Sharing assignments and notes with classmates

assignment work is halal or haram

what is the ruling for a student that refuses to share a difficult subject he knows and unable his fellow student to copy his assignment

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger. The ruling on the non-cooperation of this student with his fellow students in copying his assignments and sharing his knowledge of the subject differs according to the accompanying circumstances. If helping his colleagues in this regard entails cheating and violating the school regulations or laziness and neglect on part of the other students in taking notes or doing their assignments on time, then this student did well by refusing to share with them because cheating is a reprehensible sin. It incurs grave evils on the individual, community and the nation as a whole. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, forbade cheating in all matters. He, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: " He who cheats us is not one of us. " [Muslim] Another version of the Hadeeth also cited by Imaam Muslim reads: " He who cheats is not of me . " If students cheated on their assignments or exams, then what would be the point of doing them? Cheating makes the lazy unqualified student pass at the expense of the diligent qualified student. Indeed, this is plain injustice and it goes against the common good. The same applies if those students are too lazy and neglectful to take notes during class and then ask the diligent student to share his notes for them to copy them. He should not help them and share his notes with them so that they would exert greater effort in taking their own notes during class and pay greater attention to their studies. On the other hand, if sharing those assignments (and notes) with those students does not involve any cheating and it means merely helping them study this difficult subject and benefit from his better understanding of it, then he is advised to help his classmates. In fact, Islam strongly encourages the Muslim to help those in need of his help. Allaah Knows best.

Is Freelancing Halal?

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu waRahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

There is nothing wrong with working on a freelance basis in the fields you mentioned, such as graphic design, creative writing, research and development, or any other kind of creative, artistic or educational work.

" title="Advertise and Market to Muslims" target="_blank">Ads by Muslim Ad Network

Answering your question, the Fatwa Center at Islam Q & A , states:

Scope of what is permissible is wide

By the grace of Allah (may He be exalted) to all people, and to the Muslim ummah in particular, He has made what is permissible to them broad in scope, and has made permissibility the default. He has restricted the scope of what is prohibited to the narrowest possible, and has made it rare and exceptional. He, may He be glorified and exalted, says in His wise Book:

Can’t Find a Job Except in a Bank: What Should I Do?

{Allah wishes to make clear (what is lawful and what is unlawful) to you, and to show you the ways of those before you, and accept your repentance, and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise. Allah wishes to accept your repentance, but those who follow their lusts, wish that you (believers) should deviate tremendously away (from the Right Path). Allah wishes to lighten (the burden) for you; and man was created weak.} ( An-Nissa 4:25-27 )

{Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you.} ( Al-Baqarah 2:185 )

{Allah does not want to place you in difficulty, but He wants to purify you, and to complete His Favour to you that you may be thankful.}  ( Al-Maidah 5:6 ]

Imam Ash-Shatibi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“The basic principle with regard to interactions , transactions and customs is that they are permitted, unless there is evidence to the contrary.” ( Al-Mawafaqat , 1/440).

Freelance work in Islam

Hence there is nothing wrong with working on a freelance basis in the fields you mentioned, such as graphic design, creative writing, research and development, or any other kind of creative, artistic or educational work.

What matters is that you should have a purpose in your work, whether it is to help people and make life easier for them, or to promote the values of truth, guidance and justice among them, or to teach them and increase their awareness of important issues having to do with their religious or worldly affairs.

Leave of Absence from Government Job: Can I Do Other Work?

All of these are good and valid purposes that you can undertake in the freelance work that you mentioned and other kinds of work. You may rest assured that if you bear these meanings in mind, the outcome of your work cannot be anything but good, and you will find that what you produce will fall into that praiseworthy category, far removed from the few haram matters that may be involved in such work, such as designing prohibited images, stirring up sexual desire, contributing to the spread of vile practices, selling prohibited things, and so on.

Allah Almighty knows best.

Earning through doing class assignments and exams for people

Q: I have a question regarding one domain of modern day freelance work. People contact me through the freelancing website (where I have my profile made that mentions the subjects that I’m expert in) and ask me to do their class assignments and projects. Sometimes, they also require help on their tests and exams both online and inside the class. We decide a price with mutual consent and I get paid once the work is delivered.

Now I have a couple of questions:

1- Is this mode of earning permissible?

2- If not, then what about all the money that I have earned and spent on myself and my family till this time and this amount will turn out to be not so little as I’ve been working in this mode for last 2 years.

