Crime Law

“I’d worked with the Trevor Project for 12 years and it would have seemed like, I don’t know, immense cowardice to me to not say something,” Radcliffe told the publication about the reason he penned the essay. “I wanted to try and help people that had been negatively affected by the comments. And to say that if those are Jo’s views, then they are not the views of everybody associated with the Potter franchise.”

Earlier this month, Rowling replied to a comment on social media that said they were waiting for Radcliffe and Harry Potter co-star Emma Watson to give the author a public apology. The social media post came after the British government shared a report that made Rowling find validation in her anti-trans rhetoric.

Rowling wrote, “Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.”

The Atlantic asked Radcliffe for comment on that message, to which the actor replied, “I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people, and have no further comment than that.”

Radcliffe also replied to critics who said he was ungrateful for opposing Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, which inspired the film series in which he starred.