3- What about the profits and investments in the property and other traditional businesses that I have done using this money that I have earned from the above mentioned work mode?

4- What about the savings that I have in hand for the time being?

Bismillaah

A:  Yes, it is permissible.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Content Writing Is Halal Or Haram?

Aslam o alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh…. I have a question regarding content writing on different freelancing platforms…. the scenario is any client(any person, student teacher, website owner etc) give you a topic and you both make a deal about it. you have to write content about the topic and you will get paid for it and also you are giving copyrights of the content to client that after the completion and money transfer you are the sole owner of content and you can use it under your name.

Now some ulema say that this is haram as some student is getting his/her assignments done by you… this is cheating as you are helping them in cheating the system and cheating is Haram…

My question is how writing about an academic topic and earning from it is labeled as Haram??? ? and when you are selling copyrights of your content to the client, he/she will become owner of that content and can use it for any purpose….

Freelancing Halal or Haram in Islam? – Scholars Opinion

Freelancing

In freelancing, you have a great opportunity to work and earn with no limit. There is a variety of work nature that you can do remotely. You can earn more than some local jobs.

But the question is: Is freelancing halal or haram in Islam? or Is Freelance work permissible and legal? When you are working as a freelancer and you are a Muslim, you should know about the nature of the work which you are going to do. Before working as a freelancer, you have to clarify some rules about working as a freelancer in regard to Islam.

Freelancing is a contract-based profession where instead of being recruited by a company or an organization. A freelancer is self-employed and works according to his/her own will and interest from any place. There is no time limit or duration fixed for a freelancer. Freelancing is a project-based job.

In Islam, freelancing halal or haram depends on which kind of work you are offering. You have to know whether is it legal in Islamic Shareeha or not.

Nature of Freelancing Work

There are different types of freelancing work.

  • A seller on a platform like Fiverr, UpWork, etc.
  • Associated with an online company
  • Direct online clients

Table of Contents

Freelancing is like any other job one can do in a government or private company. It depends on which kind of work you are doing. Every freelance job is haram and illegal in Islam which is against the Islamic rule of Shareeha. So, Freelancing is halal and permissible when you follow the rules of earning and don’t deal with haram things.

For example, if you offer an online music lesson then it is against the Islamic Shareeha and it is totally haraam. If you work for an alcoholic brand, then it is haram. On the other hand, if you offer an online Quran learning class, then it is halaal and permissible.

What does the Quran Say?

“Eat and drink of that which Allah hath provided, and do not act corruptly, making mischief in the earth.” [Quran 2, 60]. It means there is no strict rule for earning but not corrupt.

“And there is not a beast in the earth but the sustenance thereof dependeth on Allah. He knoweth its habitation and its repository. All is in a clear Record.” [Quran 11, 6].

“A time will come upon the people when one will not care how one gains one’s money, legally or illegally.” [Sahih al-Bukhari 2059]. Keep in mind this hadith. Don’t adopt any profession that is illegal.

Follow Shareeha guidelines and adopt that profession in freelancing which is not against Islamic rules. It is totally freehand for earning money, but you have to adopt the correct method and legal halal things. Some haraam acts are mentioned above that you can’t adopt in any situation. You can’t adopt such haraam professions indirectly.

If you don’t go against the Islamic rules in freelancing work, then there is no wrong with freelancing.

Haraam Jobs in Islam

Earning a decent livelihood is a fundamental part of faith. So be careful when adopting any profession. Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The flesh and body that is raised on unlawful sustenance shall not enter Paradise. Hell is more deserving to the flesh that grows on one’s body out of unlawful sustenance”.

  • Any music and dance-related work
  • Any blasphemy content
  • Photo editing of females
  • For any nakedness of men or women
  • Making or Selling idols or statute
  • Working for a sect engages Interest(Riba)
  • Drugs-related jobs
  • For gambling
  • Any fraudulent service
  • Corruption involved
  • For any pork work
  • Any work for an alcoholic company or individual
  • And some trades of Crypto (not all)

What does the Quran say?

“Allah enlargeth livelihood for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will); and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of the world is but brief comfort as compared with the Hereafter.” [Quran 13, 26].

“And Allah hath favoured some of you above others in provision.” [Quran 16, 71].

“Lo! thy Lord enlargeth the provision for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will). Lo, He was ever Knower, Seer of His slaves.” [Quran 17, 30].

When Freelancing Is Not Allowed/Haraam?

Freelancing is haram in some situations.

  • When you are an employee of a company or institute, and you don’t complete your job work and do your freelance work
  • When you are working for a company that offers haraam services
  • When you can’t do the desired work, but you take the project
  • When you don’t fulfill the requirements of the client after the deal
  • When you can’t deliver at the time but promise to deliver within a fixed limit time

If you follow Shareeha guidelines, then freelancing and online income are halal and permitted in Islam.

Islamic Rules for Freelancing by Islamic Scholars

  • Take full requirements in the agreement
  • Don’t take that project which you can’t do
  • Complete the project at any price when you deal with it
  • Don’t cheat with work
  • Don’t work for haraam things
  • Always try to speak the truth

These rules are derived from Islamic Shareeha.

What equipment or Preparation do I need for the activity?

Scissors, possibly glue if sticking the pictures into two columns on sugar paper.

Describe the Resource:

This resource contains a powerpoint with notes for the teacher that should cover the whole lesson. It also contains activities within the slides.

Activity 1: Document contains pictures and sentences describing food; this should be cut up and handed to students to sort into the categories, halal and haram. Can be printed one each, or one between two or can be done as a whole class sorting activity.

Another way to do this which incorporates active learning, is the teacher can ask all the students to stand in a straight line in the middle of the class. When the teacher holds up a picture of a halal food they walk to the right and haram they walk to the left. Last one on each round must sit down.

Activity 2: Students must identify whether the product is halal or haram and should justify their answer by correctly identifying the ingredient that may make a product haram.

Is It Prohibited to Deliver Non-Halal Food?

Publication : 25-04-2024

I have read through many Fatwas on this site which can be very close to this scenario. But due to technological advisement it is very hard to draw line between halal or haram so I want you to give Fitwa specifically for this case. I live in New Zealand. Uber has started food delivery service here recently. It is good job as a delivery person because you can work on your own convenience. The restaurants/takeaways on the panel are Halal, non-Halal & vegetarian. It works on the following principles Switch on the app. on your mobile when you are ready/available. A pop-op message will appear on the screen that a meal order is xx min way (xx min is time to reach a restaurant from your current location). When you accept the request then you can see the Restaurant name and address. But once you accept the order, you can’t decline unless your car is broken or in an accident. Once you reach the restaurant and tell your order number, you will be given a sealed bag (you don’t know the contents). After receiving the bag, delivery address appears on the App. My question is that delivering the food for UberEAT is halal or not in the following circumstances You don’t know that from where you will pick the food unless you accept an order and you never get to know what is inside the packet (food/beverages/drinks).

Summary of answer

Praise be to Allah.

It is not permissible to work in delivering prohibited food such as that which contains pork or the meat of animals that were not slaughtered in the prescribed manner, or alcohol, because that comes under the heading of helping in sin. The wages earned from doing that are also prohibited. Allah, may He be Exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.” [Al-Ma’idah 5:2]

It says in Sharh Muntaha Al-Iradat (2/250):

“It is not valid to be hired to deliver “dead meat” (from an animal that was not slaughtered in the prescribed manner) and similar things, such as prohibited blood, to be eaten, for one who is not compelled to eat that; or to deliver alcohol to get drunk, for the reasons mentioned above, and the one who does that is not entitled to any wages for doing it, because prohibited service cannot be paid for.

But if the improperly-slaughtered meat is being delivered to someone who has no choice but to eat it, then it is valid.”

Shaykh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “If someone helps a man to disobey Allah, then he is sinning, because he is helping in sin and transgression. Hence the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) cursed alcohol, the one who presses (the grapes et cetera), the one for whom they are pressed, the one who carries it, the one to whom it is carried, the one who sells it, the one who buys it, the one who pours it, the one who drinks it, and the one consumes its price. Most of those mentioned, such as the one who presses it, the one who carries it and the one who pours it, are helping the drinker to drink it. Hence it is forbidden to sell weapons to those who will use them to fight in unlawful ways, such as fighting the Muslims or infighting among Muslims (fitnah).” (Majmu` Al-Fatawa, 22/141)

Since when doing the work mentioned it is not clear what type of food is being delivered, then this work is not permissible, because you are living in a non-Muslim country, where the people usually eat pork and drink alcohol.

For more details, please refer to the following answers: 49694 , 172 , 96739 , 40651 , 245688 , and 10339 .

And Allah knows best.
